Disney's DINOSAUR Abandoned Scene The River Crossing

- Disney's DINOSAUR The River Crossing, Before he was Aladar he was Noah, here you see in this Concept he is with the Herd and with his Grandparents Crossing the Dangerous Infested River.
We took a field trip to the LA County Nat. History Museum very early on. The directors took a liking to this prehistoric crocodile skull the size of a rowboat. That was the inspiration for the river crossing scene.
Just replace those grandparents with Baylene and Eema and you get a scene that could have worked during the travel montage in the final film.
It makes too much sense. They can't drink this water because there are predators in it, so they start dying from dehidration and are desperate for water when they reach the dry lake. And so, Neera's comment about loosing half the herd carries a lot more weight.
This version's worth revisiting whenever Disney decides to do another dino centric film.
Seriously I am sick of that Encanto, live action remake and Marvel junk! I want another dinosaur film!
Yeah the original plot of the movie was much more graphic darker and edgier as tv tropes calls it
Man I love deleted scene especially the ost that sadly never made it I final version of the movie to me this what I call they wasted perfectly good scene moments and ost most particularly ost aftermath of crocodile attack on herd and Noah ( which later become aladar in final version) shed tears at sight of several herd death even he said it was wrong to go into river as he rightfully knows that bad idea also what name of ost that never made into the final movie 4:18
I would've liked to see this concept as a full movie, looks interesting, and so different from the actual plot.
I wished Disney had fully animated this and reimagined this whole concept probably in the future after this original idea was once scrapped.
Like a prequel
This scene did feel very dark for a Disney movie, but I don't think they needed to dumb it down so much. This felt very much like a documentary where wildebeest are crossing a river -- they know they must, but some will die at the jaws of crocodiles, and more often than not, most watch their comrades die for fear for their own lives. It's eye-opening and moving. Dinosaur had the potential to be really great -- groundbreaking animation and graphics, a wonderful cast of characters. I wish they had worked out the dialogue and story to have more substance. It did the trick of catching my interest as a kid, but looking back, I'm sad I can't enjoy it as much now as I did then.
I mean they left in simbas dad dying from wildebeast TRAMPLING on him while the child saw it lmaooo
They intended to keep the river crossing scene but it was too difficult and expensive to animate at the time and keep it realistic looking. They also originally intended for the raptors to have feathers but it was to expensive and time consuming to render feathers at the time the movie was made.
That was from the early presentation reel from December 1996.
4:27 This scene breaks my soul, leaves me thinking and very sad, I can't bear it, If I had seen it as a child I would not have had a problem but seeing it as an adult destroys my soul, I do not know why, if it is sad music or painting with dead dinosaurs
It could be that it's just sad to see that many dying, while believing they could make it across. But it really is a sad scene overall.
It is a rather striking visual. The score is powerful. I think the real sadness is that it's hinting at the end of the dinosaurs - the sunset provides beautiful imagery but also foreshadows the tragedy of their extinction. And there's that palpable grief about seeing so many of your own dead, floating down the river, to be washed away forever.
This would definitely work for a different movie.
Rubywing4 What Movie would you think this Sequence would Work on better?
I don't know, DINOSAUR II? Dinosaur Journey? You come up with a name, I have no idea!
Rubywing4 I like it
Brandon Brooks that’s the original name of the ride at Disney’s Animal Kingdom.
As "The Duke of Artz" I agree.
I like it when movies go the darker route like this. Disney doesn't ALWAYS have to make everything kid directed. IMO
But i thought Disney was a Animation Studio Designed for Kids & Family's to Watch, I don't Understand why they would Take a Darker Route.
Johnathon Barker To make it more interesting and memorable.
Oh, Right.
I think the word would be censoring it, but then kids do need to know things and to keep it all safe is robbing them of it
It's nothing Disney hasn't done before, Walt Disney use to say if you make your product only target towards one group of audiences then you already failed as a company. Look at his other movies Pinocchio he showed the scene where little boys were turning into donkey's, Sleeping Beauty showed blood when the Prince stabbed the Dragon, Lion King showed Mufasa being thrown off a cliff, Fantasia had some pretty dark and twisted scenes the T-rex grabbing and shaking a Stegosaurus neck and tail and then showing the dinosaurs all dieing into extinction all falling down from hunger and thirst one by one until they were all skeletons, you get the picture.
Am I the only one who gets serious "Land before time" vibes? The protaganist, whos mum died protecting him, is now going with the grandparents...
Same here
I like Disney’s Dinosaur fine, in fact I’d go as far as to call it underrated, but I think this version would’ve been so much better, and I hope Disney comes back to these drafts some day to make a full film based around it.
