PART 1: Learn from my experience from one year of owning a Class B RV, a 2019 Winnebago Travato GL, including living and working full-time since February 2019. In PART 2 of the (separate) video I make 17 specific recommendations for improving your RV experience from my on-the-road experience. Please subscribe to my channel, like, and post your comments and questions !
Any van that can accommodate half a gallon of 1/2 & 1/2 is going to be near the top of my list. Thanks for the great tour and video. Glad I found your channel!
I really hope Winnebago watches these reviews! Great job as always Scott, keep up the good work buddy! Looking into getting a gl in a year or so and I hope by then these issues will be addressed. Safe trips 👍✌️
Your videos are so beneficial to me. I have a travel trailer which I will be letting go. Although I like the idea of building my own custom van, being realistic, that prob wont work for me. The best option I have found so far is the Winnebago Travato GL. It is a new unit and I trust that Winnebago will work out the kinks. I hope they watch your videos and read the comments to incorporate the changes that will make this great RV even better!
What a great video that you put out this week. I really enjoyed your good things about your rig and the bad things of your rig. You always put some kind of tidbit of information into your videos that other travato youtubers don't add. I look forward to your videos and I have been a subscriber since your second video. What amazes me is that how much you have grown as a full time RVer. Keep up the great work, Scott.
Congratulations on one year in your Travato! Thank you for your honest assessment. I enjoy your videos and am looking forward to year two. Happy New Year.
Scott, Great video we just sold our 2019 Travoto 59G, it was a love hate relationship! Loved the design and layout, HATED, HATED HATED the roof mount AC unit, even on the lowest setting it sounded like a jet engine at 200 decibels and you could also hang a side of beef in to it was so cold. I noticed C class units twice the size of the Travoto with the exact same AC unit? Second thing we could not stand was programming the Truma system, really frustrating! Our new Airstream has AC with ductwork and a switch to on hot water, so nice! Everything you mentioned that was good is very true! Keep up the good work! Former Travoto owner!
thought to beat an airstream. Ducted AC is the way to go, and is available on an Embassy RV. Thanks for continuing to watch and comment. Which airstream did you get?
We purchased a 23' Flying Cloud along with a 2020 Ram truck with a topper to haul our kayaks and Rad Wagon electric bike (which is phenomenal) we also hauled them on the hitch of the Travato. The electric bike is a must have, maybe you good do a review on them? Keep up the great work! In Covid times you are escape! Be safe, Bill
thx for that. Winnebago has not compensated me $.01 for anything. But they have been gracious to help me make videos and come on my RV Show, What’s Up Wednesday !?
Hi Scott! It's Claire (from Forest Park - and Campit). Just wanted to let you know that I am LOVING your RUclips channel. I'm so envious of this adventure you're on, but am enjoying being able to "follow along."
Hi Forest Park Claire!!! Making you further envious by saying I am in Tampa FL now where it will be 82 degrees tomorrow and 65 degrees tonight. Perfect summer RV weather in mid-January. Appreciate you watching and taking time to comment.
Scott, that was very well done. I really liked BOTH lists. Very impressed with the build quality (You've been in it now for 2 years, at least 30 States & over 50k miles- and, it still looks great!) The Ram Promaster has treated you guys well, there have been really small, repairable issues addressed (not too many!) & you are happy with the Sumo springs upgrade for increased ground clearance & improved ride. Really huge endorsement of the product- in a backhanded sort of way? Really, really impressed with the video & your overall success in making it work. It probably helps that you have NOT had to live in a service parking lot for a long time as well. Bonus for team GSLL!
@@gosmall.livelarge Thank you, Scott! I DID watch it...ahem, after I posted the above comment. It's the ADHD, can't focus long enough to watch a channel in order, and- too lazy to look for something more recent! The transmission was a 2 week bummer, but- mostly (still) its been pretty robust. I know that you've lost that deep trust you had for the 1st year, but- actually, the Ram & the Winnebago have done you right considering 60k+ miles & full time living in it. (However, you and your currently bald pardner have done a very good job of maintaining it as a 'home', instead of a car.)
Thanks for the review. My idea was to teach from my van, so hopefully you will have figured it out. I will need that extra money to supplement a teacher’s retirement. Gotta have dimmable lights. Shower drain is unacceptable and I think things were meant to only last less than a year. Pleasure way has a 5 year warranty and I love them.
