It was set to be a freezing, cold week for most of the country, the below-zero temperatures and the unexpected snowfall resurrecting an old foe for South Africans: the dreaded stage six power cuts. For several weeks, Eskom had offered the country an unexpected reprieve from the higher stages of loadshedding, lulling many into the belief that the national utility finally had a grip on the power crisis. But this was short-lived. This week, as many braced themselves for a harsh July, Eskom announced continuous stage six loadshedding over the weekend, ushering in renewed levels of uncertainty.

ANC MUST FALL !!!!!!!!!!
By all means necessary.
Squirrel lies about ending load shedding, why would we believe him now?
I really wonder what Thambo, Biko and Mandela would say, if they saw the state of the country under ANC rule.
evil mandela started it with BEE and affirmative action, why do u think mandela created 9 provinces, he himself said its to creat jobs, mandela sat in his rocking chair and watched and never said a word
Given the current ANC threw Mandela out of Nasrec. I would say his opinion wouldn't matter to current leadership.
ANC problem or a South African problem?
@@yandisamlomo8518 I will say it's a ANC problem, mostly due to being uneducated
@@eisbeinGermany Eskom has been run by very educated individuals for decades now. What is your point?
ANC has almost completely destroyed SA . Vote DA, and it WILL change. ANC must VOETSEK
Argee!!! These clowns have stolen enough money - time for a change!
"It hasn't happened in 100 years, why would it happen now!" The very fact that the person who is in charge of preventing a disaster asked this question, is reason for concern. She clearly doesn't take into account that over the majority of the past 100 years, Eskom was voted the world's leading power generating company but it has been in a steady decline for the last 25 years. This is someone that is unable to do a realistic risk assessment based on real world facts and figures. It is the same as me not servicing my vehicle and when problems start coming with the engine, saying, "This car has not broken down in five years, why would it break down now!?" Perhaps it is because of this level of "expertise" that we are facing load-shedding in the first place.
"We have the best people in the world doing this load shedding". Unbelievable. How about not having it in the first place?! It should have never been allowed to happen. The blind leading the blind.
True... being world leaders in load shedding isn't exactly something to boast about.
It can happen at any time or any day. The ANC will simply not take responsibility for their actions. Western Cape needs to be prepared to turn the lights on when the ANC turns it off.
they will say its the citizens fault for using to much power,
Will be Van Riebecks fault.
@@samanthalandsberg3375 🤣🤣🤣🤣💯
I miss Derek Watts😭😭😭
And yet the KFC customers still vote ANC. 😂
an they will never stop voting anc
Lol
They actually don't vote. Many don't vote at all, don't know why you keep on thinking that most people vote for the ANC when they stopped voting.
Hmmmmmmm "KFC customers"
@@_theerealnono_7694 then the saying of "you get what you vote (or don't vote) for" is true.
So much hype about democracy, equality and representation and then people don't vote? I mean no wonder we're slipping into a dictatorship as people don't stand up for themselves.
It's a lie, they used to have the best people. Those experts are working overseas now.
In 2007 we had a sub station blow up in our area and we had no power for 14 days.... Its and experience that has stuck with me my entire life.
this year atleast 20 days non stop outage mostly 5 days at a time even right now!
No one is acknowledging the fact that their are many unqualified and unskilled individual's employed to maintain this Infrastructure.
Masa looked gorgeous in that red dress.
Focus…
😅
I I get that that lady is an expert, but it just doesn't seem likely that there's an equal chance of blackout at each level of load shedding. Because each additional level of load shedding represents more miss management and more problems with power generation ability. So clearly there is something to be worried about and the govt always wants to keep the population calm by telling us lies.
The country is gone,no turning back my Zimbabwean friends have told me way back around 2016 i said they were jealous, aphi amanga abo??
😢 my Zim friends have said the same. We are in trouble
Zimbabwe is in the problem they are in because of sanctions. We are no where near that on the basis of load shedding. What could bring us to that is on the basis of Political Instability e.g everytime ANC factions want to settle scores they sabotage the entire country and i promise you with the 2024 elections when ANC is not leading outright we will see the Mafias showing their real faces.
i told my father way back in 1988 that as soon as De klerk disbans ANC country will follow Rhodesia, i even said how can you vote yes ,think of your grandchilden but all he said was it will not happen, and i was right it did happen
Here’s another one…saying it’s not as bleak as they say (yet). You guys have a functional democracy, (and a responsible media).
This current stable is still reversible. But you guys need to use your democracy. We only wish we could 🥲
@@BatsiraiMusuka black people in SA will never stop voting for ANC,and there lies the problem
Just imagine the chaos and looting when the grid collapsed
When they say don't run, that's when you must definitely run, so what the president is saying makes sense...to his followers obviously. These are the same people who were "ready" for covid.
Question remains, why no such problems in years gone by?
ANC corruption...
it never happened before 1994 as white people ran Eskom
Power was only for select few and infrastructure was set that way. The incompetent ANC didn’t foresee and prepare to fix the issue
The country's population has grown significantly in the past 3 decades, there wasn't planning nor allowances made to grow the infrastructure accordingly to accommodate this. Then not to mention all the retrenchments, corruption, cable thefts, illegal connections. No way out of this hole until the rot is removed.
Fundamentally the problem is that the power plants are aging out right now we have 2 coal power plants entering decommissioning and a 3rd next year then 2 more the year after if you've ever traveled and saw those massive cooling towers those are the coal power plants so 30 of those towers will no longer generate power those are your stages of loadshedding all 6 of em currently plus probably 2 more in the near future if you add up their peek generation capacity.... then there's the fact that eskom has reduced staff by 2000 in 2021 with an additional 4000 through natural attrition like retirements that's experience lost basically they can be replaced but it will take time to get them on the same level.... then there's the problem of transmission the population is growing more buildings need electrification but the bulk power lines are limited in their carrying capacity so we can't just build new power plants if their aren't power lines to carry the additional load being generated multiple problems to be solved but once we get past the hurdles we set for the long run
The most painful thing is that the ANC will win next year😢.
This feels like an episode of "what if" from the RUclips channel names what if 😅
Should we not refurbish, manage and maintain infrastructure, build more power generating capacity, the likelihood of a national blackout is imminent
This is happening daily already.
What about doing a peace on poor people losing everything because no one can get a job most people dont care about electricity tokens if they cant afford a bread 🍞
🎯 absolutely.
Thank you for making this segment and explaining it so that everyone can understand.
Carte Blanche needs some educated people not story hungry journos, so silly 😢to think someone cutting a high voltage cable. It’s possible comrades. Stop reporting lies
Hey, when SHTF i see it as a blessing, because there is a possibility that history will be made, the day the population finally stood up, marched as one, and dragged the accused from their party house, their million dollar mansions and cemented their fate in the minds of all those who thought of nobody but themselves. But the accused of whom i speak, i of course mean, the ANC, being torn apart by the very people they once liberated. On that day, we would have regained our looted justice.
I think of purchasing a solar in case a power grid occurs but hares a funny question if ever it occurs will all the important people (Governers, politicians, millionaires, etc.) or it will only affect only us?
its been literal years...they have had no forethought since 1994- populations grow...

