    There's a concept called "security theater," where things exist to give the feeling of safety while actually doing very little to provide real safety.
    Master Lock is what you'd call a textbook example of theater. You see a lock, and your neighbor sees a lock. Those in the know see an overpriced paperweight. Those in the know with bad intentions see easy money.

      Plus if it effectively keeps people away / from trying something, then I'd argue it is in fact actual security.

    • @jacobc9221
      @jacobc9221 Год назад +113

      @@lillyanneserrelio2187That's actually smart. And then you can make the key not touch the two locked parts. The issue is if someone knows how they work. Either they'll scramble the lock to permanently lock it, (if you don't know how to pick it) or they'll try all the possible combinations.
      I'd use a 2a inch long or so L shaped pick for them. I can grab it by the neck as long as the lock isn't huge, and grab the pick by the end if it is. Then I'd go through the combos by trying one, checking, redoing that combo, rinse and repeat. It'd certainly take a bit to unlock, though, and would be much easier if I weren't at risk of being caught.
      It'd be even harder, though, if the mechanisms needed different shapes or sizes and it was difficult to tell when you unlocked/locked one. Then you could keep its serial number in a master list then request that number from an online blueprint database so the locksmith can more easily pick it.
      If I tried countering this, I'd bring a bag of different picks that were identical except for the head. A small pouch should suffice, assuming there's some overlap between mechanism types or just a small amount of total types. If possible, I'd learn how to tell when I did something to a mechanism, maybe through practice with a lock of my own. If I couldn't figure it out, I'd have to go through a lot more combinations. As for having time, I'd scout out the place and learn the owner/tenant's sleep schedule, but odds are, I'd get caught after trying different combinations every night by a neighbor.
      Yeah... If I were a burglar who found that lock, I'd go to another house. And I didn't even make it a smart lock...

      He clearly opened the box beforehand, there was no filming of him cutting the package open, though that doesn't discredit him at all. This video is both proof and entertainment, while being concise. Practicing the shot until it was fluid in one continuous pick is the best way to do it, doesn't mean he faked it.
      I will say it'd be dope to see him make another channel that posts his trial vids, but I guess that'd ruin the fun of it.

      Master locks are literally used as beginner locks for people learning to pick, they're like the least secure locks but the most known brand 😂

    Once again as a license locksmith this is very true and very easy to do. Just ask the owner of a warehouse who had to get into his backflow device and we were there doing some electrical repair for him and I told him I could get in in less than 5 minutes and I have to admit it was about 15 seconds.

      There are many people who only target the clearly unprotected. You could put a lock that's not locked on something and it would discourage some potential thieves from attempting. Also, it helps if your lock isn't vulnerable to something as simple as a combing attack.
