according to me he is right because you do not know what languages someone speaks buy if you had already menioned language names or you have them on a list or whateveter then you can use "which" because you are choosing which languages you speak
He said he even picks a personality standard when speaking a language to help memorize and separate. Could be partly why, but like De Castelle said, intonation is important when pronouncing a lot of words in a language. Not even anything necessarily to do with dialect.
adding on to the previous comment- it would make sense that he has a "different personality" with each language because when you learn a language, you are resetting your mind.
Wow, How the hell is he learning so much of those languages to quickly ??? Even with the methods he says he's using, there is no way an average human can acquire that much vocabulary from so many languages in so short a time. Wow just wow.
lots of languages use different intonations, and i read earlier that he's said he "makes" new personalities or something with each language to help separate them in his head.
Whois Lois that’s true my sister says to me when I speak our family native language I sound like a different person and I agree I d sound different mire stoic and for some reason more clearly at times... it’s really weird
Andrew Eckerberg It's not so much that he does it on purpose, it's just something that usually happens when you learn a new language, even if it's only your second language. It's pretty common.
why is there so much hate for this guy? just because he knows "some click languages" instead of easy ones like spanish or portuguese does not mean he is shit. HE KNOWS HOW TO SPEAK 20 LANGUAGES.
ChakLong A bunch of people are just bitter he wasn't interested in their language. I'd say good on him for learning lesser known languages and keeping those traditions alive.
7 years ago, you made me want to start learning Foreign Languages, I started learning Hebrew two years ago and now I could understand everything you said in that language ! Thanks man
@@daysimon0909 Sure, Started on Duolingo but don't stick to Duolingo only as you become more fluent, it's a good way to start since it relies on gamification which makes learning more enjoyable for a beginner. But once you feel ready, try hitting real books. I also use Memrise for Vocabulary. I am learning on my own. Good luck :)
somebody else notice how the tone of his voice changes with every language ?? i find that sooo interesting, russian was really deep for example and farsi on the other hand sounded nasal .. crazy but so cool
It's because sounds pronounced in different languages come from different places, for example I've head that to speak Japanese accurately the sounds should come from your chest whereas to speak English you use the upper part of your throat (or smt?), so your way of speaking naturally changes in order to sound more fluent and feel comfortable
He might try to emulate a particular speaker of the target language. I try to match someone's intonation even if it makes no difference to the meaning of the sentence.
It happens to me too when I speak another language rather than Arabic wich is my mother tongue, speaking German change completely my voice, but speaking russian will make it really deep, and this is because of the output of sounds that differ according to the language
As a native German I am amazed how fluent your German is. I would love to hear you speaking german now, since the video is more than two years old. I can't believe how much you've learned in 8 weeks ._. And your pronunciation was very good too. You sounded very german even though there were some wrong words ( I respect you for learning the german pronunciation within 8 weeks xD) I'm also amazed from the other languages but since I can only speak german and englisch, a little bit french and understand italian, I can't judge them. :D But I'm sure they're as good or better as your german.
Helen Koleh As a German I understand a lot when a Dutch person is talking. To me it always sounded like a mixture of German and English (no offense ;). Is Dutch grammar easier than German grammar? Because I assume that learning Dutch would not be like learning a complete new language for me :) Am I wrong and Dutch is way more difficult than I think?
Emilio Genarro I'm dutch and a lot of foreign people that I know here have difficulties with the grammar, so I guess dutch grammar is very hard if you're not born here
Emilio Genarro Yeah a lot of German people understand it :) , I understand more French than German but then again im not fully Dutch even though I'm born in The Netherlands.I understand Yiddish more than German. It's weird for me to have troubles with languages because I speak 5 and im learning the 6th and 7th language. :) I think German and Dutch grammar are both hard. And Sharona van Andel I totally agree with you, I have some friends that are learning Dutch and they said grammar is so hard.
Lazy Person's guide to learn a foreign language extremely fast. 1. Memorise the 1000 most common words 2. Watch movies subtitled and spoken in the language you are learning. How do young kids become fluent by the time they turn 3 or 4? Do they know how to write or read? Have they ever studied their language? You subconsciously learn the grammar and pronunciation just like those young kids. You listen and read at the same time. That's exactly how I learnt my english in just one year. Basicaly those 2 steps are the most important ones. I would still hung out with native speakers after a while, changed my pc and phone menu to the language i was trying to learn, read articles, talk to myself etc as a side help. Fluent in just a year without even trying hard at all. Fuck books and lessons.
Kochos why is it a good idea. if you do it like you said you wont learn the language at all. important things like grammar or pronounciation cant be learned by watching movies. if you want speak a language you have to do it by you self. listening to other people is not enough
Drogaddos Check this out. How do young kids become fluent by the time they turn 3 or 4? Do they know how to write or read? Have they ever studied their language? And what do you mean when you say that I need to listen to other people speaking? Most of the times human actors play in the movies not animals.
You should also try Finnish to have a new challenge: I myself am learning Italian now, that is my fifth language. Maybe it is little harder for me because I am already 72!
@Thanos Depends a bit on what your native language is. If you're Dutch for example, German is pretty similar and not so hard. But generally speaking, French is definitely easier, especially the grammar
I really admire you for being in the process of learning so many languages... I myself study English, French, German and Japanese at uni, and I know how hard it is! Especially after a while, when you start mixing words and grammars... Italian is my motherlanguage and I can easily say that you are highly comprehensible, you wouldn't have any particular comunication issue on an everyday basis. That said, if your aim is to get really good at it, I'd suggest you focusing on the pronunciation of double sounds and above all on the prosody of the sentence, because your accent is the one that every foreign use when trying to "make fun" of Italians. There are SO MANY different Italian accents, but I'd suggest focusing on the most "standard" one, which is the one spoken (mostly) on tv and in the northern area of Lombardia (again, more or less). If you miss a plural or forget an article it's not a big deal, but these small changes will help you make an even better impression! Good luck ^^ (Please do correct my English if there are any mistakes, I'm still learning ^^)
Chiara SB If you study Italian overseas, you generally do get taught the subjunctive. I got taught it 9th year in my 10 years of learning the language. I can definitely see why Italians generally don't use it. Feels like the passato remoto >
Yo hablo español y entiendo el Italiano como si me estuvieran hablando en en español y yo creo que es porque el italiano y español son muy similares.ah y tabien se leer lo dependiendo en las palabras pero todavia se me hace que es mas facil entender el Italian cuando lo hablan, que cuando lo leeo. :)
don't feel bad, this happens to most people when they learn a language in school. Language learning in a class is not the best way to navigate a language.vous devriez essayer de votre mieux pour apprendre le français à travers, c'est très utile!
