    STORYLINE:
Iraq's Christians are preparing to mark Christmas amid tougher economic conditions brought by the rising cost of living.
Residents of Hamdaniya, a town in northern Iraq with a majority of Christian population, were out shopping for Christmas gifts and decorations this week ahead of the holiday.
But many complained about the current economic climate, especially the climbing prices of food and most other goods and services.
The holiday is also overshadowed by longing for all those who will not attend the celebrations.
Iraq's Christian communities in the area were dealt a severe blow when they were scattered by the Islamic State group onslaught in 2014, further shrinking the country's already dwindling Christian population.
Many Christians who fled the IS prosecution have either stayed in Iraq's Kurdistan region or started new lives abroad.
"I wouldn't say business is bad, but it's also not as good as before. What affected us is migration and the large number of people who left Hamdaniya," said shop keeper Hussam.
Hamdaniya, also known as Baghdeda or Qaraqosh, is in the historical heartland of Iraqi Christianity.
