Lol....Let's be real here, a piece from the turbo probably made it all the way through the intake piping...and that's what fugged up that plug. Somehow made its way out an exhaust valve lol.
That turbo is absolutely junk. Quit running the thing until you 1, Replace the turbo, 2, clean out the intercooler, and 3, change the oil cause not only are you ingesting chunks of the compressor/turbine wheel, but most of the material from the bearings is also being fed into your oil pan through the drain on the turbo. You -will- destroy that engine running that turbo any more than you already have.
Could have gotten a little rock in the turbo and the turbo its self ate most of the rock dumped a few little pieces into the engine just small enough to drop into the intake valve and smash the plug and on the next stroke it dumped out the exhaust valve its happened to me twice normally the piston and valve is stronger then the rock itself
FYI.. I think out of all the miatas.. Taylors, tommys, jacks.. Yours is the fastest.. And you beat taylor in the drag race 2 days after your car was finished.. I called that a win.
Don't sand the turbo. Turbos are balanced from the intake shaft to the exhaust shaft... since you've ground some of the shaft, you will need a full rebuild or new turbo. It's dead. Leave it. Vacuum leaks are probably causing your engine to run randomly rich/lean from unaccounted for air, which will fuck your AFRs. | Pull the engine, swap your seals that are leaking, clean it up and slap a new turbo on it. Your engine probably ingested some of your turbo's metal shavings... You need to do a leak down test along with a compression test, and maybe use a scope to look inside via the spark plug holes for any damage to your valves/piston. Check your intercooler for metal shavings.
You should k swap it, you seem serious about keeping it and k series is end game for sure. You will hold alot of boost and relible power don't go k20a BIGGST mistake I made when I did and ended up going tsx, you can get the engine and trans for around 1000 or an accord swap even cheaper then it's just motor mounts I went hasport but you can get cheap innovative ones for like 250 and probably do the same thing. Then fuel lines u know how to do already so it's just a rsx engine harness, ecu, half shaft and axles, header, shifter linkage and cable then ur done I might be forgetting small stuff I did mine over 2 years ago
that turbo is junk for the street. you need something that hits earlier and carries you a little below redline. you get instant and quick power and it keeps you away from revving it too high. motors dont last when you rev them to the moon all the time.
Ladies and gentlemen, if you think that your turbo is blown on your car here's a little word of advise. DO NOT GO OUT AND RIP ON IT. If you can don't run it at all. The turbo will end up sending pieces of metal into your motor and then you aren't just replacing a turbo you're rebuilding a motor as well.
Looked like a fin on the turbo wheel was damaged/broken?? If thats the case the rubbing in the turbo might be caused by an unbalanced wheel and sanding wont fix that, new/balanced wheel needed or the vibrations will wreck the bearings.
Considering you are not running any filter you probably did get a rock or something in there and it got pinched between the Piston and the spark plugs. Should definitely get a more efficient turbo and a filter.

I'd pull the turbo and check the hot side for damage as well. Garrets are usually rebuildable and any in and out shaft play=junk up and down you will feel a very very very small amount of play cold the oil takes up that if you feel it clunk up and down =junk don't risk your engine running a turbo that didn't match up well to the engine anyway.
Come on dude! If you know you got a vacuum leak, fix it before you go fly around a track running lean the whole time. That's just asking to grenade that engine. It's those small 5 min repairs that will cost you big time in the end if you neglect them. But I love the content the last few weeks from you guys! Keep it coming.

When you pull the engine do it right repaint the bay and powder coat the subframes.