+rick92rr I wish I had taken learning a language more series in school. Right now i'm only fluent in English. It's nice for me to be able to read all the comments but I understand that writing in your first language is a lot easier for people.
+rick92rr i think learning another language has given me more respect to other people who have been learning english, i think many take it for granted that it really isnt easy
6/10 for Dutch, really good for someone who isn't from the Netherlands, your most mistakes are from mixing German up with Dutch, keep practicing and you will be great at it🤗
I figure out Dutch looks way easier than German (throughout a1) and think that someone should learn Dutch before than German, it really one of the linker languages of German with English. The other one is probably Swedish.
Are you kidding me. He learned so much German in eight weeks, compared to 3 months with me. In addition, he's practically fluent, at which I'm not. How does he do it......
Some people are naturally better at learning languages. I am also a polyglot and I currently know English and Turkish fluently. English is my native language, and I just decided in college one day I wanted to become a translator. I am currently learning German, Arabic, Gaelic, Mandarin and Cantonese.
Michelle Totoris hey Michelle Totoris ... I am interested to practise some languages with like English and Arabic if you would like this is my facebook name " Anas Abu Wardeh "
It all depends on how much time you spend on learning. If he spends 2 hours every day, and you spend 1, then obviously he'll become better faster than you. You don't even know if he's fluent. Dishing out a few words common phrases is not the same as being fluent. He's good, but not fluent.
You're right. I know Spanish, German, English, and a little French (currently working on that); and you start to see similarities with words in other languages.
I love how you change your accent on every language that’s we are supposed to do but some of us just stay with our accent on the languages we learn and accent/pronunciation is so important
Considering he already knows italian, not to mention the prevalence of spanish in America, I would wager that he knows it pretty well, thus he didn't include it in a practicing video(plus 20 is a nice number, he could have just cut it down).
>similar to English. Nope. Spanish, Italian, French and Portuguese are similar, but are different from German, Dutch and English. And Spanish is not that easy, if you think so then you have never heard of the eternal struggle to learn and dominate the subjunctive.
I got really excited when you started speaking Arabic! I took an Arabic class for half a semester last semester and I loved it. But it was so hard :( But I love the language!
Yes arabic is hard , but if u learned how to speak arabic u can master the pronunciation in any language because of the variety of letters in arabic :)
Arabic is my Native language it's hard and we continue to learn forever :D because every word has different meanings with slight difference (example hijab means "head veil , barrier between things (hijab hajiz = the Diaphragm as it seperates between heart & lungs) , cover ( hajab el shams = blocked the sun) , a lucky charm , a hideout " depending on how it's used in contex .. however this diversity allows you to explain your exact meaning Watch movies/dramas , and try to dedicate time on self-learning :)
I speak English, a good amount of spanish, and some german, and i could understand yiddish, dutch, and italian well in the video. Weird how that works.
Yiddish and Dutch are both west Germanic languages, just like German, which you speak. Italian is a Romance language just like Spanish. Nothing weird about it if you know what's going on. :)
I can't believe how many people are jelaous in these comments... can he write and read? who cares? most of you can't even write in your own language.Good job buddy!
The reason is pretty simple. He choses quantity over quality, hence forth by learning the basics anyone can express in 20 languages, he only real fluent in 1-2 languages besides english.
@Ellia i agree with you 100% this young man is amazing !!! & if he decides on a career as an ambassador or work for the united nations his got a Bright future ahead of him good job Tim, God bless you!!!
ColdTurkey he’s atleast fluently in 5, 6 languages haven’t you seen the whole video? French, German, persian, arabic, hebrew, and, russian, are all languages he’s fluent in
Haha I can see myself doing that, I've heard it's a good way to not confuse the language with other languages in case you're studying multiple at the same time
Yes, google the Korean alphabet and its English equivalent and spell your name, for example. Your name, Abby Stott, is 아비 스타트. It's so addicting, my cousin and I are now reading Korean comic books
I'm a korean myself so i may not know how hard or easy to learn it but it does seem to be quite easy to read korean once you finish the basics. Writing and speaking is a bit harsh though - probably those crazy honorifics will come as the first among the main reasons
You truly have a gift from God! You will have a life experience that almost no one else can have because you are able to talk to everyone, and learn about different cultures from their perspectives. Absolutely amazing. That is an actual SUPERPOWER!
My dream is to speak multiple languages but I'm so bad at remembering things.. I'm currently learning Spanish and French. I want to speak Spanish, French, Italian, Japanese, Korean, and Hindi fluently. I know that's a lot, but I dream of traveling to all of those countries and would love to be able to speak to natives somewhat well.
You'll learn them! I currently only speak English and Spanish fluently but I want to learn Russian, German, Georgian, Indonesian, Arabic, and maybe French! I'm only focusing on one at a time, right now Russian.
+RenocideGamer don't say that just because you don't have enough ambition to learn a language. Almost anyone can learn a language if they actually have a passion for it.
i am learning Korean and French right now, my sister is learning Hindi and will learn french soon, i plan on learning Hindi at some point. 😊 you can do it if you really want to!! if there is a will, there is a way 😉
to pronounce the languages correctly you kind of need to adapt the accent a little bit. otherwise you just sound like an english speaker reading from a phrase book
This is so impressive. Probably the most diverse set of languages that I've ever seen here on RUclips. 10 years later I wonder how much more progress has been made. Keep yo the great work!!!
eftersom att du är finsk (misstänker jag). så kan du säkert förstå svenska^^ svenska är ett enkelt språk (skriftligt men inte stavandet)... men att prata svenska är svårare eftersom att man behöver betona olika beroende på vad sammanhanget är^^
Finnish has extremely difficult grammar, and it's closest relative is Hungarian, which is also another very difficult one. But, I admire his enthusiasm. When I sampled Finnish, one of the songs I listened to was Jarvet Jäihin Jää by Ruoska. Difficult pronunciation to say the least.
