NEWEY, LEWIS, AND THE NEWS! Opinions on Newey's CONFIRMED 2025 Red Bull Departure

  • So those rumours I humoured turned out to be true. There's now fresh speculation on top because Newey leaving seems to have people thinking he's guaranteed to go to Maranello, and that the Ferrari will be instantly fixed with him being there.
    But the excitement needs to be toned down. For those that think Red Bull will implode SOLELY because of Newey going, and those thinking him being off to Ferrari is a given.
    Knowing my luck this will be up for two minutes and then it'll pop up saying he is going to Ferrari. Tone down the excitement, people!
    Enjoy! And remember to like and subscribe for more!

      Fun fact, Paul Simon insisted that Garfunkel sang that song. Art took some persuasion apparently. It was only after he'd done the recording did Simon realise that he'd screwed up. He knew he couldn't sing it as well, but he also knew how the credit would go.

    Newey is the guy who ripped-up his own way of doing suspension for this rule set (only one other team realised that was advantageous by the 1st test) passed on how to do the underfloor so its not so sensitive to ride height and told Red Bull, let the proposed rule changes mid-2022 slide, because it will help our car at least vs Ferrari. Those 3 things allow Max to drive 0.5sec faster than the field. Newey doesn’t do all the work, but what he does makes a quantitive car difference.

      I've said before that sometimes having the experience to know what NOT to do has a value of it's own, especially in this era of cost caps. I seriously wonder how many designs were submitted to him where he said "I know this looks like it should work, but let me explain why it won't..." Yeah, he might not have "designed" the final parts but those designs needed to work in his concept.

    • @n8pls543
      @n8pls543 29 дней назад +1

      I'm curious about this, because we have a Red Bull that uses its tires well and has great suspension, we have Waché being stuck on the pit wall all the time and whisperings that the rest of the design team wanted more credit, then we have disgruntled Newey leaving almost like he disagreed that they should've shared the credit. And if you look into it again, you have a guy with a doctorate in fluid dynamics who worked at Michelin and was BMW Sauber's tires and suspension guy, and then a high profile aerodynamicist saying it was him who came up with the suspension. Would it not make a lot of sense for the guy who works with tires and suspension to be the guy who figured the suspension out?

  • @ziggystardust4627
    @ziggystardust4627 29 дней назад +15

    Here's what I had to say elsewhere:
    He's set the direction of a large engineering team, getting them to focus on the concept, and he's probably also walking around, pointing at some engineer's CAD screen, saying, "You might want to think about how the vortex on that strake interacts with the diffuser" or some such thing. He doesn't have to be at the drawing board, or CAD screen, to integrally drive the team. He can set and manage concept development, and leave the details to dozens of other engineers. The value of that, especially in modern F1, where no one person can oversee every detail of a modern car, cannot be overestimated. If he wants to, I think he can bring that to another team without a crushing time commitment.
    My guess is that RB will at least coast on that residual effect, and either someone will step up into that role, either within our outside the organization, or they'll fade a spot or two down the grid.

    Honestly, if Newey does go to Ferrari, then that means that Vasseur is a regen Todt; getting the Italians out of harms way and everything. And honestly, I can see a solid possibility of Ferrari finally getting back on top.
    However, there is a small part of me that finds the concept of Ferrari failing despite everything they are building up most *amusing* to say at least. And the moment Hamilton and Leclerc crash (not if, WHEN) I will start laughing like a madman.

      I half agree, but don't forget it took Schumi 5 seasons at Ferrari to get his first title with them, and he was already undeniably the best driver on the field before he even joined Ferrari. As good as Lewis is, he's just about to turn 40, plus, as of the *present moment* (and I really need to stress *present moment* before fanboys flame, I'm not talking about 2018 Lewis or 2010 Lewis), Verstappen and/or Alonso are debatably better.
      I mean it would be super impressive if he could win a title at 45/6, never say never, but single-seater racing, let alone F1 is incredibly physically taxing for someone pushing 50. I'd actually wager a Leclerc domination run in a few years.

