Really like the 512ce 12-fret. It's a little different from my 512ce (ironbark), which is paid for. I like Cooper 's hat, especially in green! Thanks, Chris and Cooper.

Finally, the review I've been clamoring for! My 412ce was the first guitar I've ever purchased without playing one first, and I bought it from you guys, even though I live in Montana. Gotta say, the 12-fret 512ce's a really temptation. Heck, so is the new 517e!
I personally think using urban Ironbark for a tone wood is a stroke of genius. The fact that it's more labor-intensive and technically challenging to harvest and utilize because of the urban environment is probably all the explanation needed to justify the additional cost. We don't have an inexhaustible supply of traditional tone woods, so I applaud Taylor for looking outside the box. Besides, it's not as likely to be subject to supply chain issues should another pandemic strike, God forbid. Kudos to Taylor.
    Great review, as always.

I’ve had the 514ce since last fall. It’s a beautiful instrument with the absolute best raw acoustic sound of any Taylor. The torrified top gives it an old woody nutty sound in the mids. The familiar glistening highs and unusual-for-Taylor thumpy lows. Truly a cool instrument for pick and fingerpicking, especially.

Really like the sound & playability aspect of the 552ce. Beautiful sounding & looking guitar!

I had to go back to your 417e-r video and A-B the two on history to get the clear differences . The overtones in the 417 really stand out to me. And its scooped mids are also evident. I fell in love with that guitar (417) when you presented it and I’m still hooked. I’m glad to see locally sourced, good sounding tone woods being brought to market in great guitars. Thanks again, gentlemen.

Cooper with the 12-fret is a pretty winning combination. I can always tell when he gets into a guitar. Dude was shredding there.

I was at Taylor recently to drop off a GS mini for a setup. I stopped at the visitor center where they have almost all of their models available to play (kid in a candy store). Unfortunately there wasn’t a 500 series there that day. As good as your videos are it doesn’t compare to hearing them in person. Any wood that can make a good instrument instead of being thrown into a chipper should be used to save the overused tropical woods from a rain forest. These guitars are beautiful and shows Taylor’s penchant for leading the way in innovation.

I think the edge burst gives the guitar an appealing look. It sounds really nice. I think the wood grain is a little plane. I'm a sucker for 12 fret guitars....thanks for the shout out, Chris!

Great review guys! Thanks. I’m really impressed with the 12 string cooper played. It sounds just like you described it - Big sound for a small body 12 string. Lots of guts with a well balanced sound and doesn’t sound like a big mandolin like some of the other small body 12 strings sound. It has a focused deep and clear sound and it helps that cooler can play it so flawlessly. What a helleva guitar player coop is! Anyway, thanks again for a great review…. Now I’m thinking of trading in my Larrivee Dreadnaught 12 string for that 12 string? Hmmm 🤔

Man I thought they were ditching the mahogany 517 when this started, glad to hear they are maintaining the BE model at least. I love mine.

Nice review! I’ve played the 514 ce, but really like the finish on the 517. Is that a special color burst? It looks nothing like the one I played. Thanks!

I like the guitar especially the 517e it just seems to that guitars with the cutaway loose something. By the way I will be in San Antonio in two weeks which store would you recommend visiting,

Cooper killing it once again, stealing all the attention from the guitars. Beautiful playing on really good sounding guitars.
I came here for the 12 string, but the 12 fret left me in awe. I approve them designing guitars that “sound bigger”, because some of us are either too small for dreadnoughts or don’t have the room.

Help me understand. I like the sound of Ironbark. However, I don't understand why Taylor would replace Mahogany with a "Rosewood-esque" tonewood.
    I was hoping to one day get a V-class 514 Mahogany/Cedar (I had a ES1 version).
IMO - I think Powers replacing the 700 and 500 series woods, as opposed to simply adding as an example 514-Ironbark, or 714-Koa will prove to be a major error.
I realize the 300 and 400 series have moved from Sapele/Ovangkol, to Mahogany/Rosewood, but the appointments are lacking. While the 800 series gives you an upscale Rosewood, where is the upscale Mahogany series? Finally, regardless of tone, how can we accept that an Urban tonewood, is more expensive to make than Mahogany, or the 417 Rosewood for that matter? Powers has created a classification problem. Bob needs to step back in.

I just recently buy a Taylor 712 12 fret with rosewood back and side, Koa bidding and Spruce lutz top for the same reason you explained. I didn’t want a 812 and now the 700 series is Koa. So if you want a Spruce Rosewood with some appointments, you have to buy a 800 series!

The new 5 series use torrified tops which are definitely upscale and, in my opinion, worth the extra $. I own a new 512CE and am very pleased with the tone of this new wood pairing.

You n goldie locks (cooper) ever gonna put out an all acustic cd? I reallllllllllly love your slow country soundin finger pickin things you both do on these guitar demos here! Id pay money for some tab of your slow pickin stuff that sounds like ballads.. n i dig the faster stuff to and ive love to have the same stuff you play here on these videos showing the difference in tones like the 814ec grand auditorium builders addition vs 814ec grand auditorium..... tab just makes it easier n plus id know im doin it just as ypu or cooper play it. If you got time, or the technology n its not to much trouble id pay ya if you burned your acustic playing onto a disc! 30 bucks ? Id make it worth yr time bc i reallllly love both of yr acustic playing! Maybe youve got something like that already online so ill check but i think you 2 would be SUPRISED how much you could make on just burning yr stuff at home on a disc! My word.. ill buy! You guys are really really great players! I know good stuff when i hear it n im tellin ya your both incredible musicians! Any info or answers id greatly appreciate it... or i could call the store n talk for a second n get the info n information to make things easier. ???

I’m going to play the Devil’s Advocate: Craftmanship aside, is a tonewood that is a tree typically turned into mulch, a trash wood if you will, worth $3200? I’ll pay $3200 for a rosewood or mahogany, but a eucalyptus variant? Hmmm, I’m not sure.

The 552 was way better than expected. It is very tempting, but I'm not sure I could justify a guitar that would be pretty limited for me.
