The church is also referred to as il-Vittorja (Our Lady of Victories) as its feast day, which is celebrated on 8th September, also commemorates the victory of the Knights of Malta over the Turks in the Great Siege of 1565.
The feast of Our Lady of Victories occurs on 8 September and is a National Holiday for the Maltese Islands.
This significant feast is celebrated with great enthusiasm in the villages of Senglea, Naxxar, Mellieha in Malta, and Xagħra in Gozo. Locally, this occasion is affectionately referred to as “il-Vitorja” (the Victory) and “il-Bambina” (the Baby). 09.09.2024
