      I really like what Viktor does and wanted to try and do something similar from the UK. Hope you enjoy the videos, hopefully soon I’ll be back to posting one per week again with some actual fishing!

    I own the Legalis LT new and old, Exceler and the new Fuego CS. They are all perfectly smooth but just like you said, the handle knob slack is annoying. Even the Tatula LT has a bit of handle play but not noticeable on the water. My piscifun viper x has that gear feeling too just like the ranger. In 2022, Shimano still has no strong competition in sub $100 ultralight reels. Well, they've reduced the weight of 1000 size Sahara and Nasci to a 2500 Daiwa LT weight, which is still not superlight. Great review man!!

      Thanks for the great comment. I agree that it’s baffling why Shimano cannot produce a decent entry level spinning reel. The Nasci 500 I have is just the most pointless reel I have ever owned. It’s a shame as I really like my stradics/vanfords. The Fuego is a brilliant reel for the money. Daiwa really hit the ball out of the park with the Legalis family.

      Great review mate, I've got one of the Sedona reels which I use for float fishing in a bigger size, I agree not a great reel but I only paid £20 new so can't complain! They are a very similar shape to the brilliant Saragosa which I use all the time in Norway. One thing I do hate about the Sedona is the anti backwind on mine is tiny and a real pain when you are float fishing and hook a decent fish and want to give it some backwind you can never find the switch! 👍

    Take off the silver plastic piece on the handle of the daiwa, it just pulls off using a tiny screwdriver to pry it, that will expose a rivet. Take a thin punch and give it some whacks to tighten it, take care to protect the handle on the other side from scratching. Or just upgrade the handle, the issue lies with a few of these models that have rivets instead of bearings/bushings. Most of the daiwa reels can be heavily upgraded by simply replacing plastic bushings with bearings.

  • @davboston
    @davboston Год назад +4

    Entry level lol. The Shimano sienna is entry level. Here in us the Sedona is a $70 reel not 59. And everything after that more expensive.

      He's using Pounds, not US Dollars! Not everyone lives in America. Right now, US$70 is about 55 British Pounds.

    • @davboston
      @davboston 8 месяцев назад

      @@ricker76erwtf are you babbling about? It doesn’t matter where you live or what currency. Point is here it’s $70 and that’s not entry level. Any other place it’s going to sell for same or
      more money at the exchange rate. Entry level is $30-$40. Not my fault you live in a shitty country.

    You've probably figured it out by now, but the handle knob on the Legalis LT rides on plastic bushings which have a bit of play and creates the annoying noise, and is riveted on, so there's no removing it to upgrade to bearings or tighten it. However, if it's enough to completely turn you off, you can simply replace the handle with the one from the same sized Regal LT. The Regal uses the same hex-shaft handle, and has a removable handle knob (held on with a screw instead of riveted), and as a bonus already comes with 2 bearings in it so you don't need to further upgrade it, but if there is still any play it's easy to add a 0.1 thick shim washer on it. You'd have to track one down from a shop who carries Daiwa parts. PDF parts list for the Regal with the exact part number can be found on the Daiwa site.

    Appreciate the reviews. Lately, I’ve been team Daiwa for sub-$100 reels (my kids use my rods/reels, so no way I’m spending $300 on some reel).
    The Daiwa Legalis LT 1000 size is currently $65 on Amazon (I’m in the USA), with free shipping, which is like 51 British pounds. Daiwa also has an even smaller QZ 750 model for ultra light. MSRP is $59.99, but I see it online for $37.02 (through Walmart, free shipping). Do you have any experience with that reel?

    I’ve got plenty of reels, but never considered a Tsuranoya. I like that metallic sounding drag clicker,, it is so much more fun to hear a big fish peel drag

      The Ranger arrived the other day. Feels solid and operates smoothly for a reel of its size. Will spool up over the winter for trout in early spring.

    Many people who reviewed Ranger said that it feels that it probably lacks grease but no one actually tried to fix it. As a consumer i wouldn't want to buy a reel knowing that i'll have to put grease in it , at least because i don't own specialized grease :/

    • @thegoldenscalesclub
      @thegoldenscalesclub  Год назад +1

      You make a really good point. I’ve now opened up my Tsurinoya Ranger, Kingfisher and FS. They are all do contain a suitable volume of grease, I think the noise is just a quirk of the build quality. You certainly don’t need to add more grease.
      I will say that based on my experiences with reels from all major reel companies and CDM companies many reels do benefit from a bit of tweaking (even from new) to optimise their performance. Even if it’s just a case of a bit of extra grease/oil on drag washers.

    hi, are daiwa legalis 1000 lt and tsurinoya Ranger 1000 reel heads compatible with each other? Can they be used interchangeably? After all, they use the same pulley system.

      Yeah, but at the same time Shimano are too heavy for 2023/24 and for this price range. Miravel would be perfect rival for Daiwa Legalis/Exceler if it wasn't almost that expensive as Ultegra. It's just stupid.

    So your a diawa fan boy? The ranger is a diawa. Diawa makes alot of third party reals. The sedona is awesome. 😮 A Russian real? Traitor.