      @@solitaryclusterofneurons598 Alonso is living proof that age isn't that big of an issue. Plus I think there still will be drama between Leclerc and Hamilton because, well, this is Ferrari™ we are talking about. The same team that had the infamous "Rubens, let Michael pass for the championship" and "Alonso is faster than you" radio messages. Binotto may have tried to claim that "there is no number 1 driver at Ferrari" but we all know that when it comes to a championship fight they will absolutely support one driver over the other. Sainz made the mistakes he did in 2022 partly because he didn't want to be turned into the 2nd driver (he did perform better after he was given a new chassis but it was too late by then). Leclerc and Hamilton will both start off friendly and wholesome but the moment a championship battle starts they'll do everything they can to avoid becoming the dreaded No.2 Ferrari Driver©.

    I did look back and think "What happened when Newey left other teams". Hard to find a pattern - Leyton House were financially dying anyway in the early 90s, and Newey's departure from Williams was accompanied with the loss of works Renault engines. McLaren is an interesting one - they were 'varied' in the later half of the 00s after he left, but didn't really drop off big-time until 2013 or so - they probably were best at building a post-Newey era.

      From what I've seen from Newey in his interviews, I refuse to believe this was matter of ego. What's more likely, is that it's related to his soon-to-expire contract in combination with the ongoing fracas at Red Bull, or it could just have been him wanting to do something else, anyway, something he's hinted at in a couple of his more recent interviews. Newey is the genius that interprets the breadth and scope of technical regulations. It's not only his ideas, it's his capacity to incorporate his ideas cleverly without violating technical regs. He's done this his entire career, and also has filled so many positions within teams over the years that he understands the whole process from top down. I'm afraid anyone trying to minimize his impact, particularly with new regs upcoming, is either not aware of Adrian's career or F1's history.

    I see three options for Newey. First go to Aston Martin to design a new hypercar. They've worked with him before, and the idea pulling a Gordon Murray and getting out of racing completely to build a no compromises road car has to have a lot of appeal. Second, go to Ferrari, tick off any boxes left. Work for Ferrari? Work with Hamilton? Take his fourth team to greatness, then do a mike drop as he walks into retirement? All he needs is someone to keep the politics of Ferrari under control. And third? Decide he's had enough of it all, get on his boat, and sail into the sunset, on top, with a reputation that will never be surpassed in our time

    At the end of Abu Dhabi in 2021 I remember Sky Sports doing an interview post race with Newey and Horner. They asked him “so, who had the better car all year.” Newey replied “on balance, I think we had the better car all year.”
    I think Newey has always wanted to work with Hamilton and the fact 2021 was so close when Newey believed their car was better - raised his suspicions even more.

      Mercedes were massively quicker at the end of the year though it's fair to say they quicker on balance after all it only went to the last race because of dirty driving from the Mercedes boys.

      I think Adrian would've realised it was largely horrendous luck for Red Bull that kept Mercedes in. There must've been nearly a 100 point swing in there if it had gone Verstappen's way, between his tire exploding in Baku, Hamilton getting a well-timed red flag in Imola when he had crashed out and was a lap down that let him recover to 2nd, Verstappen getting ploughed into in Silverstone and Hungary, the weirdness with track limits in Bahrain. It took some incredible luck for Lewis to stay in it, all things considered.

      Mercedes definitely had the better car, max is what allowed red bull to win, if the car was so good checo would have been much better.

    🎉How has Eddie Jordan managed to pull this 12 months gardening leave for Newey off? Whatever Eddie Jordan ( & the team of Lawyers Adrian Newey has) are not getting paid enough! Getting gardening leave cut down to May 2025 from January 2027 is the biggest F1 deal in this century. Red Bull have scored another series own goal here. Business is business, this does not make business sense! 😢