***** you should see from the wide array of languages that he learns or speaks that simply a difficult or different grammar won't stop him, and the fact that Finnish is an "agglutinative" language won't also hamper him significantly especially since he is also learning Turkish which has the same feature
When I started learning English I watched a lot of your videos. Now I can speak English and I made my first video and I posted on my channel. Thank you for inspiring me! =D
YOUR PERSIAN IS SO GOOD IM SO SHOOK! PERSIAN IS MY FIRST LANGUAGE AND I KNOW HOW HARD IT CAN BE SO YOURE AMAZING ANDA GENUIS FOR BEING ABLE TO SPEAK IT SO WELL!
I'm italian and I noticed that most of italian people who comments this video doesn't encourage him but was only able to say "your italian sucks" ( Il tuo italiano fa schifo et similar ), then I noticed that a lot of people of other country said him he makes a few mistakes on their own language then trying to correct him with advide ( most of them are Dutch that say he sound like German, or Arabic ) Porco dio sa comunicare in 20 lingue diverse e giudicate negativamente? Faccio notare che dice "practicing 20 languages" e non "I know 20 languages like people of the country who speak that language"
I can’t believe he can speak 20 languages that’s a true gift but of course it takes a lot of dedication to learn. I’am a little surprised that he doesn’t speak Spanish though, considering it’s the 2nd largest language in the Country. But it still is amazing that he can speak languages that I didn’t even know existed.
Wow you are amazing. What a talent!! German is my mother tongue and your pronunciation is almost perfect. Wonderful and I absolutely pull my hat for you !!! Please keep this up, this is absolutely amazing, your parents must be so proud of you!! Greetings from Italy :)
***** ich glaube so mancher Deutsche könnte sich eine Scheibe von diesem jungen Mann abschneiden. Mich gruselts jedesmal wenn ich nach Deutschland fliege und manche Jugendlichen reden höre. Ist das noch Deutsch? Grammatikalisch der reinste Horror und schrecklich für die Ohren. Also ich finde es einmalig wenn jemand in so kurzer Zeit eine Sprache lernt. Ich ziehe meinen Hut!!!
Your Hindi was surprisingly good but the accent was lacking that final touch. If you want to be more fluent in it then you gotta do quite some work on areas like correct pronunciation and continuous flow. But other than that hats off man #respect
That was... amazing . I couldn't believe my ears and I sincerely cried when you started the 11th language, you are really, really, really talented, you speak these languages with so much ease and in such a short time of learning; that's awesome and I wish I could learn as fast as you do. I love foreign languages, and for example I'm studying russian on my own, with only a little book and I feel like a piece of junk when I hear you, because I started 5 months ago, and all that I can say is "Privièt, Ia frantsoujènka" T----T So you have all my congratulations because I know very well that learning another language is hard, and you have learned 20, so "Bravo", sincerely . - Forgive the spelling and grammatical mistakes :3 - PS: Ton français est excellent ;)
As you spoke german you misspronounced 'Monaten' ( Months ) and i understood Monden ( Moons ) Which i thought was kind of cute. ' i ve been learning German for many moons now ' a really old timeunit you used there! :D
Ya tiene el Francés y el Italiano (el resto ni te cuento ya ves...) o sea que en 2 días aprende Castellano (y de paso le metemos Valenciano, Eskerra y toa' la pesca jajajaja !)
+Joey Clough he said his grandparents speak Yiddish, which he said is kind of a dialect of German, so he already knew a lot before starting to study it.
He only started learning Hausa, self-taught, three months ago and he's already speaking off head?? WTF??!! What techniques are you using to study??? I'm still trying to learn Spanish for work??? Plus I'd later like to learn my parents language (Igbo).
+DonCapoeira I think the feedback he gets from posting RUclips videos is probably very helpful. Live skype chats with native speakers often help, and there are websites like Lag-8.com to help you with improving the written aspect of your target language. Basically, if you want to speak "off the top of your head" then you need to practice, practice, practice. That way you get used to using words/phrases in speech and your brain is easily able to draw on these and string together to use them again (in different orders to create different meanings). So yeah. PRACTICE ~~
+DonCapoeira Hausa IS one of the easiest Nigerian languages to pic up. I'm just impressed because to this day I've never come across proper resources that teach you Hausa properly, just a great bunch of books in Hausa that even I struggle with sometimes hahaha! So I forgive him for the pronunciation :P I'm really just mostly impressed :D
Amy Lu He cannot speak all those languages fluently. Of course he's a genius, but have some critical sense - And language is his passion and he studies it day in and day out. It's not impossible to get to his level
Gosh, you probably won't read this because this video is kind of old. Any who I am Dutch. I moved to America and back when I was around the age of 12. I love different cultures and languages but school kind of put me off of it because of the way it's taught. I saw your ted talk and felt the same way about knowing some words but not being able to hold a conversation with someone which is frustrating. Gosh I'm such a rambler, if you need someone to practice Nederlands with I'd love to help maybe you could help me a bit with my French which I'd love to learn but is dreadful right now. Also I'd be really interested in your different ways for learning languages and keeping them apart. Ik vind het super gaaf dat je zo veel talen kan en heb echt wel respect voor je motivatie om zo veel talen te leren. Je Nederlands is goed voor een Amerikaan maar je accent kan nog wat werk gebruiken. Let me know if you'd like some guidance with your Dutch (or anyone else for that matter) Groetjes uit dit kikkerlandje.
Âlo, parle Neérlandais avec moi, s'il vous plait! :D Nee grapje hoor, ich kann auch Niederländisch sprechen aber ich spreche jetzt Deutsch! But pretty interesting story, you've told there! :D Et, ne dis pas, que pas de personnes va lire, car j'ai lu ce! :D
+Naomi le Loux I know Italian, English, Dutch, French, Spanish, and a little German. Originally from Italy, grew up in Flanders (Belgium), my mother is South African, learn Italian and English in Italy with my parents, obviously Italian was stronger, then at age 3 moved to Belgium where I learnt Dutch from kindergaten, then moved into the English section where I studied and strengthened it, then at age 6 French and age 14 Spanish in the European School system, and German kind of came along since it's similar to Dutch, but never spoke it or learnt it with others, but know a bit :) Now I live in the U.S. and don't need to speak anything except English and I'm trying to hold on to the others :( reading, watching TV, films, practicing with other foreigners or learners even if we could technically just speak English :/ it's tough, maar als je nederlands of iets anders will praaten, msg me!
