    Take a moment to consider the fact that Arlong left the lands of the Fishmen and Merpeople with the intention of punishing the humans who had made his people miseable, and ultimately just ended up on a tiny island in the calmest and least dangerous part of the world. He only ever managed to last as long as he did because he bribed Navy officers to ignore him, because he knew that he couldn't do anything against them. For all his big talk and big plans, Arlong was just a fly that no one had bothered to swat.

      While painfully accurate.. it is also kind of the point. It is something that Law also picks up on at the end of his fight with Vergo, "It's been 2 years since the 'War of the Best'. Did anyone actually accomplish anything? All you did was stay calm. All Whitebeard did was end the era. The Navy Headquarters rounded up new forces. The big-timers didn't take any actions! It was like everybody was just preparing for something."

    • @Compucles
      @Compucles 2 года назад +125

      Well, he did also take out the occasional Navy ship that he couldn't bribe. It's just that since he was in the least dangerous part of the world, he was still the most powerful warlord around, and the Marines didn't bother to have any of their stronger troops that could handle him stationed in the East Blue, save for Smoker who was stuck in Logue Town.

    What I like most about Luffy is how he's heroic without acting in the way traditional heroes do. He defeats Arlong in a heroic fashion, but he didn't do it to save the village. He had no idea what was happening there or what Nami had been through. What made him take it upon himself to defeat Arlong was Nami tearfully asking for his help.

      No he definitely did it to save the village, mainly because it is Nami's treasure. It's like in the Orange Town Arc with the dog that guarded the pet store his owner ran. After it was destroyed, Luffy dug through the wreckage to find that box of dog food that survived and give it to the dog so the dog could have the only thing left that reminded him of his owner that passed away.
      Luffy may not be a hero in the traditional sense, but he WILL protect what's important.

In the anime arlong was no match for luffy and he realized this when luffy threw the first punch and luffy beat him easily. He destroyed arlong park purley to free nami but in live action he did it cuz he said I can’t beat you but I can destroy what you’ve built which kinda ruined it

    I remember watching this scene for the first time, and it was how I knew I was hooked to One Piece. Usopps arc was really great, and so was Sanji's, but this arc was packed with emotion. I hated that Nami was so sad, and felt so alone, like she couldn't trust anyone to be in her corner. So when Nami was so desperate to ask Luffy for help, and Luffy did this to Arlong, I knew I was hooked.