Happy 1 year of ownership!!! My 5 month vanniversary (of full-timing) was yesterday and I agree with almost everything you've said. I actually can't wait to get to my house in Texas this week so I can take EVERYTHING out of "Lucille" and purge/reload. I do love my Remis windshield shade but it completely fell apart so that's one thing that I'll be getting fixed soon. Other than that I have been happy with my rig so far. My biggest issue is space and feeling like I am living in a car. But that's not the van's fault, its the trade off for having something I can drive/park anywhere. Hopefully reorganizing will help. PS: If you are worried about your dinette seats getting dirty Pack-n-Play sheets are a perfect fit for washable cushion covers. Happy New Year!
Lucille!!! Love that name. Yeah, I think purging will help. Consider removing warning labels if you haven't done that already. Might put up stickers and artwork inside Lucille. I found that made a BIG difference for me personalizing Lily instead of looking like a Travato at a dealer. Appreciate you sharing TGW!
Really great video. Seems like u really thought thru all the issues. As well as pointing out thru your issue what many businesses do to make money and not satisfy, or keep safe, their customers. That being said, they have Come a long way with these homes on wheels. Keep on rolling and providing great content.
Thank you for sharing your experiences...good or bad. Hopefully Winnebago is watching/listening and taking notes, making corrections and improvements on already outstanding product.
"...but wait wheres the rv?" 😁😎 Love it! Scott thank you...you are and continue to help my with educating me on getting into the class b van rv. This floor plan still is the most flexible I've found for me. Great REAL application and view of ownership! Plus the Volta system and gasoline ran 😁😎
Congratulations on your vaniversary. Your videos along with TOWB Facebook site were instrumental in my decision to purchase a 2020.5 GL in November. Have been loving getting to know it the last few months. I appreciate your sharing the good and bad. It’s a well produced mass market vehicle and no one else has the VOLTA system. GL floor plan is great for me also being a cyclist. Look forward to your videos each week. Thank, Reggie from SC.
Hi Chad n Paul. Yeah internet is such a challenge. I found some creative ways to get great WiFi. Video coming very soon. Thanks for watching and commenting. I’m following your channel too! Nice to see another couple dudes in a Travato!!!
You're really selling me on this RV and this floorplan. I need room for a litter box and was happy to see there's room in the bathroom. The biggest drawback for me is the size of the bed. My fella is 6'2" and I'm 5'5" and the bed looks just big enough for me.
Scott, my man good to hear from you and 30,000 miles during your first year. Frankly, based on your video it still sounds as you are still quite happy in your Travato 59GL. I am still working full -time and still care taking for my father before I can go full-time. I am still looking at the Travato 59GL and the Pleasure Way Lexor Front Lounge. I hope to attend the Florida Super Show in Tampa. Journey on!
I've missed seeing you measure things!! (Smiling!) Congratulations on your one year anniversary. Luke seems very content being a traveling cat! Travato 59G is still my favorite....I look at all the new models from Winnebago and other places and I just find none compares to this one!! Wishing you a Happy New Year....may 2020 find you discovering new adventures in our great country!!
The only fixable problem i had at 60,000 miles was the toilet connection clamp to tube was loose, tightened and added sealant all OK:) My model still had the long three way propane fridge which as we and i know does not work at all, Winnebago FINALLY agreed also and NOW uses compressor fridges now. These are excellent used.
WOW WOW WOW... I am so excited for your TLG. Can you hardly wait or what? I'd be curious to learn about how you arrived at the purchase decision of your KL from Mick at WMH. Drop me an email if you'd like (GoSmallLiveLarge@gmail). Eager to learn about your Travato travel plans.
One year, 28 states and only 30,000 miles. I drove from FL to Alaska and home and it was 16k miles. I'm not following your math, sorry. I agree with many of the posts; too much clutter. We (wife and I along with our Australian Sheppard) RV with a 15' teardrop trailer pulled by a Jeep Grand Cherokee and we work hard to be comfortable but not surrounded by "stuff". For us, being neat and organized allowed us to enjoy the journey as well as the destination. Reason I point this out; we camped next to a young lady of 65 who lived in a Travato year round and had been so for several years. She told us it was fun at first but she quickly realized that she was trying to live in her Travato as she had in her home and after only a few months she was regretting her decision. Then she met a group of like minded individuals who gave her some great advice. Take everything out of the Travato and repack with what you need not what you want or think you may need. Put the rest into storage and travel a few months and see if things aren't better. She took their advice and and it made a huge difference in her life. She jokingly told us she hasn't been to her storage unit in a year since she packed it. You mention you can boon dock as you generate your own power and I'm guessing your fridge is electric/propane. Have you considered upgrading to an electric/propane/solar powered model?