Your german is really good!! Just a few things: "Ich will auch auf Deutsch unterhalten" means "I also want do amuse in german" you need an Akkusativ (and a Dativ) Objekt so it's "Ich will *mich* auch auf Deutsch *mit euch* unterhalten" the phrase for "not as hard as" is "nicht *so* schwer *wie*" (but even some native speakers mix up "wie" and "als" This is in no way meant to be offensive! I think the accuracy with which you can mimic a language's sounds and subtones as well as pronounce words with letters that don't even remotely exist in english is extraordinary! I just saw that people commented suggestions for improvement on some of your other videos so I figured I'd point out two minor mistakes I noticed.. Great work, truly stunning!!
Wow, you amazes me!!! Tim, you were so young back then. You're an outstanding polyglot and I know you're 26 or 27 right now. At the age of 16 I didn't know any language except Spanish and English, but at that age my English level was totally low and now it's intermediate. So now I want to learn more languages.Too bad you don't speak Spanish because it's also a living language and it is as important as English worldwide.
My native languages are ukrainian and russian, I know polish , hebrew, a little bit english, also I want to study arabic, turkish, german, spanish. And to improve my English
That accent was very heavy when you spoke turkish. Try to use the front of your mouth more than the back, and don't pronounce the a as in 'accent', but as an 'ah'. Try to sound a bit less harsh because turkish never uses guttural sounds, except in some villages but that's more of a dialect than standard turkish.
loli rae he should definitely change HIM and try any other arabic nationality for a teacher . Egyptians aren't the best native arabic speakers, actually up to 80% of the letters are pronounced wrong in the Egyptian accent, if compared to other arabian countries .
Weird Username yeah some egyptien, and some iraqi or jordani accent ! Not fosha or the written arabic, which I believe is not very helpfull in everyday concversations !
Dont know bout the other languages, but how in hell did you learned so well german in freaking 8 weeks!!! respect, but yeah if you want to add another language i think you should consider spanish.
Turn on the autogenerated subtitles (probably the second time you watch the video), that's kind of endearing to see the speech recognition model struggle.
I think he only learns the languages he's interested in. So I'm guessing Spanish doesn't really interest or challenge him the way he wants when he learns a language. I mean...he didn't learn many other languages which would've been muuchh easier.
Kid. You're goddamn amazing. Seriously, nothing but respect and amazement from me. Your French is very very good, and you have almost no accent, if you spoke a bit slower no one would know you're not a native speaker. Amazing. As for your Italian, don't exaggerate the vowels so much. It's something I had to learn after I was told I spoke like a cartoon gangster by an a few italian friends. Again... simply amazing what you're doing, keep it up, good luck, and I'll be subscribing for sure.
caraca cara, que foda mano kkkkkk' Nunca esperaria ver um espanhol que foi pra portugal e sabe grego kkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk. mds do céu. Btw, I'm from brazil and speak 3 languages on a good level - english fluently, german b1/b2 and portuguese obviously as my mother tongue. I recently started to learn finnish, and I hope I'll be a polyglot some day
the Arabic part that he spoke is not actually Arabic that is written in books or taught in schools or spoken in new anchors, this is the Egyptian Arabic accent, where it differs a looooot from Arabic. actually every Arab country has its own language (i am saying language and not accent because words differs a lot from official Arabic, not just the sound) of speaking, that me as a Lebanese i can't understand what some other Arab countries are saying :)
LoL, What the hell you talking??? Arab they don't have different languages!! The only different is the accents, and that's not pig problem, if you can't understand other accents you can speak with any one by the Arab natives language, and that is enough understandable
ibrahim diiriye Nope , some "dialects" are pretty different from Arabic , like tunisian . For example : Dhahaba Ahmadon ila lmadrasati In Tunisian it will be : Msha Ahmd ll Maktb Pretty different hein ?
DoomGUY7 i understand your point , even me most of the time i used the accent and there's different dialect from one country to another like english language for example: the people living in liverpoole they use different accent from those they living in texas but that dosen't mean they speaking different language
Dude, when you don't know you shut up Every arabic country has his own dialect, I, as a lebanese, can't understand people form Moroco or Algeria. The Arab that unites us is only used in school or in books. Some dialects are clearly a different language, like people from Tunisia speak 2 langauge, the tunisian dialect (That i cant understand for shit) and the arab they learned in school. Levantine dialect is very close to the written arabic but it still sounds weird when i hear it.
+Imagine Dragons Middle East I am Turkish, but I was assuming he was Kurd, because he knows Turkish and Kurdish. I was not trying to offend anyone kurdish brother
+Simmer Princess As a Korean I will say that Korean is a difficult language, but one way you can learn some words is by watching KDramas with English subtitles. It should help!
Nah don't feel stupid.. this guy was born with natural abilities to learn such languages in such pissy amounts of time, he would also put in a lot of hard work but he's learning several languages at the same time and after 3 months or less he can rather easily speak in all of them. That's not typical lol. Definitely don't compare your abilities to someone like that. Sure is amazing though. Goodluck with your Korean. Learning one language later in life is very difficult. Edit: I'm muting this thread now, so no more replies from me.
+Simmer Princess You're not stupid, you just need more practice :) Have a look at our free app and meet some Korean friends to help you get to the next level! :D Keep it up girl, you can do it! -- Ramon @ Hello Pal Hong Kong.
Vanessa Andrade Vanessa Andrade Dutch is harder since the pronunciations and grammar is really hard. Portugese is very similar to Spanish and Spanish itself is one of the easiest languages to learn.
Don't get discouraged guys, he speaks 6 languages nowdays, how do i know this? Because he himself said it at a composium even though he still reads in those same languages but can't speak them. I think his method is not a method. It's just motivation. He got really interested in many languages. He just gets exposure to the languaged by reading, speaking or listening. if he goes to courses i assume it's because he didn't find many sources to learn some languages from. But i'm really impressed by his ability, i think there aren't many people who can speak 20 languages and flaunt his abilities. Tim doner, truely an insipration
Being an Indian, and having lived in the Middle East all my life, I can confirm that he knows and speaks arabic way better than I ever can. His accent is brilliant. Sounded exactly like an Omani. Then again, I've been only to Oman, the UAE, Qatar and Kuwait, so they're more or less similar.
Nice job, I found it kinda funny how neither spanish nor japanese was included, not in a bad way just intersteing since they are more popular than many in this vid but awesome job!