Imagine the crossing with the other dinosaurs (Iguanodon (obviously), Stygimoloch, Styracosaurus, Microceratops, Parasaurolophus, Pachyrhinosaurus and Struthiomimus)
What a carnage it would be...
The Stygimoloches and Microceratus would have been swalloed whole in that scene.
So basically in the beginning the herd only composed of iguanodons?
Rubywing4 yeet
This iguanodon-only herd is more scientifically accurate than mixed-species herds we got in the final cut.
If you think about it Aladar/Noah’s herd was only seen as iguanodons. Like in the beginning of the movie. They just congregated around other dinosaurs.
Dylan Hooton i always like to think that at first kron only lead iguanodons but that other herds decided to follow kron atleast during the nesting ground migration since they were going the same way like eema and her styracosaurus herd, and even more species joined after the meteor
Maybe If It's possible to have a ''Dinosaur 2'' Noah can be Aladar's and Neera's child for some reason :'D
Alex Glades That would be Great but that Depends if the Walt Disney Animation Studios is willing to make it happen.
No it will not!!!
I just heard T-Rex sounds and a velociraptor growl on the abandoned scene
Huh i don't remember hearing it.
I heard it to
I only heard the Jurassic Park T-Rex roar and not the Jurassic Park raptor shriek.
4:03-12
Those giant crocs must be Deinosuchus. Or maybe Sarcosuchus.
Huh okay :)
David Fiore I believe its deinosuchus since sarchi lived in africa while deino lived in north america
Rizky Maulana Hmmm, that's Interesting to know about.
Carnosaurus lived in South America and Iguanodon lived in Europe
Also, there were birds in the Mesozoic in real life, it's just that most had clawed fingers on their feathery wings and toothy snouts like theropod dinosaurs. Lemurs however never lived in the Mesozoic era.
The original script looked good but the final script was better.
Okay.
Johnathon Barker Yep.
it was just too dark
I still think it could have worked. Disney rarely takes risks, but this could have been more memorable.
CretaceousTheHunted Anywhere I can read the original script, I’m pretty curious
On the other hand, I would like to know why Kron seeks to prevent Noah from rescuing his grandfather, how it disturbs him? He does not care a bit about everyone, right?
The way Kron told Noah/Aladar to get back to shore was like what a father would say to his son. Was Kron originally going to be Aladar's father?
Xicor.Lord.2016 __ I don't know anything could have happened in this part of the Story though I am not sure what part in the Movie this would have happened in.
Xicor.Lord.2016 __ honestly, I think Kron would have been a good guy in the original draft of the movie
Kron would have been a good guy while Cain (in an another abandoned concept) would have been a bad guy/villain as he threatened to kill Noah the Iguanodon. Was Kron originally going to have hatred against Cain due to Cain's evilness?
Noah prolly wasn’t Aladar just a younger and stronger member of the herd which is why Akron wanted him to stay alive to keep the herd strong. The weak didn’t deserve to live but to help the other keep living.
Kron was originally named Cain in this early version of the film.
The tone in tris early version shows an "Aladar" who grows up in a hard way, with losses and suffering, no wonder why Disney reduce the intensity in the final result.
Yeah i guess that's how it pretty much went with them.
Its like how Littlefoot lost his mother and was separated from his grandparents,
but like with the history of a relatively grown up individual it would undoubtedly hurt more being past the stage in life where you could heal from that loss and how you could blame yourself for their loss.
@@kennethsatria6607 That scene still brings me to tears
@@JohnathonBarker Man I love deleted scene especially the ost that sadly never made it I final version of the movie to me this what I call they wasted perfectly good scene moments and ost most particularly ost aftermath of crocodile attack on herd and Noah ( which later become aladar in final version) shed tears at sight of several herd death even he said it was wrong to go into river as he rightfully knows that bad idea also what name of ost that never made into the final movie 4:18
2:09 Looks like one of the Unused Character Concepts of the Giant Crocodiles aren’t the only abandoned events of the Disney Film.
Wow, the Iguanodons have actual beaks here. Now I wonder why the film developers decided to leave them out in the final product. It makes the dinosaurs more realistic and believable.
+Lord Frieza But that's how iguanodons looked like in real life though. The lack of beaks in the movie didn't feel right, and it made the dinosaurs look a bit cartoonish.
The Batman Of Neo-Gotham I reckon that they gave them proper lips so they could be more expressive than if they had beaks.
I saw that behind these lips in the movie, they had beaks underneath,we just had to see through the lips. But I really like some realism here, one is by removing lips to make them.more accurate looking.
batman of the future icon
They said it was for allowing the faces to be more expressive when they talked
Noah would have been a perfect name for Aladar’s son.
You're right, Aladar (Noah). It was wrong of Kron to have the herd cross that river. It was not only dangerous, but it was also very reckless and arrogant.
