Bro a tip cause I'm doing the same and almost ripped my vocal cords so let me give you some musts :
1)Never ever strain your muscles, never reach for notes( high or low).
      2) Don't drink cold water ( mildly warm water) ,
3)Never sing without proper warm up .
      4) Only hit the notes in your range, sing the songs in your range and don't I repeat don't go out of your range.
      5) A lot of times you'll have the urge to sing high (out of range or original notes as in the song), try it once but don't continue doing it.
I repeat stick to your range till you increase it through exercises and WATER, WATER AND WATER.
