Her discussing her social standing simply illustrates that being in Germany for 700 years, being rich or being an officer in WW1 didn’t help once Hitler took over. There is a lesson for us. Discrimination, division and control of the press and the government can lead to horrors for the elite as well as us “ regular “ citizens.

These people are exactly what a society needs to be successful. Sometimes I feel that this was never about building a master race or a German empire, rather this was always a suicide mission that was designed to make as many casualties as possible.

That's wonderful that you were interested and wanted to hear about her life and what she went through during the war. My parents were born in 1917 and 1918, and ked a very exciting, but sometimes difficult life. My dad joined the Navy and served during WWII. I loved their stories. They traveled across the US twice, once in a convertible, and once on a Harley. But they were very down to earth, and worked very hard their whole lives. I grew up on a farm where we all worked from planting to harvest. It was great fun playing and having so much room to roam. I wouldn't change it for anything, although I envied the kids in town who got to go to the pool every day in summer. 🙂

@@darladawn1111 Yes, and why would anyone agree!? But I've seen lots of such hatred in the comments on RUclips, usually appearing in regard to movie channels & classical music channels--videos having nothing to do with subjects such as this one. Anyone who thinks ethnic hatred is a thing of the past need only look in the comments on RUclips to see how widespread such hatred is. Often the commenter repeats the propaganda used by the Nazis to inflame racism, including the conspiracy theory re: world bankers' total control of the economy & western nations' government ('shadow' gov.).
Essentially the same propaganda espoused by Hitler & other such fascists throughout the last century.
It's amazing & terrifying to see how openly such hatred is stated online, & it seems to have increased in the last few years.
I greatly admire the courage of holocaust survivors to speak publicly of their experiences, as the normal reaction to such trauma is to repress it as much as possible because to think or speak of it causes such pain. The few holocaust survivors I've known were unable to speak of it even to their own families. Fortunately, a few have been able to speak publicly, warning how this horror came about, lest it happen again.
