  • Successful entrepreneur turned political leader Herman Mashaba is hard at work building structures and putting together the personnel to make Action SA a major force in South Africa's 2024 National Election. The party has appointed provincial leaders in six of the country's nine provinces and promises to fill the other three posts by yearend. Mashaba says results of the three by-elections it has contested since its surprising strong showing in the November 2021 Local Elections support the assertion that his party is gathering momentum. During this interview with Alec Hogg of Biznews, the unlikely politician explains his approach to other political parties that are likely to be allies in ruling coalitions and shares how he sees the transformation of SA's political landscape after the ANC's expected loss of power in the 2024's National Election.

    I'm 34 years old, never voted, never even bothered registering; I just felt it was pointless, the ANC had too much support and my vote would be like farting against thunder. Another reason was that I didn't feel there was a party that resonated with me. Now, for the first time in my life I am excited to register my vote. The thunder has dissipated, my fart may finally be heard! I'm in love with the idea of a coalition state, because that's what we are as South Africans, different groups of people living together under one roof. I like the breath of fresh air that Action SA brings, I like their inclusive values and pragmatic approach. I'll definitely be keeping my eye on them during the run up to 2024.

    I am 23 & have never voted. I am glad a party like ActionSA has come along because for a long time I had no intentions of ever voting in South Africa. All other parties have too much baggage for me but recognizing that 2024 is the most important election since 1994 & has to be all hands on deck in order to remove or substantially weaken the ANC & keep the personification of mayhem himself, Julius Malema, away from holding significant power. I would have reluctantly voted for the DA. Because I know the DA is good at governing & are the current champions of fiscal discipline in South Africa. But like I said, it has too much baggage & is always making controversial statements. Statements that might indeed be true to an extent & I can agree that somebody needs to crack the whip on South Africans every now & again but their delivery comes off as arrogant & unsympathetic to the circumstances facing the "black people". That being said, this is not a black or a white country, "other races" & cultures deserve a place at the table too. I want a government that reflects the schools I went to & the neighborhoods I've lived in & ActionSA has shown me that it is capable of making such a government. It organically drew in support from people across "races", ethnicities & socioeconomic standings. Since coalitions will be the law of the land come 2024 & going forward, I think ActionSA & the DA will be a good foundation for building a South Africa that works to the benefit all South Africans. They will have to put their egos aside & do the necessary, slow & difficult work in order to make South Africa a socially advanced & economically viable country. A country capable of competing & wining in all spheres of human endeavor on the world stage, not just rugby😂

      Caesar well spoken indeed. a very mature young person. The future of SA is literally in the hands of your generation (as one of the biggest voting blocks). The pre-2024 challenge is for politically aware young people like you to mobilise, first your circle of acquaintances, and then from there your community and voila before you know it you will be on the national stage making a positive contribution to SA. So please lets be active, REGISTER TO VOTE. Mburumba (from Namibia but keenly interested in SA politics having been with ANC/MK cadres in Lusaka, Algeria, Cuba, Moscow)

    Good people great interview! 2024 is too far don’t you think 🤔? It’s dire situation out there? We are collapsing faster day in day out! Time for interim government & possibly early elections! Fear to picture 2024 under ANC🤞🏽🥺

    I am a VF+ voter, but I must say I am very excited about ASA. Not only are they credible enough to take on the ANC, but also with a policy framework that is compatible with the VF+ policies. Ofcause it wont be a smooth ride, but I do see them as a valuble coalition partner one can work with. I'm optimistic about the future. That's something I havent felt in a long time.

    Wow. To have a senior leader of a major party come out, willing to publically admit that apart from the evils of Apartheid, therevwere also a lot of good as well that we can learn from, is like a breeze of fresh air in a stale room. I've always been annoyed with the one dimensional view of Apartheid: people either say it was all good or all bad. It was impossible to have a rational discussion about the past without people getting offended.

    South Africans are not dumb nor are they ignorant - we know the power of our vote HOWEVER we dont trust and lost all faith in politicians. So before “you politicians” point a finger to South Africans for a lack of voter turnout in the past, perhaps you guys should all look in the mirror and reflect on your track record. Everything you guy say as an attempt to win our vote, we’ve heard too many times before. The same movie plays out every few years.

      The question is, what is the alternate. Greviance and resentment politics has run its course and leads to bitteress which is how the ANC is able to govern by divide and conquer.

    • @firstcomment749
      @firstcomment749 9 месяцев назад

      Blacks had 30yrs of revenge - apart from smaller issues, more than 119 race based laws against white ppl gave blacks opportunities denied to Whites + to ppl of other races.
      The tables are busy turning for aparthd laws + that 119 anc laws to be put in perspective. Can SA break out of the devastating circle or do we really want to repeat it ad naseum? Can SA work out a win win situation or not?
      If other countries like Russia + Malaysia can do it, without destroying themselves, their cultures + their economy, why can't SA do the same?