I agree with your decision to go with Winnebago and agree with almost everything on your list. The cabinets and overall colors on these models are not very appealing, but the white vs dark would make it seem more spacious without a doubt. The drawers vs cabinet is also an excellent idea as I have these in my home. My drawers are much more used than the cabinets. Plug placement is also a pet peeve of mine but I have to say It looks like you have it setup nicely. Last but certainly not least Volta is a must. Nice video, thank you.
excellent video to watch before buying. thank you so much for giving me the reality hings to think about as i fantasize about the starry eyed dreams, so practical and I appreciate.
I agree with your general assessment of the Travato, it is a really well designed and executed rig. However I have had more warranty issues with my pro master van, you have to go to Dodge for these issues.I have a 2016 pro master 3500 and have had the following replaced at no cost to me: In dash radio (distress message on screen was in Italian), Driver side half axle (Bad/torn grease boot, probably caused by something I hit), battery (shorted cell), just recently at 30,000 miles recall/replaced solenoid pack in transmission, still another recall issue to replace engine cooling fan when replacement is available. The biggest issue I had was with the alignment. It was way out of Dodge's specification. It needed a major four wheel alignment. I am pleased with the response and repair results I have received from Dodge. In every issue, they addressed it and fixed it. However, I wish there were less issues. I'd also like to add that I added sumo springs front and rear. In addition I replaced the rear anti-sway bar (Roadmaster brand), and now the rig goes like an arrow straight and true. I really do like the way this rig drives, sips gas (16MPG), comfortable seats and wide view of the road.
George, by what you know now as far as your pro master van, would you reccomend it to me or another model of van. There are many nice vans out there..Also, do they come with solar? I now, been thinking of purchasing one but can't decide on which one as of yet... help me, please~
PAULA O I have a 2020 Promaster and the reason I prefer it to Ford or Mercedes is the interior is wide enough for a sideways bed. The issues reported in Promaster are in earlier models irritations pre 2017. The Promaster has fewer electronic aids like the lane keeping warnings etc. which I don’t want in my van. The interior I had built for me at Custom Coach Creations in DeLand Florida. Time will tell but they built to my design and they took great care to do what I want and do it well. Less than $90,000 including tax and title etc...They build what you want on whatever vehicle you want. Built by hand. Hope that helps.
If anyone is not a fan of the 2020 Travato 59G (prior to the changes) all you need do is see the new version. Once you see the new model in person you will love the older model. Honestly I got a chance to see the new version yesterday and based on the construction quality and the much higher list price I doubt I would ever consider Winnebago again. We are extremely happy with our 2019 59K with the dark non glossy cabinets. The new model I saw yesterday was shockingly awful. I've seen better cabinetry in the furniture section of Wal-Mart. Winnebago better get their act together because other brands are going to eat their lunch.
If the tank heater pads still work , simply tape them up using some 3m tape or similar. I installed my solar panel on the fiberglass roof of my old Coachman Saratoga using just Eterna Bond . Still holding after 4 years and 40,000 miles.
I agree with you about the capacity of the tanks being small. The counter to that is there is only so much room and weight the vehicle can carry. The Boldt has a large capacity for all its tanks and the LP but they have to 4 tires on the back axle. I thought about the Boldt and if they had the G floor plan for it I might have been tempted
Hi, Scott. Excellent, well-balanced review. I understand that the Ram Pro Master van has no driver’s seat height adjustment. Is this true? If so, it would make this setup unusable for really short (or tall) drivers. I believe that I would like the same floor plan in a Ford Transit platform. Also, the small tank capacities in the Travato may not work for me. Thank you for the excellent work!/Warren
Your videos have my wife and I are seriously interested in buying a small RV. We went to a LaMesa RV show in Scottsdale and couldn't believe the high quality of the Travato and its more thought out interior compared to the other RVs at the show. (The travel trailers at the show had especially terrible quality.) It's interesting that Winnebago is making their Class Bs to a higher standard than the rest of their product line based on what we saw at the RV show.
I’m with you. Good job on doing your research. Might check out my paid-partner, Embassy RV (www.embassyrv.com) and their innovative approach to Class B RV systems. Not for everyone, and for me it boils down to Volta and the floor plan to make the Class B experience over the top! Thanks for watching and taking time to comment
Loved your review. I am trying to get my wife to try the RV traveling. Glad to hear the good report about Winnebago in Rockford. I really want to take a look at the 59GL as well. If you are handy, you might try one of the pop-up ac receptacles at are used in other RVs to solve your outlet placement issues. Search "pop up outlet" on Amazon for a bunch of them. I installed one on my desk at home. It should be fairly easy to wire it into the back of the GFCI outlet below the galley counter. This would maintain the GFCI protection around the wet sink area.
There are currently recalls out on the Promaster for the Transmission Solenoid and problems with the Radiator Fans overheating and causing fires. Please check to see if your vehicle might be on the list. I have a 2016 PM van camper van. Otherwise, it's a great vehicle, 18.6 mpg, and that's pulling a trailer with a Ural Sidecar Motorcycle. If you ever make it to Buffalo NY, look us up.
