You are a true inspiration, Lauren. Thank you. I'm 72 and just learning to play an Electric Upright Bass I made. I see now that the acoustic Double Bass is magnificent in the hands of a master such as yourself.
This is beautiful. I am a singer who is learning bass. The temple that I sing at for High Holidays has just told us that we are no longer wanted after singing there for 23 years. This will be the Elegy I learn to honor those memories.
Grazie per condividere questa bellissima esecuzione per contrabasso, suonata da una donna è davvero ancora piu stupefacente, meravigliarsi è bello! A Giovanni ! Cin!
I am learning this piece of music for my senior recital coming in the fall. Hearing you play Elegy motivates me to continue practicing to improve. I have only been playing for 1.5 years, spending countless hours trying to learn and appreciate as I go on this journey. Thank for this magnificent work of art.
Just so beautifully played. I love that you are smiling. Too often we take ourselves way to seriously. Your vibrato is outstanding in expressiveness. Really sounds like a sweet violin a lot of the time.
that moment when the whole song is played on the g string edit: this was a compliment!! playing notes this high on a bass is extremely hard, and this woman is doing it without sounding scratchy!
+Pure Flamboyance Johann Sebatian Bach has a piece nicknamed Air on a G String, I don't hear anyone making fun of him. He is, after all, the greatest composer ever.
Dear Lauren and Hyebin, this was beautiful. I'm surprised i didn't get a notification, as i'm subscribed. I'm still grateful for the lesson you gave me a few years ago!!
I played this for Solo/Ensemble because of you, and seeing this after practicing for several months is so surreal. There are so many little details I glanced over before like how your shifting sounds so natural, or your vibrato being so clear. I'm only like 30 seconds in and already feel the need to practice this piece again. Keep doing you, it's obviously working.
Such a beautiful piece. Having not played myself now for over twenty or so years I still listen to my instrument and are amazed to hear how wonderful it sounds being played so so well. Thank you.
Congratulations, I’m playing this for my final degree exam (Dittersdorf concerto and Kicho Piazzolla) and your version is the most beautiful one I’ve ever heard :)
Beautiful just beautiful. I start my lessons in this awesome instrument next spring. In the meantime, I will watch your tutorials so I can get a head start.
Wow !! This type of piece is not really my style, but you seem enjoy of playing it, maybe I need to change my mind about this Elegie !... I love your interpretation, thanks for this !! Keep Playing !! ❤️
Love seeing your progression as an artist. Interpretation seems nearly identical to Paul Bresciani & William Crawford's recording on Two Octaves Down (2001)
How helpful is having that amount of inlay markers? Do they stay consistently helpful? Are they actually inlayed in permanent or are they decals? ...coming from a guy who makes 3 pencil markings! Love yer work!
I’m a begginer bassist (playing for about 5 months) and I really love this song. I pretty much have the basics of the bass down, such as Vibrato and other mechanics, so when I looked at the sheet music, i was confused on why it switches from Bass clef to Alto. Do songs like this for bass often do that? And if so does that mean I should probably learn alto clef?
LinkoNetwork it's actually bass clef to tenor clef. It is not uncommon for solo bass parts and some timed even orchestral ones to change clef quite a few times so we don't have to read an obscene amount of ledger lines. This piece would be quite a challenge for some one only playing for 5 months. Good for you for trying.
Do you think it's easier to sit or stand when playing? I prefer to stand because sitting has felt uncomfortable for me but anytime i try to go into thumb position it's really hard when standing. Should I try to sit and play ?

🤣🤣🤣
Sac religious
This was just magnificent! I played this for competition last year, which really helped me to learn thumb position and harmonics. This was wonderful!
Oh how funny - when I first learned this piece in college, I learned it for a competition as well! Thanks for watching :)
I've been waiting so long for you to perform this peice. It's my favorite peice
What a beautiful bow hold, along with a magnificent use of bow speed. You truly are an inspiration.

Note d stomaco puro, dio tas stradora! Il dialetto è l'italiano che non c'è più! ciao Fratelli italiani 🇮🇹❤️il cuore è tutto!
Incredible!! I felt like crying half way through, you're such an inspiring bassist Lauren! I can't wait to finish preparing this piece for auditions
Thank you! Best of luck learning it :)
Oh! Revitalizing connection of Lauren's soul and the voice of that exciting romantic double bass...

the most beautiful piece ever composed for double bass, played in a beautiful, emotion filled way. thank you!
Just so beautifully played. I love that you are smiling. Too often we take ourselves way to seriously. Your vibrato is outstanding in expressiveness. Really sounds like a sweet violin a lot of the time.
The bow changes after 3:50 were SO SMOOTH i am speechless!
that moment when the whole song is played on the g string

Certain parts are actually played on D 🤷🏿♂️
Let's see you do it

Beautifully played, fantastic intonation and warmth in the performance.
Wow! Your bass has a nice bright sound and it goes really well with your warm vibrato :D

Put me to tears absolutely gorgeous playing!❤️
Cette élégie est charmante et jouée d'une manière exquise. Les aigües et les graves sont très expressifs. Bravo!
Such a beautiful piece. Having not played myself now for over twenty or so years I still listen to my instrument and are amazed to hear how wonderful it sounds being played so so well. Thank you.
Wow! The sound of your playing is so sweet and smooth yet clear and precise. Immediately fell in love after the first phrase... Just amazing...

You are so amazing! I am sharing this with my friends and family! THANK YOU!!!
I've been a pianist for 12 years and am fully committed to the instrument. Although if i never had played piano, double bass would be my instrument.
Beautiful playing. I am compiling videos for my bass students to listen to while we are social distancing--you will be in heavy rotation!
Brilliant, lovely, and fun watching, thank you!
Thank you!
Beautiful performance, Lauren!
Thanks Paul :)
Beautiful just beautiful. I start my lessons in this awesome instrument next spring. In the meantime, I will watch your tutorials so I can get a head start.
Very nicely done! I am going to go fix my old double bass now - you inspired me to take it up again!
Really can't imagine why 44 dislikes? Guess some people have zero cultural sensibilities? Beautiful playing Lauren x
Wow !! This type of piece is not really my style, but you seem enjoy of playing it, maybe I need to change my mind about this Elegie !... I love your interpretation, thanks for this !! Keep Playing !! ❤️

Awesome Lauren, where can i get the score?
FANTASTIC MUSCIAN!
Do u have the sheet music with all your fingerings?
And bowings
Beautiful! Where did you find the music for this?
I have the Deutscher Verlag edition, but there are many different editions that have been published that you can find online :)
Do you think it's easier to sit or stand when playing? I prefer to stand because sitting has felt uncomfortable for me but anytime i try to go into thumb position it's really hard when standing. Should I try to sit and play ?
Standing is easier on the right hand, sitting is easier on the left
AMAZING!
Great
Bravíssima!!
