I actually think the lightsaber rifle could shoot a more than 5 shots off from a single lightsaber. Think about it... The lightsaber melts after five shots, which to me implies when fired consecutively. However, if you fired one, maybe two, shots and allowed your saber to cool, you could fire it again without a chance of damaging your lightsaber. A lightsaber isn't going to hold the heat generated from being fired forever. Thermodynamics is a law in Star Wars last I checked. Just a thought.

Because that's how it goes IRL, sometimes a new weapon becomes standard issue for decades, other times its something objectively stupid like the Krummlauf, and other times still the creator just straight up takes acid and makes the something like Landstad revolver.

OK, "defending" the EC-17 - that grip trigger isn't all that unconventional actually. In our own history, several different militaries (the US, Britain and Germany, particularly around the early 1900s, till around the 1940s) experimented with different placements for triggers, specifically on weapons like sniper rifles, or for weapons used in colder climates (where the gloves of a soldier would normally impede the use of a "standard" trigger layout. One of the most common ideas was the "thumb trigger" - i.e. activating a trigger using your thumb (the trigger being located on the back of the bolt in the case of bolt-action rifles). Those were generally intended for sniper rifles (as mentioned), with the thinking being that the motion of pulling a conventional trigger might mess with the shooter's aim.

Ezra should eventually go back to his blaster/saber design and refine it. I really liked it.

    • @guts60
      @guts60 5 месяцев назад +6

I think Ezra ditched it the blaster-saber combo for a normal saber because he couldn’t use both at the same time. It was either the lightsaber or the blaster. However, with a regular lightsaber he can use a regular blaster in his other hand freely.
There’s also the fact that he has to put ammo in his saberblaster, usually Tibanna gas, to fire it. Ezra usually uses stun mode, which uses batteries/power cells instead (which are needed for the lightsaber anyway), but it does have a set-to-kill mode that would require Tibanna gas for a proper blaster bolt. Trying to fit that in an ergonomic and practical design is difficult, so the blastersaber’s handguard was likely where he had room for Tibanna gas. But, as you might guess, the handguard design itself is incredibly impractical unless you’re planning to be facing opponents who aim to disarm you by slicing off your hands. It’s what you see on thrusting swords, such as rapiers and estocs and fencing sport swords, aka you need to be heavily focused on thrusting the blade and being thrusted at for the guard to be significantly useful.
I could see a second blastersaber actual work with Ezra made a third saber if he made it longer to hold Tibanna gas inside the actual hilt and got rid of the fencing-esque guard and instead used a crossguard more akin to stereotypical medieval swords that the blaster barrel could fit in. He could even put a side emitter above it to protect the blaster and his hands effectively from lightsaber attacks. In other words, a lightsaber bastard sword with a crossguard that houses the blaster barrel, side emitters (like Kylo Ren or Kestis) to protect the barrel-crossguard, and a longer hilt to allow better two-handed grip as well as to hold the Tibanna gas.

    • @rumsmuggler30
      @rumsmuggler30 5 месяцев назад +2

@guts60 excellent points. He still has his standard saber but I could see him tinkering around. If he ever learned of the lightsaber rifle and combined his knowledge with that design I would wager he could make a version that doesn't need to use a lightsaber as ammunition.

    • @GuardianSage
      @GuardianSage 5 месяцев назад +2

I honestly don't know why he didn't rebuild it in the first place. When his master had borrowed it during the one episode, it was shown to be insanely versatile and useful in ways that Ezra hadn't yet come close to pulling off. Personally, when I saw what it could do, I thought that it might eventually become the basis for a new generation of jedi weapons.

At some point, the normal trigger was removed for some reason, but the guard remained.

