As much as I hate to pay someone to work on my 944 if my transaxle needs internal work I’ll have to open the checkbook. However, the parts car is fair game for educational purposes. Great info. as always. Thanks!
@@EuropeanAutoCraftStudios sort of. It actually has a better body than my ‘89 but currently a non-runner so the drive train will be my educational project.
Wow, you really got into the guts of it, it is amazing to watch a master mechanic at work! I think I will have to practice on another transaxle before I ever touch the one that goes into the car. It looks so complicated! Thanks for sharing, I’ll have to see the whole process before I ever take a stab at it!
Hi Jeff, it's not so bad. We won't need to do a lot of the procedures that are outlined in the workshop manual. Since there isn't any carnage, we won't need to adjust anything. I will check things and do a complete shaft teardown and reassemble to show it all. I may be able to go through the ring and pinion set up procedures if I can gather all of the tools.
So much patience, I would have drank a 6 pack by now and shot of whiskey Thanks for video,,,,,I've been cleaning mine more often since watching Keep it up
Really appreciate the videos. You make it look almost DIYable. One day I may wish to tackle replacing syncros, but from my guess the next stage will involve presses and measurement which may be beyond the average man. Always looking forward for new videos
Please film how you are going setup the transmission gears teething pattern and tensions. Almost everybody screws this up and bearings are destroyed after few thousand miles.
@@EuropeanAutoCraftStudios I keep fingers crossed that it will work out. Also it's hard to buy those bearings, if you'll be able to source generic bearings not from Porsche(not everything is available) please let us know. Few years ago I was able to match one of the bigger cone like bearings from France but that's about it(it was 5Y gearbox, so the one from 8V NA 944).
@@EuropeanAutoCraftStudios Your welcome sir ! I got into 944s while stationed in former W Germany but never had the balls to open up a trans.Ill be studying your videos for years. Keep these coming . Good Luck with your channel !
Good job on the break down. One problem I have is no reverse lock out. Going from 3rd to 4th can be a problem if you miss 4th and hit reverse. No up or down movement required at the shift lever. Linkage isn’t that great so it’s easy to miss a gate. Any suggestions??😢

Sounds like the big spring is missing or broken behind the cover plate opposite side of selector shaft.
