When you know someone well, you know how they text, so it’s easy to understand their tone and what they mean, etc. But with strangers and acquaintances it’s an extremely delicate balance! Discussing this is a huge passion of mine lol
They perfectly capture the awkwardness of online dating... from "knowing it's not going to work out' but "making out anyway" to the creepy following on instagram or facebook prematurely, to the passive aggression when a plan "just doesn't work out." I have a theory. We are all good people, but online dating causes too many misunderstandings and it's better meeting in a genuine and authentic way. I don't miss how the misunderstandings with a total stranger would ruin my day or how I would feel guilty for not wanting to continue to date someone who was into me, but I wasn't into them or being lead on by someone I liked because they didn't want to be honest and tell me they didn't feel the same. Too many mixed signals. Too many times you just "ghost" so you don't have to go through an awkward conversation to explain your incompatibility. I remember having conversations with people just because I felt bad or waiting to get a call back that never came. It's just too heart wrenching for sensitive people, I think.

I think it is actually very healthy to write direct and short messages instead wasting your time on your phone by creating nice smeilys and whatever - it is just that everyone is doing it ( including myself) so it can trigger other people insecurities when you are just straight forward ( misinterpretation happens anyway) maybe throw your phone away