We lived in our K for a year with our cat Maximus. We sold ours 6 months ago. I loved it, my husband not so much. Once our warranty ended, everything started falling apart.
Thank-you for the info, very helpful. Love this vehicle, but I have to say, propane is much more energy dense than batteries for cooking and heating, plus I want an oven. Also, have you ever seen a Lithium Mine? Lithium is extremely toxic and polluting to dispose of, and I shouldn't be left without power/ability to heat and cook because of software, geez. Old school propane all the way for me.
That's an interesting comment. I'm not some big environmentalist, but I do get very annoyed with how camping produces a huge waste stream. I told my wife "no bottled waters" and then we ended up using quite a few anyhow due to various circumstances. Trash trash trash...
Yeah, that Travato warranty sucks and with all the other great vans out there that have better warranties......., it really is a deal breaker for me. I just don't like it when a company doesn't have the faith, to say their product is good. And a long warranty for me, says "we have a great product, buy from us". Thanks for your video, I'm on the cusp of buying a rig myself and it really helped!
It's great to hear your thoughts on +/- of the Travato after one year and 30K miles. I agree with all that you have said especially ground clearance. I have the 2020.5 version that comes with the sumo springs (which is now standard feature) and it's still not enough. I would like to see another 6-8" of clearance. A couple of other items I would put on the negatives for the the T: Radio & video screen is horrible and there is no Apple Play??. My standard iPhone has a bigger screen. I put an Alpine radio with a 9.5" screen what a difference. Great thing about this addition is that it will also give information about the car engines in digital numbers including tire pressure. No spare tire rack. That should at least be an option from Winnebago not making us go to 3rd parties for this feature. The only problem I've had with mine so far is faulty Tire Pressure Monitors. In three months I am on my 3rd set. Frustrating. I still love this van. Looking forward to your internet video because that is a big problem for me as well
Thank you for the review....One correction re: heating efficiency. The most efficient heating system (BTUs in vs BTUs out) is electric or resistance heating. The efficiency of electric heating is basically 100 percent. My guess is that your propane heater is in the area of 86 or so percent efficient. Lots of heat from your propane heater goes out the vent. That doesn't happen with electric heat. Most people confuse efficiency with cost..two different terms.
Thanks James. Appreciate your technical analysis. I was referring to consumption of resources for the amount of heat. The Truma is super efficient with the propane burn too. Thx for watching and taking time to comment
Maybe so, but electric heat in a home is the most expensive type and having lived in a house like that, it never feels truly warm ever. Contrast with a wood stove or pellet stove, maybe it is the humidity I don't know, but electric heat sucks.
Can the TV be moved to a better spot? Also I think there is too much stuff above the back seat. I would rather see it neatly put away so a child cannot tinker with my settings.. also can you lock the gas tank? I wish it was cleaner looking on the outside. On the driver’s side, there is too much visible stuff. I really like your channel and I follow you faithfully. Thinking about visiting Rockford to look at one. I think I want a self build van because there is too much devices that can be much simpler and cheaper and made for me. Right now, Winnebago has me depending on pricing. LOVE THE FRIG, BED, AND TABLE SITTING IN FRONT! I am not confident that I can operate this van because it seems very difficult. Do they give free classes to help you operate it confidently. I’m a female and men have always taken care of the mechanics in my life. Now I’m alone. I’m happy, but I want a mini RV to escape, yet be very comfortable.
Hi Lena. Appreciate your thoughtful comments. - TV, not many places to put it. It does swing away from the wall so one could sit in the trend around passenger cab seat and watch with great comfort. - Definitely pay a visit to Mick at Winnebago Motor Homes in Rockford. Spend ample time sitting, standing, walking, laying down in, and test driving the Travato. Once you get used to the size (like a large Suburban style vehicle) I think you will manage very well. The van is very easy to drive. You will likely love the seating position being up high in traffic. - Lots of single ladies Travatoing on the road. Your Travato comes with a "built-in family". Check out the Facebook group Travato Owners and Wannabees and see how we/they support each other. Look forward to seeing you commanding the road in your new Travato! Grab your RV freedom :)
I just discovered your channel today when I was watching the one with you and the "30, and wake up" guy discussing the your model and his. Originally, I wanted the one with the two single beds...now you've convinced me that the murphy bed is a much better choice for me. Just one question about your cat. It looks like he was on a leash when he was outside. Does he ever bolt for the door when you're getting out or do you hook him up to a tether before opening doors? Thanks. I've subscribed.
