Most of the "dead spider" stuff you see, is actually the skin, or exoskeleton, that they have shed in order to grow. ( BUT, there is the live one @ 38:10 ) The warmth and convective air moving through the units, when working, draws bugs, and of course, the bugs draw spiders. It's always entertaining to see you resurrect an item that had some sort of infestation, every one is its own unique challenge.

The IF Can is BAKED! And the spider eggs are CAKED1 I think this is proof we don't need to see a radio fixed to know what needs to be done to fix it. Great video!
Dad was a TV Repairman, he had this exact tuner set up open-face as his shop radio. It was still working in the shop at home long after he retired in the early 1990's. It was recapped more than once.
For silver mica measure the coil ( stripped ) with an LC meter & plug it into the formula with the res freq you want. Say 455 or 10.7. That will give you the cap value. LFOD !
What a shame. That was a beautiful set just abused and trashed. You never see sets like this of this era in the Cincinnati area. All have been thrown out. Not the Chinese style but the smaller TV radio combo. You can still find the monster combos because they were so hard to move. The easier it is to throw out the more likely there are none to survive.
Same here. 0.47 uF or 1.0 uF is about the largest I've ever seen for a disc ceramic cap (also over decades as an electronics tech). I wouldn't have chosen a ceramic cap for a crossover, but my guess is that this was a cost-cutting alternative.
Always entertaining - I absolutely love the dry humor. I have a set of "45 RPM adaptor" cufflinks, but I don't wear them anymore because I was once accused (by a staggeringly ignorant individual, having NO clue what she was looking at) of wearing swastikas on my wrists.

If you look at where spiders set up webs, its usually in places with air movement, or in a spot in a dark area where a light might come in from an exterior window, or near a light fixture. They know that those 2 conditions will always draw food to them. Roaches always love electronic appliances that create heat, so they will find them quick and set up shop. Too bad that set is in that condition…. It’s a shame, you don’t see any sets from the late 1950s - early 1970s, not even the big and heavy combo units where safe, and they’re getting more and more rare everyday with people repurposing these old sets…..
im working on a vintage television myself what would cause no image and no sound. Is it the high voltage not working if so whats some easy steps to figure it out?
The high voltage is only used to light up the picture tube. If there's also no sound you probably don't have the low voltage supplies working. Troubleshooting is different if it's tube or solid state.
@@SmileyRiley66 Usually there's a big metal can capacitor (or a few) somewhere on the chassis. You should see voltage on its terminals when the set is powered. I'm suspecting you won't see any. If you look at a schematic there won't be very many components before that point.
@@eDoc2020 hey yeah thanks I noticed the 5u4gb wasn't doing anything so i pulled it and noticed some loose stuff in it plugged it back in turned on the set and sure enough it doesn't ever warm up so I'll replace that and see what happens I gues lol.
@@SmileyRiley66 A blown 5U4 might be caused by shorted electrolytic capacitors. You should definitely check those before powering up if you don't want to cause more damage. I would remove the horizontal output tube and power on at reduced voltage, slowly bringing it up. If any caps get warm replace them right away. If everything else more-or-less works you'll probably get audio and ticking from the vertical circuit.

If I remember my Micromatic's chasis - The speakers did have the same parts on the speakers.
Yes, that was done by the Manufacture ... Most Likely! this is why, using the phono plug Rca Ports!

34:50 Wow is right. I've never seen one either!
9:53 “The Bowel Movement Tube.”
8:43 - Made In England implies it’s a Mullard, Brimar or Mazda (no, not that Mazda!)
fred Schneider is pure happiness~
Was way too many spiders 🕷 😫 The stuff nightmares are made of! They kind of look like what I call (here): "basement window" spiders, because that is where I see similar looking ones.
wonder how many ufd is a bed of spiders
39:08 The use of a 4" radio speaker as a tweeter seems a bit odd, even for 1960. I'll bet it was a fraction of the cost of a real tweeter.

Wonder what the spiders live on in a radio tv set.
Umm, roaches?

what is the reason for a different output tube for each channel?.
was that B-52 at the end ???
Jimmy Fallon and his stupid COVID Variant XBB.1.5 song
It was the song called “XBB.1.5” from Jimmy Fallon’s “Tonight Show”.
@@Musicradio77Network Thanks. I was wondering.
So there are 2 different kinds of "spiders" in there: the 45 RPM adapters and the arachnids!
The fbi wants to know..."you some kinda troublemaker, buddy?" They'll try to get your head right.
@@eDoc2020 its 100 percent all tube. The tubes that i can see seem to be lighting up. even the picture tube lights up
@@SmileyRiley66 Usually there's a big metal can capacitor (or a few) somewhere on the chassis.
Where are the audio output transformers? They're under so much fills it's easy to overlook them!!!
They are mounted in an unusual layout, one at the back and one on the side.