Not bad, not bad at all. From the languages I can speak (7 if you count english) his russian and hebrew need some solid work, for example he says "3 years ago" in hebrew he says "Lifney shlosha shanim" when it should be "Lifney shalosh shanim" as "shanim" (years) is a female noun and thus uses the female numeral, if he wanted to say "3 months ago" (month=Hodesh, which is a male noun) then he would say "Lifney shlosha hodashim". Either way, it's absolutely incredible that he's even able to speak all these languages! Kudos!
Blitzbanmagarin yeah, it is in finno-ugric branch, so it it pretty hard if you don't know Hungarian, Estonian or Turkish. Those languages play with words instead of adding new words to sentence. Turkish example: gitmek : to go gittim: I went gidiyorum: I am going gideceğim: I will go giderim: I go gidiyordum: I was going giderdim: I used to go gidebilirdim: I could have gone, but I didn't . (LOL) gitmeliydim: I should have gone but I didn't gittin: you went gidersin: you go gideceksin: you will go gitmelisin: you have to go gidiyorsun: you are going gitmeliydin: you should have gone gittin: you went gitme: don't go gitmemelisin: you shouldn't go gitmemeliydin: you shouldn't have gone gitmedim: I didn't go gitmemeliydim: I shouldn't have gone. gitseymişim: I wish I've gone gitmeseymişim: I wish I've not gone ... .. .
Blitzbanmagarin Not really, because there is nearly no exceptions for other verbs. For example: to play : oynamak oynarım: I play oynadım: I played to eat : yemek yerim: I eat yedim: I ate. it is pretty simple when you got the concept! I am learning Spanish right know and I hate those verbs omg :D
Ali Budak oh God my spanish was like the worst in the world. I had a few spanish lessons back in highschool, i failed every single exam of it. So I chose German instead.
In my opinion his German is really good. I think the grammar is not that easy. Of course, as everyone who isn't a native speaker, he has a little accent, but really just a small one. Sounds almost a bit like a French accent and that's quite funny because there's something like a typical accent for Americans who try to speak English but his really sounds a bit French :D
Shisuka (annichan1999) I'd say his German was good but as both you and him have said, the grammar is hard and you can pick up small points like his dative cases not being right. Also his pronunciation of umlauts - i'm guessing because of his accent - makes it hard to distinguish between certain words. To be honest though the amount of languages will just open so many doors for him in the future and I wish I could become as au fait with all these languages.
Leszek Trybała He showed the book Al-Kitaab fii Ta’allum al-’Arabiyya part 2. As far as I know the videos on DVD show egyptian speakers a lot :-). Nevermind because the way he speaks derives from his teachers. Classical arabic is taught mainly at the universities (aka quran arabic),well it is good to know how to write and speak properly academically but normal people learn spoken arabic (MSA, Al-Yazeera arabic) or very likely the spoken arabic of the teacher s home country (levantine, egyptian, gulf...) :-). Anyway good job, nice video.
My dream is to speak 10 languages : Dutch, Spanish, Japanese, Romanian, Indonesian, Czech and Arabic. I already speak 3 languages so I hope I will reach this goal one day !
That's a good mix of languages ! I am also going to start learning Japanese when I will have time. Right now I am focusing mainly on Spanish and Dutch =)
Wow, and here i am, happy i know 4 languages... Dutch (main) French German English You sir are amazing, man would i want to speak every single language. would be awesome, especially Japanese looks cool.
I speak fluently Dutch (mother tongue), Esperanto, English, German (in order of knowledge and fluency). I am less fluently in Afrikaans, Ido and Interlingua (I know three artificial languages). I can reed French pretty well. I have some clue of Spanish and Italian. So English is my third language of knowledge. I read Cyrillic alphabet fluently. I can recognize the actual language from a Cyrillic writing. For example Russian, Belorusian, Ukrainian have different alphabets, although these languages use Cyrillic. I made some attempts to make artificial languages myself, just for fun, so without a real purpose such as easening international communication between people with different mother tongues (Esperanto, Ido and Interlingua do have this purpose, though).
I speak English. Je parle le français. Hablo español. Ma räägin eesti keelt. Я говорию по-русский. Ich spreche Deutsch. I speak English, French, German, Spanish, Russian and Estonian. I speak them all to different levels, but I am only 14, and can get by in all of them.

+Angela Le I feel you. That was like one of the major reasons I started learning Japanese myself - so I wouldn't have to read subtitles while watching anime!
The thing that gets me every single time I see this video, is how you developed different phonatory articulations for similar consonants, according to the language they are pronounced in: it's almost as if you developed a different, unique voiceprint; and as if you had a different personality for each language you're speaking. Truly amazing. (btw, if you also speak Latin it's 21 languages, not 20! Looking forward to listening you speaking Latin too, then!)

Its interesting seeing how his voice lowers or raises depending on the language
Curlygirl Waiting Yeah it's weird how some languages also depend on vocal tonality
agreed its interest
He said he even picks a personality standard when speaking a language to help memorize and separate. Could be partly why, but like De Castelle said, intonation is important when pronouncing a lot of words in a language. Not even anything necessarily to do with dialect.
adding on to the previous comment- it would make sense that he has a "different personality" with each language because when you learn a language, you are resetting your mind.

somebody else notice how the tone of his voice changes with every language ?? i find that sooo interesting, russian was really deep for example and farsi on the other hand sounded nasal .. crazy but so cool
jere mire different languages depend on vocal tonality, also he developed the accents in those languages
His pronunciation & sentences weren't great %100 in Turkish as well. But I still understood him anyways.
You sounded very german even though there were some wrong words ( I respect you for learning the german pronunciation within 8 weeks xD)
I'm also amazed from the other languages but since I can only speak german and englisch, a little bit french and understand italian, I can't judge them. :D But I'm sure they're as good or better as your german.
Im Dutch and I've been learning German for 3 years and I can barely say one good sentence xD

As a German I understand a lot when a Dutch person is talking.
Sharona van AndelHelen Koleh Ok, then I will try my best in order to learn the Dutch grammar :)
Lazy Person's guide to learn a foreign language extremely fast.
1. Memorise the 1000 most common words
Fuck books and lessons.
bad idea?
why is it a bad idea?