Welcome to GSLL. Thrilled to have you part of this amazing audience. Cat Luke gets leashed attached prior to leaving the rig. He is not a jumper, which is helpful.
Howdy Scott from Laredo Texas hope we cross paths as I head back to Alabama. I wish they offered the all electric option when I bought my Travato. My biggest negative is the shower drain, I followed your idea of the cheese cloth and metal drain cover. Thank you.
Scott Have you found any bed component idea that can use the new 2022 seats for your legs and your torso/head can rest on a make shift bed frame where the jump seat is on your 2021 travato?
Loved renting the KL model... we had an issue with losing all battery power because I didn't realize Mix 1 was using electric and gas for heating (got down to 26 degrees at night). Should have kept it at Gas only. Because of this experience, I am a little concerned with the Embassy all electric no propane RV. What are your thoughts? At 12:25 you mention water not draining through. Not sure what you mean. We had city fill at RV park and kept gray water open so it would drain. Can you clarify? Thanks for sharing your experiences! Very helpful!! Be seeing you!
Embassy uses a different heating system that draws from the chassis fuel tank it doesn’t use electric ], though it might be an option like the Travato. My suggestion would be to have a chat with Terry at Embassy TV for the details to give you comforts on their approach. With winter here (sometimes I forget being in FL now) might be good to do a video on heating a rig So glad you liked your KL experience
Congratulations on your 1 year Vanniversary. The Travato 59g layout is being on my list because of the bench seat, but that is also what is holding me back from purchasing one. to me I don't find it comfortable, the back is too straight. Another one that I like the layout is the new Winnebago Solis. By looking at the pictures you could tell the bench seats are more comfortable but is lacking the Volta system, I wish they could offer the Solis with a similar system as the GL and KL.
Vanniversary!!! Love it :) The back rest on the dinette bench seat doesn't have much lumbar support. I think that might be because it converts into a bed. I solved the lumbar issues with (literally) a Dollar Tree $1 pillow. I tuck it behind me and perfectly adds the right amount of lumbar support without taking up any "storage" room.
Thanks for all the great content! I’ve been binge watching for the last week. I plan to pickup my new 2021 Travato 59G in about two weeks. It happened fast - I found this unit just last week available coming off dealer demo stock at a good $ - had $ down on a travel trailer but feel the Class B would be easier to drive-and-go. Do you have a video or tips on what we should do when we pick up from the dealer? Checklist of must have items for initial setup?
WOW!!! Michelle… I’m so excited for you. You came up with a great idea for a video. Adding it to my queue (which is lengths). My tips would be: #1 Do a thorough walk through with your dealer to understand to more complex system in the Travato, such a electrical. YOU work each of the main systems with their coaching. #2 Don’t buy a bunch of stuff to load up your Travato. Buy as you go and load a few things from your residence. #3 Stay overnight in your driveway for a few nights, single night at first, and a consecutive 48 hours the next time to get a feel for all systems, including toilet, shower and sink #4 Test your electrical system running with solar and generator with AC and test your propane system for cooking, heat, and hot ware. #5 First “trip” should be to a near by RV Park or Campground up to 2 hours away. This allows you to test the systems and items that you have packet in from your residence. #6 At the campground or RV park do your “Tank Duty” of emptying tanks and filling tank. After that, you should feel quite confident in your Travato expertise! Congrats again on getting your vanlife. Your journey is getting underway :)
Thank you Scott, one topic I didn’t see is the spare tire and tools to change. Where are they kept. Does it even come with the tools or does Ram give a can of tire fix. Like some high end cars have today. Thank you. Have a great day. 👌
Scott, Thanks for the video as it provided an excellent, and IMO fair perspective on the Travato GL. Hopefully, the folks at Winnebago are listening and will be implementing those recommendations that you have suggested. What is your opinion on purchasing an extended warranty for the Travato?
Great point Stephen on the extended warranty, which I actually purchased on my Travato. I need to dig out the paperwork to get the details. Stay tuned!
@@gosmall.livelarge Scott, will do, and maybe you could do a video about the subject of an extended warranty (pros/cons), and see what other RV owners are doing/have done. Thanks!
I always enjoy watching your videos and will help us to choose the right class b with this type of chassis. I have a friend of mine who has a 2019 Lexor FL from PW and after 9 months of ownership I think the quality of his Lexor fl is superior compered to your Winnebago Travato. So what do you think? could you make a comment about it?. Thank you and safe travels.
Just getting an understanding of that product so stay tuned. Same with roadside assistance! Good to hear from you Colorme. Been a while. Was getting worried about you!
Outstanding run down of the hits and misses of a Travato owner! Just saw your channel the first time, and enjoyed the upfront delivery. Fit RV's Travato has so many modifications, have you considered adopting any of them for yours?