Wow even all the dead bodies floating down the river omg. Dark shit
This idea was used in a film called March of the Dinosaurs involving an Edmontosaurus named Scar.
LOL That name kinda reminds me of Scar from The Lion King, who was the main villain/antagonist.
Oh you mean “The Great Dinosaur Escape”. Except those creatures that lurk in the water were some kind of Mosasaur called prognathodon.
This would have made a great scene in the finished movie to be honest...
28godzilla Well I would think so too, to say the least.
The entire movie was dramatic and tense to some degree in general...
Yes but it would also make the water hole scene pointless because here you have a huge river of water I think its an awesome scene and i wish it was in the movie but that would mean that some scenes would have to be changed or cut because this world seems more green and less the deserts we got in the finished product.
The scene may be dark but it definitely wouldve been way better than the dried up watering hole scene imo
I'm guessing this was made in Dinosaur's infancy.
It looks like it.
nmheath03 Is Dinosaur Infancy a movie?
was Noah the original Aladar?
Seems like it.
Yes
It did say in the beginning.
Noah was the working name of the main dinosaur character. Adam was the name of the main lemur.
before noah, after aladar
23 december 2020 im really surprised tô only discoverying abbandoned scenes only today!!! The deleted ones i discovered december 2016 but enjoyed! The abbandoned ones i disliked cause are scary and darker brutal....
When Kron says 'I forbid you!', the only thing going through my mind is 'When has that ever worked out for you Kron?'😂
The music is awesome had a lot of emotion
What the name of the music this was only ost of dinosaur that was scrapped for unknown reason it doesn’t made it in dinosaur ost completion release
This is awesome!!!! I for one, would love to see this version of the movie actual being fully completed, but in hand drawn animation that'd be simply glorious. Nice, gritty and realistic, perhaps more than the movie we got.
2:17 and you thought the movie was dark before
I don't get it, is this the scene from the beginning or after the meteorite impact?
Aladar was adopted by the lemurs, so does this means Noah is Aladar's lost father that got separated when the carnotaur attacked at the beginning? Impossible, that Iguanodon looks like a female!
What is this? What what what???? Answer plzzz.
Dark Cookiez I think that the part where he was adopted by lemurs was still a major plot point. This scene took place after impact where they were forced to run and eventually ran into the herd where Noah (aladar) was somehow reunited with his only living relatives, his grandparents (likely by scent or some recognition of familial features). Clearly they became close, and as they travelled Noah likely learned of his roots and found his place of being.
Honestly this premise seems like it would have been far superior to what we got in terms of attachment and feeling. But that's just a hopeworthy opinion.
DAM!
this scene is so great, and the soundtrack makes it even more greater
sea turtle skeleton icon
Frankly it shame and waste that soundtrack not only cut from the movie but never released even in dvd other than the abandoned river scenes
With all of the deleted content I feel like this movie would've been around the 2 hour mark or maybe even a little more which I would've loved cause I love movies that literally give you everything they can give you but for Disney I suppose that may be too long sense this is still in that era where there "animated" movies weren't running more than 1hr 20min most of the time
Facts. I loved the movie growin up but I always wanted it to be longer than it actually was.
They lost half of the herd to the crocodiles and others drowned
Tyrannosaurus Rex (Jurassic Park/sound)
3:33
4:10
That was Kron?! I hardily Recognized him what is this his Early Sketch Design? 0:50
@Johnathon Barker he looks different to the kron I’ve grown up with
Line Script:
0:43 Noah: Grandma, do you think you’ll be alright?
0:46 His grandmother: I’ll be fine, Noah.
0:48 Noah: Something doesn’t feel right.
0:50 His grandfather: I’m sure Kron knows what he’s doing, Noah.
0:53 Noah: I hope so.
1:12 Noah: Grandma, Grandpa, stay close to me. Hold on.
2:45 Noah: Are you alright, grandpa?
2:47 His grandfather: I’m with you, son. Just take your grandmother to shore.
3:01 Noah: We made it, grandma, we made it. Grandpa? Grandpa!
3:20 Kron: Noah, come back at once! I forbid you!
4:54 Noah: It was wrong to cross here, I knew it.
4:59 His grandfather: Come, Noah, let’s join the herd.
This is really Amazing Scene it be Incredible to see if only there ever is another Animation Version of Disney Dinosaur 2 ½.
Animated this would have been a master piece.
Part one Noah part2🦕dinosaur aladar
They should have added the abandoned scene.
Wouldn’t allow this movie to be dark and violent
Has a Gory dinosaur book of them killing each other made for kids
Exactly lol thats all the type of books I used to get whenever the book fair came to my school
What is that crocodile🐊?
deinosuchus
One thing I dont understand is why they didn't keep the beak look on the iguanadons, made them more realistic, instead they went with more human looking lips.
Facial expressions
@@EvripidouM yeah you're probably right
@@peterd4047 thats what they said in the commentary
@@EvripidouM yeah, still should have kept the beaks though, they could have still done expressions