  • @MechaWolf0

I have several things I would like to address Alan:
    1) Energy Bow: It's not a question of why... It's a question of "Why not?" A person might choose a bow because it is either more challenging than a blaster or the prefer more elegant weapons. The energy bow also has the advantages that you don't need to reload it and can be taken to worlds where blasters might be banned, but hunting weapons like bows aren't.
    2) Electro-staffs: First off, have you ever been zapped by a car battery? I have and it (bleep)ing hurts! Large doses of electricity can stop your heart and the large nodules can be used to bash an individual's head in. The main reason why they are used so heavily is that they are cheaper than more expensive alternatives like phrink or Cortosis-weave weapons. Star Wars also likes to leave out burns for some reason.
    3) It is not uncommon for rifles to be that long or heavy. Military long arms have had that length for two primary reasons: higher muzzle velocity and being used as spears when fitted with a bayonet to ward off a cavalry charge. To be fair to the Republic, they hadn't had a standing professional army in God knows how long, so they had to start from scratch. Finally, no single weapon is suited for every single mode of engagement or environment. The United States Army still fields shotguns, bolt action sniper rifles, and SMGs in the age of the assault rifle.
    4) The Gamoreeans are using vibro weapons. They just use a rougher and simpler design than the norm. Also, Japan was still encouraging Banzai charges with swords in 1945 for the same reason as the Gamoreeans.

  • @guts60

They could have just as easily put the button inside of the grip and trigger guard. Just a thin button, shaped ergonomically to the grip, pressed right against the grip, all so that the gloves can still fit through perfectly, and requiring only one finger to pull to drastically improve aim and intuitive use. This is also substantially better than a pressure-sensing grip to fire, since squeezing more than one finger to fire will no doubt ruin your aim a ton.
You can then have a switch on the side for the thumb to flip to turn safety on and off (like many firearms) so you don’t accidentally squeeze the button trigger when you don’t mean to, something I can see happening to the pressure-sensitive grip to trigger as well. Accidentally squeeze too hard? Well you misfired and miraculously hit a civilian spaceliner’s thruster causing it to be shot down.

I suppose blaster EC7's a cheap budget blaster as opposed to the blaster imperial officers are using or how imperial army's just gets handed over whatever is confiscated.
Lightsaber rifle is basically a mini Death Star.
Energy bows were pretty useless at taking down Commando or even B2 Battle droids.
DC15 also had a grappling hook build into it and was still preferred to be used by Clone snipers and DMRs.
Gamorrean Guards actually did carry a blaster pistol and their axe was mostly for ceremonial purposes. Luke did pull a blaster from one of them (unless it was from Lando, can't remember).
Even more useless feature put in lightfidget spinner is to have a razor build into it.

I imagine the Energy Bow has a level of versitility to it you don't get out of a Blaster Rifle in how some models could also be designed to fire traditional arrows as well as the plasma bolt arrows.
Plasma Bolt arrows are the standard projectile. Which cuts back on ammo to weight ratio, whilst the weapon's design also lets you potentially use specialized physical arrows too. Something that would be very handy for Hunters. Plasma Bolt Arrows for smaller prey. Specialized physical arrows for targets that cannot be killed and maimed by the standard bolts or if you wanna use a non-lethal arrow projectile.

I had some notes about this video! Any stuff I don't touch on I generally agree with.
    1. The Legends EC-17's preassure trigger is a terrible design idea for a projectile weapon like a blaster, if you for any reason squeeze your blaster (like say if you were in the middle of a battle or something) you would be very prone to an accidental discharge of the weapon.
    2. The Magna Guards staff weapons are not meant to kill, and this is intentional; it's a lot easier to kill an opponent when they're exhausted from being hit with stun prods for the whole fight. Most weapons are designed to get an enemy to stop fighting, and sometimes killing is a big part of that, but sometimes getting an enemy to just be stunned on the ground is more than enough.
    3. The DC-15 as a battle rifle isn't necessarily a bad idea, a long; cumbersome rifle isn't much of a problem when most fighting takes place between 35-150 meters
    4. I agree about the inquisitor's lightsaber, it reflects the Imperial Militaries' philosophy; They're very good at dealing with small groups of, untrained paramilitaries; but when it comes to fighting an *actual trained military force* they are horrible, for example: the AT-AT is huge and imposing and most infantry weapons can't even put a dent in it, but 3 fighters and a Y Wing would annihilate a whole column of AT-ATs, assuming they had no air support to fight them.

Electrostaffs have the tip specifically to deflect lightsaber blasts I think. It’s a really cheap way to do it considering the alternative would basically be getting a whole kyber crystal and giving each droid you want to make essentially their own lightsaber. The separatists are all about cheap, easy, mass produced weapons.

Having an energy field as your bowstring is a bad idea. The best form for archery often requires the archer and the bow to be perfectly aligned with each other. There's a reason why most archers wear some sort of protection along the inside of the arm holding the bow. I can say from personal experience shooting a 25lb target shooting bow that string can sting.

