  • Obviously made care can be done many different ways, this is just how I do it and I have noticed a difference on the thickness and lengths of the manes on these 2 girls from Pegasus Place Gypsy Vanners.
SD Icee Blue Babe of PPGV and SD Itsy Bitsy Flash Dance of PPGV
They aren't fed any kind of mane growth supplements. I just do my best to keep their manes healthy, tangle free, and minimal breakage when messing with the manes.
If you'd like to see any other grooming care, please comment and I will make a video on what I do for that grooming need :)

This is the best video on this topic. Thank you for being both short and so detailed. I've been looking at a gypsy filly as potentially my next horse and was curious about the details of how often the mane needs care and braiding, and the best technique. I really enjoyed the video, thanks!

I realize people like these horses because of the long manes, but if they aren't for show, why not trim it. I think it would look much nicer. You did a great job, but i dont like the tape look.

    Why electrical tape?

      doesn't break the hair

The electrical tape doesn't break the hair like rubber bands can. Also there has been plenty of times I would band the mane and not put tape and the next day the bands already broke and that section of mane is loose. Electrical tape doesn't come off until you want it to come off

I do bands and cover it with electrical tape. My Gypsy is always able to rub it off if I only do one, so I do both and they stay in for a whole week+. (I redo his mane once a week)

@@alanna4872 do you turnout? I have a mustang that grows super long hair but I’m scared to braid it cause he’s turned out basically 24/7

@@FFAlyssa mine is turned out 24/7. It shouldn’t be an issue as long as you rebraid every week.

Is there a way to help the mane grow faster?

I recommend biomane I have a gypsy vanner and it works wonders!!

I also recommend biomane. But remember, new hair growth doesn't start from the ends. It starts from the roots. So the mane will get thicker long before it gets longer. So no matter what, you must be patient. It also helps to use a biotin shampoo and conditioner when washing manes and tails to help them grow

Do you have our recommend any videos on caring for the feathering? I heard through the grapevine that conditions such as scratches and other bacterial & fungal issues can be more common on pasterns with feathering. Have you found that to be true? And if so, what's your routine for prevention?