The black man is not fit to manage the continent. We have our own style and sense of thinking. We are are the end of the road .
Our government can only think short term. Short term to them is filling their pockets and long term to them is, oops we are investigating. They are just not cut out to run any country. 😡😡😡
@akoamoseetave3091 what a general statement 🤔
@@akoamoseetave3091you're right, one of the old government said something similar about the black man. Said he cannot build or manage, only use and destroy.
the blackout must happen, how else will they finance their new mansions and Ferrari hahahah
Renewable energy will NEVER supply the energy this country needs, We need NUCLEAR ENERGY.
Do you really want the ANC managing nuclear plants and also it is possible for renewables to make up a huge percentage of the power grid.
As for feasibility, there are lots of private companies using solar. It's definitely possible.
Only if under Ukrainian management and construction and Maintenance😂
An unpopular opinion.. A fact actually, worse mucler is green energy n cheaper to generate
Our distribution grid is not designed to support renewables as a major source of base load power. So major upgrades to our distribution infrastructure will have to take place, at OUR expense the consumer (not the European private companies supplying the variable power). This will also result in heavy ongoing costs per wh of power especially since it’ll be supplied by international private investor-prioritised companies. People advocating for solar and wind power opposed to nuclear and gas as our base load power citing the ANC will not be able to manage this, simply do not understand that we have been managing a nuclear power plant for decades safely and reliably, and also underestimating how complex managing a renewables-first power supply is, you’re being naive. Not to mention how comparing the cost of nuclear to that of solar and wind without including the cost of upgrading our distribution grid is just misinformed.
@@hypergraphicfirstly ANC doesn’t manage any power related organisation never have and never will, they manage government. And secondly Eskom has reliably and safely run Kuberg power station which happens to be a nuclear power station for decades without incident and in the process of extending it life span by another 2 decades. Your statement seems disingenuous and naive considering there are no industrial companies in the country that would be able to run of solar or wind, or any variable power sources. Unless you are referring to service based corporates which don’t necessarily underpin South Africa’s economy like our manufacturers and mineral processors…
I would love the grid to collapse so we are all forced to go back to God's natural state of living like our ancestors. We need change and this grid is a problem for us all.
Just a bit sensational don't you think?
I am an avid watcher of CB and you guys do great work, this is not your best effort.
Let's not start dabbling in speculation shall we,.
CB, you are better than this.
The only lot that wanted to go on camera were the aspiring autonomus state of Western Cape.
Talk in the USA of electrical and internet blackout , talk of internet blackout and cyber attacks in EU and now SA with electrical blackout due to grid failure.… Seems to me something nefarious is coming and to implement it… there needs to be a major global communication disruption to prevent the populous from stopping it.
Love that someone understands its a global phenomenon. We are at the brink of a global ecomonic collapse and all countrues are facing the same challenges with leadership and transparency and accountability is non-existent
why are there still power cuts? is ESKOM ever going to sort their "troubles" out? it is affecting the entire country!
also, why is loadshedding a thing. every other country is able to keep the lights on why not SA? makes no sense if the power stations are kept maintained!!
We dont need loadshedding we need a new government
Agreed it's irresponsible prompting panic like this Carte Blanche
Off topic, if I wanted to get someone special to me to appear on Carte Blanch what will it take ? Like im willing to even work for it or whatever it takes
Pity the brains have predominately left SA as we observe.

Can someone explain to me why Mark Swilling is an energy expert when he is neither a qualified engineer nor has he operated or been employed in a power supply organisation? My mind is genuinely boggled by how media houses all call him for expert opinion and we gullibly take his word as gospel and ignore REAL engineers and individuals who have actually worked in Eskom and other power supply entities in the power value chain, who beg to differ with his dogmatic advocacy for solar and wind renewable energy agenda.
Are there any qualified Engineers in Eskom ,The two new power stations that the government /ANC Put into action ,I do not believe that they are in functioning order .I may wrong🤔
@@CA-ul6qb you are correct, Medupi and Kusile, generating at well below their intended capacity due to construction defects. I agree that if those projects were left to engineers they’d have been done right but politicians interfered. However on your more facetious quip, I’d argue the reason we have any lights at all is because Eskom has engineers, albeit not completely in control, hence the disruptions in delivery. Mark Swilling on the other hand most certainly does not add any value to this set up in any way whatsoever, why does he get so much airtime?