FitRV has done some significant mods )modifications). I really haven’t done many at this point that are permanent. that may change, but cool with things mostly as they are currently
Hi Scott I have a question for you not sure how to reach out but thought I just leave a comment on. your video. Do you turn off your house circuit board the main switch before you plug and or unplug to shore power? thanks
Hi there… with my Volta Pure3 lithium that system I simply leave it on all the time. When plugging into shore power I turn the circuit off at the utility pole. I connect the power cord to the van and to the utility pole, and use my surged protector. When everything is connect I turn the breaker on at the utility pole. Volta adjust automatically to the incoming shore power. Great question… thanks for asking
No storage Todd in the jump seat. Prior to 2022, the Travato 59G contains the water tank and the 59GL contains Volta gear including inverter/charger. 2022 model year elimated that jump seat
Question: I am thinking about moving my hoses into the rear "closet" like you have but I'm worried about them being wet from use and then sitting in there and messing up the cabinetry (further.) Do you use anything in the bottom of the cabinet to catch drips and debris or just not sweat it? Thanks!
Hi GTW. Just watched your 6 mo Travato ownership vid. Nice work. All should watch that for a perspective form a different owner. As to your question, I’m using the cloth style hoses. They dry out very quick if not to wet. But if soaked, for example from using the ‘grey fresh water hose” to wash the rig then it put it on the bathroom floor t0 dry out before] hanging up in the utility closet. Also I make sure the Hose is empty of water before storing them by rolling them from one end to the other to empty it of H2O
Nice video, thank you! The problem with awning windows is that you lose all stealth. When you open those windows everyone knows someone is inside. I will keep the slider windows. But the 100% electric, I would purchase in a second. I just wish they did not put it in that case below the RV leaving only a 6" ground clearance, very tough to self-service and the system itself is way too complicated. Should have been built with LiFePO4 chemistry and a DIY mentality (I have built lithium battery banks and it is easy). If it was built with some simple Battle Born Batteries it would be perfect and it would last a lot longer. But my battery banks do not have that extra dedicated alternator which I do think is very cool. My battery systems that I built have the batteries, solar panels, controller, inverter, and a DC to DC charger, easy for anyone to DIY and fix if needed.
Do you use any breakable dishes? Like coffee mugs? How do you store them during travel to keep them from breaking? Tank size does seem low. Have you considered a composting toilet?
Hi Carol. For the first month in my Travato I had glass plates, mugs, and glassware. Quickly figured out paper cups and plates wasn't efficient use of space nor water resources. I haven't missed the "fancy" stuff in my Travato. However, when I go to a friends house or a restaurant, I am now treated to traditional flatware and dishes, which gives a smile for the simple pleasure.
Hi Greg. Never considered a trailer. Largely because of the set up and take down required to spend the night someplace. I wanted more mobility and to simply put the rig and park and have camp set up. I’m envious of their space and having a separate tow vehicle perhaps but I’m not envious of these set up and take down. Always is entertaining to see that happen in a campsite.
I wanted to ask your opinion on the Solis PX. I currently have a Navion and I am trying to decide on a class B. I am between the G and the Solis PX. I want a basic vehicle. I am not very mechanical and would like simple but nice. I like the layout of both but I think the Solis might be a better fit. I am a little afraid of the complexity of the Lithium systems.
Solis is a nice rig. Poptop is a big component of that RV. My advice is to decide how often you'd use it. Volta Pure3 makes Lithium so simple yet very powerful. Nothing to be worried about with that system. Drive to make your own electricity. Near 0 completixity to the system
@@gosmall.livelarge thanks for your response. I will be driving it a few times during the week and then every weekend. I think I am going to go with the Lithium. Now I need to find a NPF. Thanks
I think by adding a small green live plant really helps making a T more home like. Wife and I are going to purchase either a Travato K or an Embassy RV twin bed model. Have talked with Terry several times, he is so nice, and Embassy prices seem to be great for what you get. After watching Ultramobility's video comparing the K. vs the. KL , is it worth the money?? We decided on the K, because we will only use our so vacations and short trips. If we were like you or others that traveled many months/year we would go for the KL. Thanks again, and have a safe and Happy. 2020!
The Embassy team is amazing. Can’t go wrong with a Travato either! Get Volta. Difficult to judge the freedom of the Pure3 system provides on a “spreadsheet “. Excited to see you grab your RV Freedom soon!