I honestly don't know why the video with noah and cain was taken out but the song in that video was epic and went really well with the scene,if anyone knows the name of the song I'd be very grateful
Why was this abandoned scene was abandoned and never been seen in the movie?
0:05 dead Triceratops
If they want water in the movie, why didn't they drink a few amount on it? *Mind* *blown* !!!
I believe the Story was a little Different back then, well possibly.
I feel like this wouldve been even better than the water hole scene tbh
Would to see cain and Noah scene
Si en esta película había agua de que iva a tratar??
I wish those parts were in🦕🦖dinosaur🎥movie
I thought everyone would like to see this :)
@Johnathon Barker 2:22 wouldn’t any herbivorous dinosaur be warey when crossing/drinking from water
I would think so.
@Johnathon Barker it’s shown in live animals like zebras
something I didn't think about before: at the beginning you see baby dinosaurs afraid to cross, but at the end you don't see any of them. Were they able to cross the river or did they also die? If the crocodiles ate them it makes it even more terrifying.

this looks like the lande before time. both dinosaurs had grandfathers
CrazyBrothersStyle R2-D2 Maybe they wanted to have the same concept like The Land Before Time, probably.
That's the main reason the grandparents were written out. It looked too much like the Bluth film.
Love the🎶music I wish that part was in🎥movie

This Kron seems to care more about his herd than the final version we got.
I can already tell that this would've been a much better movies
Movie's? well isn't just 1 Movie here?
dinosaur tv series is coming to disney Channel
For Real? /:(
You sure your not just Referring to Jim Henson's Show from the Early 90s?
Was this meant to be the original character? In truth them to be with his grandparents is a bit too reminiscent of the land before time, but still would’ve been good.👍

Well, Since my Family happens to support the Democratic Party, I'm pretty much going with, Joe Biden.
Personally i ain't into Politics & Stuff, It's not really my Thing, But yeah in doing my Part with what the Family goes with i just Accept it & go with whatever my Dad wants me to Support & yeah Since it's all on Democrat's its All pretty much on Joe Biden.

Interestingly, the herd leader is called Kron rather than Cain like elsewhere in the "Noah" version.
That's probably because these scenes were recorded AFTER the movie came out, probably recorded just so they could show them on the DVD (otherwise they would've used the same voice actors as the actual movie), the recording-directors probably forgot that Kron's name was Cain at this point.
I agree with Alexia Glades with the possible sequel ❤
This concept was reused in March of the Dinosaurs. Featuring Edmontosaurs instead of Iguanodons.

2:03: I like the inclusion of little Gerrothorax there and the music is nice too.
I feel they could have done more with the crocodiles thou. I mean, the fossil record has giant crocodiles, crocodiles with horns, crocodiles with fins, crocodiles with saberteeth. Any of those would have been fun to see.
See Disney needs to go back to movies like this, not everything in it has to be magical