Kochos why is it a good idea. if you do it like you said you wont learn the language at all. important things like grammar or pronounciation cant be learned by watching movies. if you want speak a language you have to do it by you self. listening to other people is not enough
Drogaddos Check this out. How do young kids become fluent by the time they turn 3 or 4? Do they know how to write or read? Have they ever studied their language? And what do you mean when you say that I need to listen to other people speaking? Most of the times human actors play in the movies not animals.
That's awesome!!!
@Rule Britannia Navajo is almost impossible hahaha
Wish you a happy time at the age of 73!

it's crazy how your voice changes completely when you change language!

Good luck ^^
(Please do correct my English if there are any mistakes, I'm still learning ^^)
P.S. You already deserve an award for using the subjunctive at the end, most Italians don't even know what that is xD
Chiara SB If you study Italian overseas, you generally do get taught the subjunctive. I got taught it 9th year in my 10 years of learning the language. I can definitely see why Italians generally don't use it. Feels like the passato remoto >
Chiara SB Grande, non avevo visto il tuo commento prima di scrivere. Ha l'accento che gli americani usano per prendere in giro gli italiani, vero? XD
Marco Ronchetti é vero, ma credo sia piuttosto normale, tutti tendono a stereotipare gli accenti altrui xD

He has done a lot of hard work on the previous languages. So, it's no surprise that with each language is more common with the other one.
You're right. I know Spanish, German, English, and a little French (currently working on that); and you start to see similarities with words in other languages.
I love how you change your accent on every language that’s we are supposed to do but some of us just stay with our accent on the languages we learn and accent/pronunciation is so important
Why no spanish, its very easy language to learn, similar to english.
And Spanish is not that easy, if you think so then you have never heard of the eternal struggle to learn and dominate the subjunctive.
maybe he's a RACIST!! haha I'm just kidding.
Ab Sáyago Spanish is like the easiest after english compared to the other languages......

Arabic is my Native language it's hard and we continue to learn forever :D because every word has different meanings with slight difference (example hijab means "head veil , barrier between things (hijab hajiz = the Diaphragm as it seperates between heart & lungs) , cover ( hajab el shams = blocked the sun) , a lucky charm , a hideout "
depending on how it's used in contex .. however this diversity allows you to explain your exact meaning
Watch movies/dramas , and try to dedicate time on self-learning :)
Yes Hamood I know Arabic very well that's why I have an accent in English french

I'm italian and I noticed that most of italian people who comments this video doesn't encourage him but was only able to say "your italian sucks" ( Il tuo italiano fa schifo et similar ), then I noticed that a lot of people of other country said him he makes a few mistakes on their own language then trying to correct him with advide ( most of them are Dutch that say he sound like German, or Arabic )
Porco dio sa comunicare in 20 lingue diverse e giudicate negativamente? Faccio notare che dice "practicing 20 languages" e non "I know 20 languages like people of the country who speak that language"
It's because he said Italian was easy and he preferred harder languages, probably Italians got pissed off
credo che nessuno di quelli che ti ha messo mi piace sappia del bestemmione dentro al commento :-) Eccoun altro motivo per imparare le lingue
haha exactly !!
the boy is cold! that's dang good, whether he sound normal in your language or not! that's fantastic. come on, stop the hate.
Lmao its not hate theyre suggestions on how he can get better at them
I can’t believe he can speak 20 languages that’s a true gift but of course it takes a lot of dedication to learn.
ITALIA CIAO BELLO
Your Hindi was surprisingly good but the accent was lacking that final touch. If you want to be more fluent in it then you gotta do quite some work on areas like correct pronunciation and continuous flow. But other than that hats off man #respect
Jeremy Venice dont forget the head nodding !
I'd agree, when you said "main" (मैं) it's pronounced closer to saying the word "meh" slowly
A little distance from Arabic accent and a little more Hindi songs might do it :D
The accent was too Arabic and Portuguese for speaking Hindi, but great job anyway!
That was... amazing . I couldn't believe my ears and I sincerely cried when you started the 11th language, you are really, really, really talented, you speak these languages with so much ease and in such a short time of learning; that's awesome and I wish I could learn as fast as you do. I love foreign languages, and for example I'm studying russian on my own, with only a little book and I feel like a piece of junk when I hear you, because I started 5 months ago, and all that I can say is "Privièt, Ia frantsoujènka" T----T
So you have all my congratulations because I know very well that learning another language is hard, and you have learned 20, so "Bravo", sincerely .
- Forgive the spelling and grammatical mistakes :3 -
PS: Ton français est excellent ;)
Ton?
Anthony Alvarado It's the french word for "your" ;)
ah, très bien!
TheMuse3D or rather, the "you" in possessive form that precedes a singular, masculine noun.
TheMuse3D
ton is 'got' no 'your'
As you spoke german you misspronounced 'Monaten' ( Months ) and i understood Monden ( Moons )
Which i thought was kind of cute.
' i ve been learning German for many moons now ' a really old timeunit you used there! :D
You speak many languages but you forgot spanish, that is the most important in the list.
Ya tiene el Francés y el Italiano (el resto ni te cuento ya ves...) o sea que en 2 días aprende Castellano (y de paso le metemos Valenciano, Eskerra y toa' la pesca jajajaja !)
Johanna Taggart A lo mejor le fascina el Eskerra ya que le gustan los idiomas complicados !
I suppose all languages are important but perhaps Spanish is so widely spoken and not as rare, maybe that's he left it out.
Ur Correct MrCarlosYT
At least he spoke english lol
Wow really nice German in all honesty I'm very impressed you're able to use proper endings with little thought which is amazing
Ok, aber für etwa 8wochen?
+Joey Clough Ja,das ist unglaublich.
+Joey Clough lol ich kann nur ein bisschen deutsch aber, ich mochte mehr lernen... ist dass recht?
+Joey Clough he said his grandparents speak Yiddish, which he said is kind of a dialect of German, so he already knew a lot before starting to study it.
I am not a native german speaker but his grammar is not correct, but at the end of the day I"m impressed anyway.
I've been learning German in school for four years now, and I can still only say basic things.
the world feels so small to him👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
He only started learning Hausa, self-taught, three months ago and he's already speaking off head??
So yeah. PRACTICE ~~
+DonCapoeira He also is a hyperpolyglot, that helps a bit :p
+DonCapoeira Hausa IS one of the easiest Nigerian languages to pic up. I'm just impressed because to this day I've never come across proper resources that teach you Hausa properly, just a great bunch of books in Hausa that even I struggle with sometimes hahaha! So I forgive him for the pronunciation :P I'm really just mostly impressed :D
+DonCapoeira
He's speaking some scripted sentences. Of course he cannot speak it with fluency
Amy Lu
He cannot speak all those languages fluently.
