This is a superb performance. It’s no surprise that the Leonkoro Quartet won not only First Prize but also the prize for the best performance of a Haydn quartet at the Wigmore Hall last week. I was at the final, where they were the first of the three finalists to play. After their magnificent performance of Beethoven’s third Razumovsky Quartet, I turned to my neighbour and said “Well, if I were on the jury, I would suggest that we tell the other two finalists that they can go home now and get an early night 🤣….”.
Marvelous acoustics and interior! Their play is nicely balanced considering the cycle as a whole. But for me the interpretation is a bit too rushed, so many tasty details are gone. I prefer approach which contains more variety of articulation inside the melody and texture. However the sound is pure and very attractive.
Musically, glorious, if perhaps sometimes a little fast... But you need to change the video angles - at least three cameras, with close-ups of performers, features of the environment, instruments etc, to accomplish an outstanding video. It is relatively easy to set up and edit.

Fair comment. But I would happily sacrifice nuance for energy with this piece.
