I completely adored Foster, it stuck with me more than any other short story I've read. Thanks for reminding me I could use a re-read of it! 😉 Totally agree there is such *depth* (I keep thinking there's so much "muchness" 😊) in such a short story.
Since you're into Jim Butcher now, I'd recommend his Codex Alera series. It's one of my favorites along with Dresden. Another masterclass in character driven storytelling from Butcher.
Glad to hear your thoughts on The Answer is No - I had the same thoughts about everything being overstated and it kind of put me off reading any more Backman (this was my first). Glad to know this is not the best example of his writing.
I am so sorry for missing your amazing videos as I have a very bad heart ♥️ condition and I am also looking after my wife and her dementia so I am very sorry for missing them as I love your amazing videos and content and fantastic channel love 🥰 your Aussie family friend John ❤❤❤❤
Sorry you didn't like The Answer is No! I personally really ended up liking it, but I felt like the beginning was a little rocky, mostly because I felt like the book was trying too hard to be a lot of things. It did settle into something I ended up liking, but I understand where a lot of people might not like it. It's a middle of the road Backman book for me.
The Answer is No makes me wonder if you've read Catch-22 by Joseph Heller. It's worth a read if you enjoy humor about how absurd people can be in real life.
turns out that Agatha Christie lady was pretty damn good at writing mysteries

Endless Night is more like a thriller than a classic mystery. But people expect because it's Christie, that it will be a mystery.

Nice to hear Toll the hounds is being continued with. That one took me a long time.
I'm glad that you enjoyed Endless Night. Are you going to tackle anymore Agatha Christie books in the future?
I'm sure I will!

I got out of my reading slump this month by starting The Secret History by Donna Tartt. I'm a 150 pages in and really like it so far!
I love love loved the found family in the nightward too, thank you for introducing it to me 😭
Foster hit me hard. Very bittersweet.

I have the nightward on my TBR but haven’t read it yet!
If you like classic melodrama you should read the return of the native by Thomas hardy!
I need to hear your thoughts on Absolution.

Endless Night was the first Agatha Christie novel I read.
Please read "Will save the galaxy for food" by Yahtzee Croshaw. I very much enjoyed it.
It’s time to read again some Agatha Christie… 20 years now I read them or more.
Not just pad Thai but pad Thai with peanuts

I am not a huge fan of Backman’s works. I wonder how much of that is because of the translation and how much is me just not clicking with him.
Im about halfway though The Answer is No and its annoying me so much. So far this is so not a me book
