      FUN FACT(?)- Jimmy Page was the last of 3 great guitarists that played in the Yardbirds (Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck). The guys that had been in the band since about 1964-65, which was very popular with hits worldwide, from the start had, had enough of touring and all QUIT while touring the European continent. Page found the other three guys, named by justin king a month ago, and Led Zeppelin's first gigs, I believe in Scandinavia somewhere were billed as "The New Yardbirds" or "Jimmy Page's New Yardbirds" to fulfill some Yardbirds contractual obligations so the record or tour company didn't take a hit.

    Here's a fun fact for you:
    Drummer John Bonham was almost kicked out of the band in the first few weeks, because he played so loud, it supressed the sound of the other instruments.
    Luckily they kept him. He was 20 years old when they recorded this song.

    • @jayw8494
      @jayw8494 3 года назад +3

      I doubt that, once Page heard Bonham for the first time he knew he was the man for the job. I think Bonham may have had a double bass drum initially which was reduced to one however after touring with Vanilla Fudge in the late sixties, Carmine Appice set him up with the same kit arrangement as his own.

    • @hadvezer99
      @hadvezer99 3 года назад +4

      @@jayw8494 This doesn't mean Page didn't recognise him as a player, but it was a problem for him during rehearsals and gigs. Eventually he asked Peter Grant to talk to Bonzo about it, which he did, and the problem was solved.

    Fun “LZ I” fact: it was recorded in just 36 hours of studio time in 1968. The group had been together for maybe just a few months; the recording techniques utilized by Jimmy Page on the record set the tone for recorded music into the 1970s and beyond. Also, the bizarre sounds he makes with the guitar are him using a violin bow on the neck.

    Fun Fact: Led Zeppelin recorded this and many other tunes at Hedley Grange, a notorious maison in England rooted in the occult. Some say the "supernatural" of this location possessed the group, and made for better music. Also, the layout of the home made for a challenging yet original recording set-up ultimately resulting in the unique and sexy sound. Oh yeah, and Jon Bonham.

    Another fun fact: Page was one of the most highly regarded sessions guitarists in the early to mid 60s. He's credited on songs by The Who, The Kinks, Rolling Stones, 5 songs on Joe Cocker's debut album.
    He was good friends with Jeff Beck and Eric Clapton. He was twice offered a position with The Yardbirds. Once to possibly replace Clapton, which he turned down in loyalty to his friend. When Clapton left in 65 he was offered the position again, which he turned down in favor of his sessions work. He suggested his friend Jeff Beck. He eventually joined the group after Paul Samwell-Smith abruptly left the band, coincidentally after a concert that Page attended and visited back stage. He offered to play bass for the band, which he did until switching to dual leads with Beck when Chris Dreja moved to bass.

    'WTF was that?!' That was Dazed and Confused, but just the short LP version. I cracked up at this reaction. Plant called the drugs then various cures for sleep for 3 days (or something like that). The Yardbirds did this song well, in a few different versions (not sure if Clapton played it with a violin bow?). Once Page owned it and Plant sang it, it became one of the most iconic and bazar rock songs recorded.

    My first music purchase was the albums, Led Zepplin and Led Zepplin II. Back in 1969. I was 13 at the time! I love every song on both albums! I was trying to find the song, "Whole Lotta Love", but didn't know the title of the song. I knew it was by Led Zepplin, so I bought both albums. Back then the only Led Zepplin song that got airplay on the radio, was "Whole Lotta Love". Well, I fell deeply in love with both albums. I have a large collection of Led Zepplin still today!

    Everytime they released a new album it went straight to number 1 and each and every previous album went back up on the top 20 list.

    This was recorded live apart from the rhythms guitar during the solo, which was mixed in later. Amazing musicians.
