To the commentator (can't think of his exact name) Bill might be in the top 5 in his opinion..and maybe he is, 2x NBA Champ (77, 86), NBA finals MVP (77)...Reg Season MVP (78) not to mention leading the league in rebounds and blocks in the same year lol..and 2x NCAA champion. Is just that Dr. Jay outplayed him by a mile in those finals but just didn't have a good enough team around him like Walton. And that ring in 86 was Walton warming the bench in Boston! But I do see your point which is that he may be great to the commentator(s). Is just that when I think of top player or even top centers, there were so many better than Walton!
Actually that's not true. Dr. J had a stacked team in that Finals against Bill. In fact Dr. J's team were the favorite to win the series. If you look at every documentary about that Blazers championship team you will hear everyone to even Dr. J admitting that his team was the more talented team. When the Blazers beat the 76ers that year it was the equivalent to Miami losing to Dallas in 2011.
As for the ring in 86, just go watch the 30 for 30 documentary of the Lakers and Celtics rivalry. Bird says the 86 team is the best team he has ever been on and one of the main reasons he credits that team for being so good is because of Walton. Walton's I.Q. was off the charts which is why most basketball experts regard him so high.