Great review, been considering up grading from my Roadtrek 170 that works well for what I use it for. I like the Roadtrek SRT because of the shorter wheel base but the Travato G has a lot of great options. None of these would fit in my garage so I'd have to build a car port. Take care
Go Small. Live Large!, yes it's on the RT 170 is on the Chevy 2500 Express Chassis so it can pretty much be repaired anywhere. It is small but that just makes it easier to drive and park in the garage. Something slightly bigger like the Travato would be great for extended trips when my wife and I officially retire next year. I love the fold down bed because you could easily fit 4x8' construction lumber inside. Good luck!
Hey TL... though I use Apple Maps 99% of the time, I carry a Rand McNally paper atlas map book tithing to help me see the bigger picture than a digital map. As for maps with bridge heights, there are some out there that warn of low clearance. I haven’t had to call upon such a tool at this point, relying on watching cleanse signs. Anything less than 11’ causes me to pause and my cleanse is just under 10’. Maybe a viewer can help with the apps that warn on height.
Scott thanks. So those places you counted is that a book of campsites and if it is where can I get one for my brother as a gift. He just purchased a 2022 Travato GL. Thanks again.
Scott I need to find the video where I saw you counting the states or campsites. So people like me would rather hold a large book in my hands and read about it then to look on a tablet or computer. Thank. John Houli. Houlihan
Hey Rho Cap. I’m opportunistic on oil changes, either Jiffy Lube, Valvoline or a dealer if in for service. Thanks for watching and taking time to comment
great van ! btw, i've read that the Winnebago/Sprinter gets 20-22 mpg but the Travato get only 14-16 ? i wouldn't mind paying a couple of cents more at the pump but saving a lot on dollars on the total bills, if thoses infos are right.
Better mileage on diesel, but you pay a premium for Mercedes on many levels. Diesel is always $.50 to $1 more per gallon for the fuel itself. It is a balancing act, but I prefer the simplicity and inexpensive nature of the gasoline engine.
Interesting idea. Got me thinking. Shekhar. I found a 6 gallon (twice as much water as my 3 jugs) in an Igloo brand water container that might fit in the same location in about the same amount of space. I will investigate and report back. Thanks for the thought
I like them both. Very different rigs with different "purposes". You will want to do your homework carefully. Ram vs Sprinter is just one obvious huge difference.
yeah, it is a issue. 59G shower drain fix… remove the white drain cover. remove the screen filter housed inside the drain cover. replace the drain cover. get cheese cloth and cut into 6x6 inch square. place cheese cloth over the drain cover tucking edges down around drain cover to hold it Place. purchase a a peerless stainless steel drain cover to place over the entire drain. that allows filter shower water to be pumped out without clogging during your shower. replace the cheese cloth about every 3 showers depending how dirty it becomes. clean the secondary filter under the galley cabinet about every 7-10 showers. or get this device to simply replace the existing drain cover available through my gosmalllivelarge.com/shop amazon store, www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08KRXRGGV/ref=as_li_qf_asin_il_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=gsll2020-20&creative=9325&linkCode=as2&creativeASIN=B08KRXRGGV&linkId=14a1cab1f17d6de0cd470e8c5d0c11b4
I watched your video on improving the bathroom in the 59G, Will install your recommendations! Thanks! Now i need to remove and clean secondary filter, did not know about that. Is there a video on that also?
@@keithpellemeier7828 can’t remember if made a video on that LOL… super easy… recove all contents of your under sink cabinet. Remove the cabinet floor. You will see the clear housing that contains the filter. Put towel under to catch water; make sure pump is off. Thumb twist to loosen. Remove and rinse filter. Reverse the process. The Travato manual does a good job showing that process. My shower floor drain cover should arrrive this week I will do a video on both filters. Thanks for the prompt.
I think as you describe the size you will be ok, assuming neither of you move much during the night and don’t mind being cozy. To my eye, the trade-off of having more restricted sleep make up for havin the “four room” living space.
Rand McNally road atlas. If you haven’t seen it i did a video about you questions.. MAP vs APP Best for Route Planning❓ WHAT’S UP WEDNESDAY!? ruclips.net/video/uy4diICryTE/видео.html
Thank you. GREAT INFORMATION
Thx John
Any van that can accommodate half a gallon of 1/2 & 1/2 is going to be near the top of my list. Thanks for the great tour and video. Glad I found your channel!
Seriously true on the fridge, right Jen? I continue to be amazed by its capacity
Really nice comment David. Seriously appreciate that my friend
Congratulations on one year in your Travato! Thank you for your honest assessment. I enjoy your videos and am looking forward to year two. Happy New Year.
Thanks Tim! Good to hear from you again :)
Winnebago owes you big time for this information good job
thx for that.
Bonus for Team GSLL!! love it. Thanks David. did you see the 2 year Good and Bad video I did? see it here ruclips.net/video/eOrLvHhPCaQ/видео.html
Thanks for being an early innovator (guinea pig) on this rig!
