I borrowed a TLM 103 for a month, Then I bought a sure SM7B because that's all I wanted to spend, I was never happy until I bought a TLM 103. The sure Mike sounds great if you've never used A103, It's hard to go down in quality.

Thanks for this. I'm starting up with rap and was worried I made the wrong choice with the TLM because it might clip. After listening to the sheer difference between these two...I'll find a way to not clip; the sheer quality difference between these two is INSANE, and enough to justify doing a few extra takes to make sure everything remains in bounds.

Also the perfect microphone is that what the best for his one voice is. Michael Jackson used a sm7 (not the sm7b they sound different) and his songs are mind blowing. The TLM 103 are so often used because its works on many voices,. But a better choice is a Weissklang V17 also handcraftet in Germany or Gefell m930 is also handcraftet in Germany.
The CDawgVA mic(TLM103) is hella smooth. It's definitely better than the SM7B, but not +$800 better? Not to me.
If I had the cash I'd buy it for sure. But the money saved on the SM7B could be used to soundproof a small bedroom studio.

i think its because he had all the room with no loud & acoustic panels. If your room its noisy you better keep it.
The cover may add a bit of color to the microphone. Just wanted to try to make it as fair as possible.

What’s your favourite microphone , I purchased the rode nt1a but sent it back it was quiet harsh on vocals and didn’t sound to good as my voice is like yours what mic would you Recommend
for that price range id get the Rode NT1 (not NT1A) $250,
At2035 $150 (great 4 da price)
AT4040 $300 (similar to the NT1)
and if none of those work get a dynamic like a SM57/58 or SeV7
$100 (theyre usually great at vocals, contrary to what many people think they were actually designed as studio microphones! but got popular as live microphones, theyre a great option especially for bedroom studios as dynamic mics tend to not capture room sounds as much as condenser which is a great think for bedroom artists)

Tlm102 shits on the tlm103 and it’s cheaper. That’s coming from someone that’s owned a u87, and a tlm103.
Great mic for vocals. Tlm103 has a weird presence boost that makes it difficult to sit in the mix.
Yeah…I like the fullness and warmth of the 103 but that presence boost can definitely be annoying.
@@KelliMusic check out the 102 if you haven’t already. I think you will like it. Definitely the best sounding mic Iv used for the price. Just picked one up for $450 used.

I think the 103 is way better.
Tlm 103 is lower noise floor because the gain u need is lower then with 102.. 103 is the same as 102 sound wise but with extras and extra dbs.. 103 is superior fuck outta here and I got a u87ai 2!!! I like the tlm 103 even better then my u87😂all these 102 nerds have been to much on gearslutz 😂😂but never been to real studios all you’re favorite artists /rappers use a 103 or 87ai with reason !!
