I just hope that our other coaches aren't jealous of the natural coolness Mike Shula has. He was put in a horrible spot by Alabama 20 years ago. He erhically did the best job a coach could have done. Back then ethically winning was a little bit of an impossibility. Still today he carries a swag about him that is not promoted by him but somehow transcends from him. I believe the kids are absolutely going to gravitate to him.
As soon as we heard about Loggains leaving, I saw all these sites and channels speculating on who should be hired and my first comment was "What about Mike Shula?" Shula is not a sexy hire per se, and his HC time at Bama was awful, but the Shula name has a lot of cache in my mind because as a Dolphins fan, Don Shula was the man. In the end I think the hire really is about LaNorris and also Beamer's love of continuity. When USC beat Clemson I saw the behind the scenes with Dowell Loggains literally running into the tunnel with his arm around Seller's shoulders almost like a father figure. I think Shula will have to fill that role now and Sellers has mentioned him in pressers before as one of the coaches he consults with most. As for the offense, I think you'll see even greater involvement from "Run Game Coordinator" Shawn Elliot, now that Loggains is gone. The only question left is, can Shula ever get Dan Marino to come up from Florida to talk with LaNorris and the team one day ;)
The reason why people didn't wanted Shula is because they have a possible Heisman candidate with Sellers and they wanted to dream above the Independence bowl. Now, both are in jeopardy.
Exactly and one being OC means the other is free to still work (Elliott) OLine and TEs or QBs and Recievers (Shula). Yes we have Lonnie at O line coach and that’s great but couple that with Elliott. I know we have a great QB coach in Sean Ryan but couple that with Shula!!!!
I think Elliot will be even more involved now. In his last presser before Clemson Loggains repeatedly mentioned Lonnie Teasley and how hard he worked and how much time they spent together in the film room and never once mentioned Shawn Elliot. Maybe there was nothing to it, but it almost seemed like there might have been some tension there (or maybe Loggains was just thinking about Teasley coming over as his O-line coach?) Anyway, I think Elliot will be more involved. I think it went to Shula primarily to retain someone close to LaNorris.
Pretty cool that you are a Bills fan too. I love th3 Gamecocks and the Bills. I am satisfied with the hire of Shula, though I thought Shawn Elliot would have been my first choice.
I see you love being 5-7 or having a peak of reaching the Independence bowl. I know that you are a South Carolina fan but it is good to dream above the Independence bowl for once. You have a possible Heisman candidate.
@janictealbert4010 thats basically what he had to do that last past 6 games....Sellars literally had to put the team on hid back and play backyard football in order for them to win. Against great defenses with great defensive coordinators, a QB will have a very tough time being successful
Carolina needs to replace what they lost or lack at linebacker, DT, DE, WR, FS/SS, RB/FB. And honestly I would LIVE to see some kid come out as a FB that has that Mike Alstott energy and some linebackers with the Deebo/Ray Lewis mentality.
Seems to me like Coach had Shula on the Staff just for the purpose of Taking Over when DeLo moved on… With the Chemistry Coach Shula and Sellers already Have i have to Think this was a Good Hire 💯🔥👍 Spurs Up☝️ Go Gamecocks!!! 🏈🏆✅
I know you don't know better but most of that had nothing to do with Shuler but Cam ability to create plays .Just like Loggins being one of the worst play callers in college football but now got hired as a head coach. It was due to Sellers creativity.
I'm a subscriber, but honestly have you looked at the wr class coming in? Carolina needs to reload the secondary & interior d D-line. Sellers will put points up, its abt stopping mofos from scoring.
Love your content. Just a point because I’m a stickler for names…it’s basically all we’re guaranteed on this planet. Mazeo is pronounced “MAZE-ee-oh” not “muh-ZAY-oh”
I am pleased with the hire - as you said continuity matters. Honestly, I thought Loggains was ok - really good occasionally, really pedestrian a lot, but in general, just ok. I firmly believe that Lanorris made Dowell look really good rather than vice versa. Going forward to next year, I think the offense needs to continue to run the ball well - which should happen with Addaway and Howell returning and assuming some improvement with a fairly young O Line. BUT - I think the passing game needs to get more aggressive, both downfield and in the mid range with crossers, slants, etc. Sellers has the skill and arm to do both on an elite level and that needs to be emphasized because this offense CAN be really explosive, but we have to have a solid run game to support that with play action, etc. Sean Elliot should be able to help that even more next year. Shula has a lot of experience - I want to see that experience create some magic because the potential is there to be really, really good with Sellers at QB and the developing and incoming WR talent.
Sellers needs to get out now! Your chance has just dwindle for success and possibly any Heisman hope along with it. These boys only think about their country club friends. You just got one of the worst play callers in college hired but going through another one might be too much to overcome.
@uscphan4life thats the whole point...Shula has been helping with the play calling and YET Sellars TALENT is the reason for SCs 6-0 win streak. It wasn't schemes, concepts, or play calling. Sellars needs an young, creative, innovative play caller thats more relatable to today's game...NOT an OC from the 30s
@@hebrewmuller3035you couple him with Shawn Elliott. You’ll be able to pass it and run it when ever and where ever you want. Elliott shouldn’t be just a TE coach. He should at least be watchingnover OLine and assisting with everything offense, Shula should be with QBs and working with them and keeping them like a buttered up spin top in the pocket. This Shula x Ellliott combo is going to be dangerous, Loggains Shula Elliott was nasty. Oh don’t forget oh Lonnie Teasley is a fantastic coach at OLine so that frees Elliott up to work with Harbor and all the receiving guys in the line like he did last year.
Did this Podcaster say he wasn't worried about an OC's scheme?😮 That mindset makes you the Dowell Loggins of podcasting. Without schemes, there is no offensive identity or sound developmental philosophy for your players- especially the QB. Like Dowell, you're basically calling plays & allowing your talent to bail your play calling out. That ain't sustainable at any level, other than peewee.
Sellers legs says otherwise. Backyard bull shit ball seems to work with the erratic nature of the Gamecocks!! They play like a Gamecock lives, hard fast and split second decisions that change everything. You can put any Scheme to that and make it win CFPs. Loggains almost did that this year.
Stumbled across this podcast about 2 weeks ago. Really well done and well informed. Great show
Great decision on Beamer's part. Continue the roll!

Mike Shula comes from a Great Blood Line. It will be Great For Carolina. 👍 SPURS UP.
Independence bowl just became the goal for that school, unless Sellers ignore every play called and calls his on.

Beamer took one call on the OC hire. From LaNorris. Said “what you wanna do Superman?”
“Let’s roll with Shula”
“Done”
I hope Mike shula can be our guy.
He Will Help Carolina. Go Gamecocks. Keep Rolling.
Is Atkins related to Nate Atkins? Nate was a TE in 2022 for SC and is now in the NFL.
don't think so but they bear a strong resemblance! think Nate's last name is spelled with a D

This is dumb! He was terrible with the Panthers! He has zero creativity and imagination!
No prostyle minded OCs has creativity in play calling...they depend solely on the talent of the players especially the WRs
Stop with this outdated pro style offense smh