    • @johnnydjiurkopff

Exactly what I was thinking. It's pretty obvious by that point alone whoever came up with that weapon never actually shot a bow in their life

  • @AnkhWolf

    Two questions and an observation
Q1 Does the lightsaber rifle damage the kyber crystal or does it just melt the Mechanical components of the lightsaber through enery overload and thermal build up?
Q2 Can the energy bow be used as a melee weapon? I.e flip it around and use the bow string to cut through people like its some offspring of a lightsaber and a bat'leth?
O1 Wasn't the point of the electro tips on the electrostaff for psychological effects as well as to cause muscle spasms when used against Jedi so as to give the three other magnaguard attaching them an opening?

The holdout blaster and the inquisition lightsabers are awful designs for a military force. Like you said, all flash and no substance. It was funny how the scout troopers in The Mandolorian showed how crummy the design was. Equally so when Kanaan or Ahsoka defeated the Inquisitors.
It harkens back to the weird futuristic weapons you'd see in 1950's sci-fi which were equally low budget affairs like the 1st Star Wars. In universe though, inexpensive but moderately functuonal is what you happens when you have a galaxy wide military to outfit.

If the DC-15 was fully automatic, or could be turned from semi to auto to semi again via a switch, I could see it being a lot more useful. Even still, it is limited to open battlefields, firing from an open LAAT from above, ambushes that you don’t plan to jump out of cover from (no charging in), and from defensive positions. And with the carbine variant it would still see more use because you have the same fire rate in a more reliable and useful package in exchange for some accuracy that your clone firing squad makes up for.

Actually the DC-15 carbine variant has always existed alongside the battle rifle. If you look closely during the battle of Geonosis in Attack of the Clones, you can see a clone captain and a few troopers with the smaller DC-15 when the gunship with Windu arrives behind the lines.

Funny enough most people are just one handing weapons in Star Wars especially pistol sized ones. When in reality we put both hands to fire more accurately.
But I guess the scout pistol is rly meant only for emergency and wasn’t built for accuracy. But funny enough it was used by scout troopers which are supposed to be a scout unit and giving them a terrible back up weapon is such an empire thing to do.

I've always severely hated the inquisitor's lightsaber design. Your right, the spinning feature is really just a flashy but entirely impractical gimmick. The ring is just a dumb idea, but the absolutely worst part is that stupid helicopter ability. Lightsabers just don't work that way. There's no way a lightsaber blade can generate lift like that at all. It's as cringy as it is silly.

The DC-15A really only has the receiver of the MG34 (even that‘s modified), it‘s mainly meant to act as a battle rifle as you said. Star Wars also has the DLT-19 which is literally the MG34 but it‘s used as a light machine gun, sniper rifle, and a battle rifle (the DLT-19D, mostly with the Death Troopers), I usually just assume that the DC15A is just the Star Wars equivalent of the M1 Garand where the DC15S is the equivalent of something like the M1 Carbine.

The lightsaber rifle worked perfectly fine in the Jedi-Sith wars period. There were plenty of used lightsabers laying around from all the dead on all those battlefields. Lots of ammo. You use the Force to eject the melted, spent ammo and just pop in another fallen comrade's weapon to let them take just five more swings at the enemy from beyond the grave. Great use of a plentiful resource that was completely untapped.
Now in any other era, it is pretty much a useless weapon.

in defense of the scout blaster, aligning a passing speeder with the squeeze fire blaster could be effectively employed if you aim center of the enemy bike's vector while maintaining a cross-longitudinal view & let the windage play hit the front or back of a speeder while elevation is held steady.
your speeder could maybe even serve as the elevation adjustment without changing your x/y course. need that mando technique 💯

Also, if you have to squeeze your entire hand or multiple fingers to fire, it WILL throw off your aim. There is a reason why triggers have remained relatively unchanged for many long centuries… They Work.

No wonder scout troops always shoot to the left too. As their grip tightens to press that button (which I assume is super stiff to prevent negligent discharges when holstered) their hands will naturally shift to the left. Not only does this make accurate shooting near impossible on a pinch which you’d need for a holdout blaster, follow up shots will be very slow. 0/10 weapon, you’d be better off with a knife.
