    The 2023 C8 Corvette Z06 breaks all the rules you thought you know.
    1. What's faster, a car with more or less power?
    2. What's more powerful, a large supercharged engine, or a smaller naturally aspirated engine?
    3. What has a wider, flatter torque curve: a supercharged engine, or a high revving naturally aspirated engine?
    4. What uses less fuel, a car that makes more, or less power?
    Compared to the C7 Z06, the C8 Z06 is an improvement in every way, and yet on paper you might not see why. It's a stunning feat of engineering, and a masterclass in supercar design. What an absolute joy to drive!

      yup. but i must say i always loved the whole "front engine car taunting the exotics" vibe corvettes had. imagine being beat in your high tech mid engine car by some front engined pushrod v8 neanderthal with a goddamn LEAF SPRING IN THE BACK and an interior straight out of an 80s kia. i know all that stuff was engineered too, no question, but it was always funny to me.

    • @Hubris2
      @Hubris2 Год назад +31

      It's an amazing price for what it is, up there in performance with the exotics no argument, but the Corvette used to be at the upper end of an 'everyman car' as the slightly higher-tech daddy to the Firebird and Camaro. Granted this is a Z06 but at $166K they've certainly shifted the market segment where the car is aimed from where it once was. I always loved the fact that my LS1 Camaro could hang on the track with euro-spec M3 costing more than twice as much - and I think the Vette still does this today but it's now competing in a different segment than it once did. I'm not complaining - it's a bargain for what you get and an amazing car - it's just changed from being the higher end of sports car into the bottom end of exotic in both pricing and performance.

The SC engine makes tons more power in the lower, more usable rpm range and other than the amazing sound of spinning high revs, will be more fun to drive. Put the old SC engine in the C8 vette and it would be amazing.

    America was lifted out of poverty by cheap energy, and access to inexpensive vehicles. Now that we're letting people, who hate cars, make regulations to kill them, access to energy, is being undone. Now only the wealthiest citizens, will be able to drive. I used to remember aspiring to own a car like this, but now most everyone understands, they will never be allowed to have these things. The wealthy have decided, it's only for them. It's not my trouble, I'm old, and have enough money, but I'm very sad, for this generation's future. Don't let tyrants rob you of your prosperity. Sadly very few people will even read warnings like this as it's forbidden to even talk about it.

  • @jwsnyder5021
    @jwsnyder5021 Год назад

    Great review...I have a push-rod C8 and I agree with your observation that the transmission occasionally, momentarily hesitates after just dumping on the throttle or selecting a gear with a paddle. Here's why (I think): when you're accelerating hard, say from a stop, the trans computer is "preparing" the next gear on the alternate input shaft, based on your throttle position...the shift is blazingly fast...then it again prepares the next gear, say 3rd, locking it on to the other input shaft preparing for the next shift, and so on. BUT, if you randomly select a gear it's not "expecting", there is a momentary delay while the computer "finds" the gear and locks it on to an available shaft. Comprende?

    • @chilopodamancer
      @chilopodamancer Год назад

      I think another reason is because the computer for the Z06's trans will actually slightly change when your shift comes to smooth out shifts during cornering or quicker to rotate the car better, supposedly. I think this can be percieved as hesitance at slower speeds, which it might just be, but it's interesting to consider since obviously there are times when it's crisp and instant and times when it's not.

HP ratings are pretty useless, as area under the curve matters much more (even though a peaky engine can be slightly more engaging and more fun to drive IMO). Just very quckly, not thought out, off the top of my head: ((HP area under the curve) * (torque area under the curve) * (1 - coefficient of friction) / (curb weight) * (fuel consumption per 1/4 mile drag))

    I was impressed by all the choices GM made in the C8 Z06, but when Jason talked about engine efficiency and the oil bath, I was blown away by the GM engineers really going the extra mile in this engine design. This is how big companies should compete, by leveraging their economies of scale to put more resources into R&D.

      Harley and GM both went way above and beyond for American companies, with the new Corvette and the new Pan America motorcycle by Harley. The amount of new innovations that have never been used by any American companies is really amazing. Harley was the first motorcycle in history to use hydraulic lifters on an adventure bike, so no valve adjustments, as well as automotic ride height that adjusts when you come to a stop, so you don't tip over on your motorcycle. The Harley Pan America engine is really a masterpiece of engineering, and people who ride say there's not much like it on the road, and for an American motorcycle engine it's more advanced than anything that has ever been made. And the Corvette engine, they literally used every possible technology available to make the engine, they didn't save money and try to cut costs, they did every innovation possible, and it's truly a masterpiece.

      He is comparing the efficiency of a naturally aspirated (new) engine to a supercharged (old) engine. That's not "going the extra mile", it's the obvious result of not using a mechanically driven supercharger. It would be interesting to compare efficiency to highest-output naturally aspirated C7 engine.

    I really do think the C8 Corvette is like the NSX from the 90's: It's supercar performance and supercar looks, for a price that its supercar competitors (lambo/ferrari) simply cannot match. It's too bad we can't have the C8 for American prices, here in Europe.

      This time of the day, all those so-called "super car killers" are selling at super car prices. High end 911's, super car prices, this z06, super car prices. Heck even the base C8's still get markups after being released for 3 years!

      @@magnusandersen8898 It has nothing to do with whether GM is hoarding the product. It's simply that when supercar performance vehicles are sold at supercar price, they are super car, and the name means nothing, neither does the history. Underdogs are not the underdogs anymore when they become the overdogs.