+Naomi le Loux hello mede nederlands sprekende :D
HALLO NEDERLANDER I FROM USA
Your german is really good!! Just a few things:
"Ich will auch auf Deutsch unterhalten" means "I also want do amuse in german" you need an Akkusativ (and a Dativ) Objekt so it's "Ich will *mich* auch auf Deutsch *mit euch* unterhalten"
the phrase for "not as hard as" is "nicht *so* schwer *wie*" (but even some native speakers mix up "wie" and "als"
This is in no way meant to be offensive!
I feel ashamed to only speak 4-5 languages and just a bit Japanese.
I only speak 6, nothing compared to him xD
Haha, and I'm sitting here struggling with my 3rd and 4th language.
I feel stupid :(
I speak only 3, and I speak the third one really badly... I feel you :(
I speak 4 , russian , german , french and romanian ( my native language)
My native languages are ukrainian and russian, I know polish , hebrew, a little bit english, also I want to study arabic, turkish, german, spanish. And to improve my English
You've inspired me to get my Italian back up to speed and learn another language (at least one more). The world needs more people like you.
That accent was very heavy when you spoke turkish. Try to use the front of your mouth more than the back, and don't pronounce the a as in 'accent', but as an 'ah'. Try to sound a bit less harsh because turkish never uses guttural sounds, except in some villages but that's more of a dialect than standard turkish.
most of your Arabic is actually Egyptian accent ..
and believe me it is the best spoken Arabic from a non-Arabian i've ever heard
Yeah it's all about egyptian I think it's because of his teacher he should change it because he wants to learn arabic "3arabia fous7a"
yeah he should be learning plain arabic, like egyptian accent is too far from the plain arabic.....
loli rae he should definitely change HIM and try any other arabic nationality for a teacher .
Egyptians aren't the best native arabic speakers, actually
up to 80% of the letters are pronounced wrong in the Egyptian accent, if compared to other arabian countries .
He was talking little Egyptian and a little plain arabic with a little Iraqi accent .. He was AWESOME =D
.
Dude, you nailed Arabic too, but you've gotten 3 different Arabic accents together lol, WELL DONE.
It's not really ' Arabic '
Mahmoud A. Izaks Yeah! some words he said were so egyptian
Weird Username yeah some egyptien, and some iraqi or jordani accent !
Not fosha or the written arabic, which I believe is not very helpfull in everyday concversations !
Mahmoud A. Izaks at least has learnt something :D
Mahmoud A. Izaks To me, it mostly sounded Egyptian in words and expressions. But I am not a native speaker anyway ...
Dont know bout the other languages, but how in hell did you learned so well german in freaking 8 weeks!!! respect, but yeah if you want to add another language i think you should consider spanish.
I''ve been studying German since almost a year and he speaks so freaking good (!!!!!) :/ But anyway I'll go ahead, GO LANGUAGES
Turn on the autogenerated subtitles (probably the second time you watch the video), that's kind of endearing to see the speech recognition model struggle.
You don't learn spanish but you learn Hausa Wolof Pashto Farsi Xhosa Ojibwe *genius* I didn't know that those languages exist, I mean WTF
Lo mismo aqui, I had no idea those language exist
Si, a mi tambien
I feel insulted
***** i mean he totally studied so many languages to please all of us who speak some different language /s
I think he only learns the languages he's interested in. So I'm guessing Spanish doesn't really interest or challenge him the way he wants when he learns a language. I mean...he didn't learn many other languages which would've been muuchh easier.
I've watched a lot of video where many polyglots from lots of countries speak different languages but still you are the best in the world!!!!
Again... simply amazing what you're doing, keep it up, good luck, and I'll be subscribing for sure.
haha the '' cartoon gangster '' keeps me laughing for good 5 mins * ahem *
imagine me when they TOLD me that xD
Tim, you were my inspiration for starting to learn languages and every time I need inspiration I come back to this video. Incredible!
I speak three languages that you don't speak !
Portuguese, Spanish and Greek
Three wonderful languages
Maria Bello Ikr, do you speak any of those ?
Joaquín Jiménez Donde eres usted ?
Joaquín Jiménez Yo nací en España pero vivo en Portugal
caraca cara, que foda mano kkkkkk' Nunca esperaria ver um espanhol que foi pra portugal e sabe grego kkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk.
I think he wasn't only speak Egyptian it was a mix of all the Arabic accents
ibrahim diiriye Nope , some "dialects" are pretty different from Arabic , like tunisian . For example :
Dhahaba Ahmadon ila lmadrasati
In Tunisian it will be :
Msha Ahmd ll Maktb
Pretty different hein ?
DoomGUY7
i understand your point , even me most of the time i used the accent and there's different dialect from one country to another like english language for example: the people living in liverpoole they use different accent from those they living in texas but that dosen't mean they speaking different language
Dude, when you don't know you shut up
Every arabic country has his own dialect, I, as a lebanese, can't understand people form Moroco or Algeria.
It's so funny hearing your voice change between languages😂 but keep it up buddy, I speak 4 languages: English, Arabic, French, Turkish and some Dutch
+Ghadier Mohammed Right! I always find that not only my voice, but also my personality changes (to an extent) whenever I speak in a foreign language.
let me guess, you are Kurd, living in French speaking part of Belgium??
+Imagine Dragons Middle East I am Turkish, but I was assuming he was Kurd, because he knows Turkish and Kurdish. I was not trying to offend anyone kurdish brother
Osman Yasar I'm Iraqi
ghadier i speak Arabic french and english too and i would like to practice turkish:D 😊 can we practice?
For Italian you said "como" it's *come
That epic moment that 2 years of studying chinese helped me understand your mandarin without looking at subtitles.
YEAAAHHH
Seen him on youtube when i first started learning chinese.
I found him the other day.
I feel so stupid now.I'm having some big trouble with my Korean.
+Simmer Princess As a Korean I will say that Korean is a difficult language, but one way you can learn some words is by watching KDramas with English subtitles. It should help!
+Yoori Jhang 감사합니다,한국어 진짜 어렵고요,항상 햇갈렸는데,앞으로 꼭 열심히 하려구요,yoori 의 의견은 저한테 도음이 많이 됐어요
Woah you're good! Keep practicing and you'll surely become fluent!
