      You are correct, Taiwanese are some of the most heart warming people on the planet. My Sister-In-Law's sister heard I wanted to go to Maoli and video the rice paddies in that area of Taiwan. She does not live there, but volunteered to pick me up. She did find me, walking in the Rice Paddies beside the white Confucius Temple there in Maoli. She then drove me all the way up into the mountains to have lunch and then back down to the coast to see the Wind Mills. She is a loving, caring and sharing person. She and her daughter did a wonderful thing for me and I will never forget their kindness. Just like your Umbrella, my experience leads me to believe in my heart that Taiwanese are simply the best people.

      +Texas Don The best purity of banana-milk (or any other kind of xxx-milk) would be at the "Juicy Bar" that you can see everywhere, especially in the night-market. (More often to be seen in night-market, but usually worse quality.)
      Most of them are blended "in-front-of-you" with fresh banana and 100% milk, without water!

      Yes, I agree with the freshness issue. However, I also agree with the sanitation issue. Of course, my local 7 11 is only a 1 minute walk and the nearest Juice Bar is pretty far away.
      Now, I do like to go to SOGO over in Tienmu when I have time. The only problem with that is I also enjoy the Mango Ice they sell. Now that is delicious!

    4. 看看影片,學習學習"starch" 是啥東東。 就算你不出國,不稀和外文。 每日一字,輕鬆清鬆看段影片。不是很好嗎?
    Don, got to write something in Chinese. Hope you understand it or get someone translate it for you. Cheers🍸🍸

      +Texas Don Probably because you're western white, when it comes to different races...different end stories. Want hospitality? Then born with correct color...not just in Taiwan, but everywhere. When Taiwan people talk about 'foreigner' they mean white people, many of them don't care other colors (except Japan & Korean). Hey, this is a secret truth that no one admit. Talking with white people or helping white people makes them feel 'upper class'.

    • @texasdon8090
      @texasdon8090  8 лет назад +1

      +ABC4475
      Correct color? Of course I know that to some Taiwanese and some Asians in general Foreigner means white people, big nose people, devil people, etc.
      What is there to admit? That some people in Taiwan are racists? Some people in the US are racists, Africa as well. Racism seems to be a part of the human condition.
      So, what is the correct color, any color other than white?

    • @ABC4475
      @ABC4475 8 лет назад

      +Texas Don I never see any African people, Thailand people, India people being so thankful and greatful like you, Not because they are callous, mainly because they didn't get the same treat like you......that's why.
      Most people post 'thank you Taiwan' video hereon RUclips are white people, Japanese, and Korean. That makes me so confused!!
      And yes, we are racist, when Paris were attacked by ISIS, thousands of PRAY, LOVE, HUG, FLOWERS, TEARS comes from people all around the world. At the same time, millions of Syrian were killed, but no body gives a shit!!!! That's why!! You want to know what's correct?? Yeah......keep asking me why!!!
      We nice to you will you German nice to us when our people stay in your country, Germany? Or just give us an ASIAN LOOK? Ask yourself, not me!
      To sum up, enjoy your life in Taiwan, because what you have here, is not unconditional. And don't forget to pass along the favor, Mr. I do mean it.

      I try to filter out the foul language. However, everyone deserves a chance to speak what they believe. Even when I think they are wrong, they still have the right to speak. We must listen to them and discuss with them yes. They are rude because the society in which they live makes them rude. We know how to treat people with respect, we should always do so.
      You need to write a letter to your new President and tell her how proud you are to be Taiwanese. Have all your friends write letters also. Let her know that you support her. She will appreciate hearing from all of you.

    台灣只有專業的洗衣工廠,才會使用衣膠來燙衣服,可使衣服較為硬直,筆挺。 但長期收納,容易使衣物纖維脆化,
    早已不使用了,外加衣膠化學成份,會使體質較差的人,引起過敏症狀,早已再各大量販下架。

    you need to look for potato starch(太白粉) or corn starch(玉米粉). should be in the baking supply isle. dissolve it in water(1.5 tbsp dissolved in 2 cups of water), then put it in a spray bottle. there you go. we don't iron clothes at home in Taiwan so nobody understands what you are talking about even if they know what starch is.

In contrast, DIY are more commonly in western civilization. therefore, we do not have "starch" in our grocery shop, you have go to somewhere like Costco. They are imported lots of stuff from U.S.A.

      Taiwan has advanced a tremendous amount and to deny such is to deny the will of the Taiwanese to always be better. Unlike those in Communist China who only wish to continue living in that pig sty of a country. I lived in Taiwan a long time ago and I can tell you, it is marvelous to see the improvements in this wonderful country.

      aahttp, you seem to not consider a few points. The local markets in Taiwan, just like those in the United States and Japan serve a function for their local communities. The larger stores offer better prices, but then, not everyone likes to shop there. Long live the family neighborhood markets. They are so much better than the large box stores.

    hello, my grandma used to starch quilts(漿棉被), but nowaday no one starch them. If you need starch for ironing, you may make it by yourself. Just put a little cornstarch into water, and put it into a spray bottle. Now you have a srarch!!! Maybe you can also try to starch quilts in a sunshine day. After washing quilts, put them into a starch water (the ratio of starch and water is crucial ,but I have no idea) wait for two hours and dry them under the sun ! Enjoy your life in Taiwan!!!

If I practice a little bit, I could even come up with the right ratio. Thank you, what a great idea!

