      @11 11 looking at big numbers, that's true both ways - though I gotta say that it doesn't really mean anything because Yifan Hou (as an example) wasn't able to beat Carlsen once but will still beat over 99% of the rest of men on the planet. Only fools say their gender is superior to the other sex because of "large numbers". Admittingly those "large numbers" of showoffs also tend to be on the lower spectrum of skill - overevaluating themselves.

    • @QuangNguyen-ep6mx
      @QuangNguyen-ep6mx 4 года назад +17

      @11 11 that wasn't even my point, I was clarifying up that even when you are in a field that doesn't "suit your gender" or is "inferior in the majority of people" - you can still be one of the best in it. Maybe not "THE BEST, but definetely better than 99% others of a different gender that are considered "favored". So I am not saying you are wrong, I am saying that the "majority" doesn't really matter as long you do what you are good in. good as in - better than majority of people. that's why we have disciplines in all types of fields where genders are seperated, to make the advantage and disadvantages as fair as possible.

      Playing fast only helps if you make good moves. 🙂 I remember when Korchnoi was challenging Karpov for the championship in 1978, and the book I bought at the time described the two players as Karpov played very good moves quickly, while Korchnoi played great moves but slowly. Korchnoi was always in time trouble and Karpov kept the title, but just barely at 6-5.

      Unless it can be automated in some way, it's an additional step to do that takes time. I don't think we need to know the time frame for each move anyways. He could just say an update of when the players have reached the halfway point of their clock's and when/if one player has 1/3 the time left or less, than the other player, just to show the time constraint difference, and of course the final time when one player gets below 5 minutes. I think that's enough to know to get some perspective of time of what's going on. I forget with some of these games, that they can take hours to do, and I see it in 15-20 minutes. ;)

    According to the Stockfish, Ra8 is much weaker than Re6, so Hou Yifan actually made the engine move. Second best choice was to play Ne3. After Ra8, Stockfish claims white are better, but perhaps after Ra8 position is more simple to play for black than after Re6, so from that standpoint perhaps Ra8 was better...

    Peter Leko's alternative line (7:33) would actually be a piece-losing blunder for black. The analysis is correct if the knight is immediately taken: it is a forced draw. But white isn't obliged to take the knight immediately. Instead, this sequence of moves wins the black knight for free:
    32... Ra8
    33. Rxc6 Ra2
    34. Bd3 Nh2
    35. Ne2!
    Now there's an immediate threat of Kxh2, so the knight has to be retreated, and then white can use that tempo to pick off the other knight with Rxb6. The white knight can't be taken because it's supported by the bishop. Unless Leko has seen something I haven't (which is always a possibility), interposing the knight allows white to go up a piece.

    I think the merchandise needs some sort of chess symbol as well as the "Hello Everyone!". Maybe a rook, because although it is not the most powerful piece on the board, it is nevertheless very impressive in its own right, and everyone relies on them.

    Saw a couple moves she could have played to be more aggressive. She needs to take more pawns as she goes. She is getting behind in moves early on. But definitely should have pushed the h pawn to disturb his knight.
    I do not agree that knight agreement is bad. It is bad if you need it. It is great if you don't but it presents a hard to stop structure in the 3rd or 6th rows, dominating the board.
    Also why do people castle so early it just costs you a move and tells Magnus where you will play.
    She was intimidated by the queen but her queenless game is simply not as good as his. He is unbelievable at seeing the future. Unreal.