I'm currently learning Spanish, Portuguese, and Dutch. I find this really inspirational and interesting ❤👌🏻
Vanessa Andrade its one of the easiest. Do you mean Polish?
Tim doner, truely an insipration
when you talked in arabic it really sounded like a real Iraqi person i applaud you respect really learning languages is very useful
megan ha are you crazy?! he sounded absolutely Egyptian. not even close to Iraqi
NEMESIS20jordan you are right some of it is Egyptian
Being an Indian, and having lived in the Middle East all my life, I can confirm that he knows and speaks arabic way better than I ever can. His accent is brilliant. Sounded exactly like an Omani. Then again, I've been only to Oman, the UAE, Qatar and Kuwait, so they're more or less similar.
yeah his accent was more egyptian than iraqish
not really but yes he talked in egyptian accent a liitle bit but not all
Nice job, I found it kinda funny how neither spanish nor japanese was included, not in a bad way just intersteing since they are more popular than many in this vid but awesome job!
Kudos!
You speak Arabic very well.... unbelievable 😃
بتتكلم عربي كويس
Let's see how long it takes him to get decent in Finnish.
uhmm...sorry for the nooby question, but whats wrong with Finnish? Is it hard?
Blitzbanmagarin yeah, it is in finno-ugric branch, so it it pretty hard if you don't know Hungarian, Estonian or Turkish.
Those languages play with words instead of adding new words to sentence. Turkish example:
gitmek : to go
gittim: I went
gidiyorum: I am going
gideceğim: I will go
giderim: I go
gidiyordum: I was going
giderdim: I used to go
gidebilirdim: I could have gone, but I didn't . (LOL)
gitmeliydim: I should have gone but I didn't
gittin: you went
gidersin: you go
gideceksin: you will go
gitmelisin: you have to go
gidiyorsun: you are going
gitmeliydin: you should have gone
gittin: you went
gitme: don't go
gitmemelisin: you shouldn't go
gitmemeliydin: you shouldn't have gone
gitmedim: I didn't go
gitmemeliydim: I shouldn't have gone.
gitseymişim: I wish I've gone
gitmeseymişim: I wish I've not gone
...
..
.
Ali Budak
oh whoah, that would take me like 7-8 years to learn haha. Because im dumb, it took me like 3 years to be decent at Deutsche XD
Blitzbanmagarin Not really, because there is nearly no exceptions for other verbs. For example:
to play : oynamak
oynarım: I play
oynadım: I played
to eat : yemek
yerim: I eat
yedim: I ate.
it is pretty simple when you got the concept! I am learning Spanish right know and I hate those verbs omg :D
Ali Budak
oh God my spanish was like the worst in the world. I had a few spanish lessons back in highschool, i failed every single exam of it. So I chose German instead.
How the fuck does he talk German better than me and i'm from Germany.
I call it the "shit-happens-Syndrom" x3
I'm Arab and he speaks Arabic miles better than me
In my opinion his German is really good. I think the grammar is not that easy. Of course, as everyone who isn't a native speaker, he has a little accent, but really just a small one. Sounds almost a bit like a French accent and that's quite funny because there's something like a typical accent for Americans who try to speak English but his really sounds a bit French :D
Who try to speak German* sorry
Shisuka (annichan1999) I'd say his German was good but as both you and him have said, the grammar is hard and you can pick up small points like his dative cases not being right. Also his pronunciation of umlauts - i'm guessing because of his accent - makes it hard to distinguish between certain words. To be honest though the amount of languages will just open so many doors for him in the future and I wish I could become as au fait with all these languages.
I feel inadequate as an intelligent human being after watching this. Man I need to learn more languages
as an egyptian, i found his arabic really well. especially his pronunciation.
I speak Arabic, English, French and Spanish. I think your Arabic is good but it seems more Egyptian than classical Arabic. Very good Job!
I think he was learning Egyptian Arabic firstly..I am not sure though...
Leszek Trybała
He showed the book Al-Kitaab fii Ta’allum al-’Arabiyya part 2.
Right now i am fluent in English, Maybe 50% fluent in Swedish, and decided to get serious with Spanish yesterday. I'm 14 :)
hejmeli Ánimo con el español :D
Larisa *hayas parado
the same :)but im learnig 10 languanges and 5 of them i start speak intermediate😍
hejmeli wait i forgot
Hur går det med svenskan? :)
My dream is to speak 10 languages : Dutch, Spanish, Japanese, Romanian, Indonesian, Czech and Arabic. I already speak 3 languages so I hope I will reach this goal one day !
can you speak indonesian rn?
Nope just learning it :P I speak French, English and German
+Cosmo Aero V2 same! i'm studying french and german too! also russian and arabic (and i kinda japanese)
That's a good mix of languages ! I am also going to start learning Japanese when I will have time. Right now I am focusing mainly on Spanish and Dutch =)
Cosmo Aero V2 how are you learning? and why those languages?
You're the one who pushed me into this amazing languages world.. got so inspired
Wow, and here i am, happy i know 4 languages...
Dutch (main)
French
German
English
You sir are amazing, man would i want to speak every single language. would be awesome, especially Japanese looks cool.
I speak Dutch German Russian Korean Afrikaans Hebrew and English :) I am only 14
Zen Jasper and im 14 speaking english and french wow u guys r ridiculouse
Zen Jasper
That's a gift!!
I speak them all to different levels, but I am only 14, and can get by in all of them.
youre so amazing. for indonesian language, when you pronounce "t" sounds more like indian. you will master it in no time if you spend some time here. salute!
He's adorable, isn't he??
Tbh I just want to learn japanese so I don't have to read the subs when I watch Naruto.
+Angela Le Naruto is like the worst anime out there, if you want to learn Japanese at least do it for a good anime like AnoHana or Clannad or whatever, but not Naruto, please!
Listen Clannad is not that good. Naruto is a masterpiece compared to whatever anime you were saying. No disrespect just the truth.
Angela Le Well, our tastes are polar opposites then... The only point I'll give to Naruto is that it has some awesome musics...
+Angela Le I feel you. That was like one of the major reasons I started learning Japanese myself - so I wouldn't have to read subtitles while watching anime!
+Angela Le well im doing the same for some other reason i mean anime is part of the reason but not only because naruto so i mean any other anime
•••