    Awesome video! In Taiwan elder household usually boil the rice very long time ,let rice became almost liquid state( 米粥 ), pour out the top clear liquid to cup, there is starch -water
    or Easy way : u buy one bowl of rice(nt$10) at restaurant ,u add more water and reboil rice 飯 to slurry (粥)

    • @texasdon8090
      @texasdon8090  8 лет назад

      Oh, I know. When I lived in Taiwan we would also make paste from the same slurry. Worked really good when pasting paper to cement walls and telephone poles. Worked excellently gluing two pieces of paper together. Even better than the store bought glues. However in this case, the store bought starch is better, attracts less bugs.

      Well, here is the thing. 98% of the time, Taiwanese want to practice their English and so when I use my little vocabulary, they immediately start speaking English. It is amazing how many people in Taiwan speak good English.

    • @texasdon8090
      @texasdon8090  8 лет назад

      English is an international language, the largest English speaking country in the world is India. However, I do not see language or the lack of it as a problem. I have never had so much fun as when I am trying to communicate with someone who does not speak English. We have to come up with our own way of communicating and it is just a ball, I love it. English is a language for technical subjects, but it is not my favorite for speaking with women. When speaking with women, I much prefer Spanish. A great language for the little back and forth between men and women.

    台灣是對 “白種人” 友善
    基本上對東南亞人還是諸多歧視
    It is only for white people like you who will say Taiwanese people are friendly to foreigners. If you ask people from Indonesia, Vietnam and Thailand, etc., it's another way around...

    • @texasdon8090
      @texasdon8090  8 лет назад +3

      I fully understand what you are saying. However, having experienced first hand the way the people from Indonesia, Vietnam and Thailand misbehave, it is no wonder that group does not feel very happy in Taiwan. Most of my interaction has been with those SEA Folks who have been hired to take care of Taiwanese. I see them in the parks, with the people they are suppose to be watching parked in the sun in their wheel chair while the lady interacts with her cell phone. I watched as one lady was pushing her Taiwanese in the day market and not stopping when the individual requested her to stop. Every road has two ways. Every coin has two sides. If the people from SEA are not happy, then they should simply go home. The airline that brought them can certainly take them back. This is not just true for Taiwan, it is true for every country in the world. If people want to come to the US because they can make money, but sit around and complain about everything, then simply go home.

      You know, you are such a racist, why "White" people? That is one problem you have to fix. Stop putting racist labels on people, stop crying and wetting your diaper when life gives you a hard time. What is wrong with you, you think you have a rough life because you are not a "White" person? Everyone has a rough time, some of us simply find a solution and move forward without sucking our thumbs and feeling so very sorry for ourselves. Learn to be a man, if you are a man, learn to be a woman, if you are a woman. You think I do not understand how tremendously racist Asians can be? Guess again. I chose to ignore that and look at the good side of life, maybe you should do that also. Hell, you might even crack a smile you wouid be so happy.

    • @SuperChapmann
      @SuperChapmann 8 лет назад +1

      +Texas Don I brought this up simply because my stepmother is Indonesian. She's been having a hard time living in Taiwan because people don't treat her as a human. Even my great-grandma treats her as a slave not family. I just brought up the truth. Yes, maybe there ARE some poeple who are hired and don't do their job properly. But that still doesn't make it right to treat them like that. Furthermore, a lot of migrant workers later become the kind of people you've seen on street misbehave because their employers don't treat them properly and are disrespectful. They've been in several jokes and were teased by Taiwanese. Being a Taiwanese myself, I feel sad to see these kinds of things happen. We like to say we are not as racist as american ( some of our teachers even said so in class) but the truth is not.
      If you find the word "white" offensive, I'm sorry. But I'm just telling the truth. Taiwanese tend to be friendlier to people from america, Europe, etc. Yes, all of us have our own problems and are struggling, but that doesn't make it right to discriminate others and tell them to grow up and find a way. I bet you won't tell african-americans to deal with it and stop crying when they are being discriminated.

    • @SuperChapmann
      @SuperChapmann 8 лет назад +1

      +Texas Don Also, if you've ever been a victim of discrimination in Taiwan, I'm sorry for that. I'm not saying Taiwanese never discriminate white people but the percentage is far lower than that of SEA folks. I'm against all kinds and forms of discrimination. And I'm just not that kind who would sit there and see all these things happen and say nothing...

    • @texasdon8090
      @texasdon8090  8 лет назад +2

      ERA, I understand, there are members of my wife's family who do not accept me because I am not from Taiwan. I understand the feelings your Step Mom has. My brother-in-law has a wife from Vietnam. Yes, it can be hard and it can be difficult. Yet, as I have stated, I chose to disregard the racism I face everyday. It does no good at all. I can sit and cry all day long in the bathtub, but what good would that do? You know as well as I what kinds of abuse a wife takes from her Mother-In-Law in Taiwan, no matter if she is Taiwanese or not. That is just a fact of life and was greatly studied by American Social Scientist. That to is no reason to live a sour life. I also know the feelings of being teased and called names because folks think I do not understand. Got news for them, I understand well, just chose the higher road.
      I do not find the term "White" offensive. I find the strong suggestion of racism it was used in as offensive. I understand that living in a country where most people are of the same height, have the same hair color, have the same complexion, etc. can lead to high degrees of racism. It is normal. Everyone, and I mean everyone, has some racial bias in them. It is the mark of the educated person to look over those and find the goodness inside others, not the evil that lurks beneath. I bet I do tell African Americans to deal with it and stop crying.
      So, move on, grow up. It is a world filled with interesting things, some good, some not so good. Yet all are interesting.