Ty JG :)
Pleasrure Way makes a fine RV
I appreciate that!
Thank you for sharing your experiences...good or bad. Hopefully Winnebago is watching/listening and taking notes, making corrections and improvements on already outstanding product.
Appreciate you watching and commenting !
Really appreciate this review. It's one rig on our top choice list. The 2020.5 has a few nice things you mentioned like the sumo springs.
Scott, you have managed to get everything you need into your RV. Thanks for the details.
Thanks Jerry!!!
Thx MJ :)
Wow Reggie! Really really happy for you. Glad I had a little part in helping you grab your RV freedom. When do you take delivery?
Took delivery just before Thanksgiving. Loving it so far.
We're still trying to figure out internet ourselves so we're really looking forward to your video!
Thx for watching and commenting. Bed is 4’x6’ so it would be cozy. Front lounge breaks into a bed two if needed.
Awesome video Scott! Congratulations on one year!
Enjoy watching your RUclips channel Scott; from travels to your honest reviews. Especially enjoyed your European RV trip/reviews.
Thank you Darrell. Much appreciate you watching and commenting.
Journey on!
Hope to see you at the Tampa SuperShow!
Thx Cheryl. And a Happy and Prosperous New Year to you! Journey-ON
The only fixable problem i had at 60,000 miles was the toilet connection clamp to tube was loose, tightened and added sealant all OK:) My model still had the long three way propane fridge which as we and i know does not work at all, Winnebago FINALLY agreed also and NOW uses compressor fridges now. These are excellent used.
I think your video was a great one. I put in the papers for a 59KL from the same dealer. Hoping for the best.
Just going off the odometer and the calendar. Doing lots of driving around the country. Thanks for watching and commenting
When Elon Musk comes out with their new internet service it's really going to improve the RV industry.
Thx Julia for watching & commenting :)
excellent video to watch before buying. thank you so much for giving me the reality hings to think about as i fantasize about the starry eyed dreams, so practical and I appreciate.
Ms White, thx for being here. How can I/we get your Fantasy Plan in action ?
George, thanks for sharing your experience with your Promaster. Appreciate you watching and commenting too :)
Your videos are so helpful and informative, Thank you!
Happy to help 😃
I'm sorta in line with your thinking
If the tank heater pads still work , simply tape them up using some 3m tape or similar. I installed my solar panel on the fiberglass roof of my old Coachman Saratoga using just Eterna Bond . Still holding after 4 years and 40,000 miles.
Getting them serviced next week but great idea
Not a seat height adjustment that I’m aware of. There is lumbar support though!!
My Travato works well for me at 5'6", and my son, who is 6'1", says it's comfortable for him, too.
Great honest and thorough review. Thank you.
You are welcome Greg
Great idea on pop up outlet Will check that out. Thx for watching and taking time to comment Richard Best on your effort with the Mrs!
Buffalo is on my visit list this summer! Will check for those recalls
Hey Scott, been awhile since checked in. I applaud you for your attempt a true reflection of your status. Would love to hear from you.
CP! Glad you checked in. Thanks for watching and commenting happy 2020
We lived in our K for a year with our cat Maximus. We sold ours 6 months ago. I loved it, my husband not so much. Once our warranty ended, everything started falling apart.
yikes
Here for you BB... together we Learn, we Share, YOU decide with is best for you.
Enjoy your videos . Thanks for sharing!
a half gallon of 1/2 and 1/2. that did it. im sold.
(the funny thing is.. im serious! :D
Thx Great Bowls. Excited about your dream home!
Looking forward to your internet video because that is a big problem for me as well
Wow... thanks for sharing. Yeah, internet vid coming very soon with some "clever" work arounds maybe.
Wow this van has everything I need! Awesome video thank you🤙🏽
No problem 👍
Hi Scott! Great overview! Wow! 30k miles!
Howdy Scott from Laredo Texas hope we cross paths as I head back to Alabama. I wish they offered the all electric option when I bought my Travato. My biggest negative is the shower drain, I followed your idea of the cheese cloth and metal drain cover. Thank you.
Hi L Graves. Hope the shower drain idea works well for you. Would be great to have our Travato paths cross!
Scott
Have you found any bed component idea that can use the new 2022 seats for your legs and your torso/head can rest on a make shift bed frame where the jump seat is on your 2021 travato?
I have not seen a mod. Maybe someone knows?
Interesting video...Thank you...Have a blessed day..
Thank you too
Congratulations on your 1 year Vanniversary.
Great video 👍 keep up the good work !
Thanks Mike!
My tips would be:
#1 Do a thorough walk through with your dealer to understand to more complex system in the Travato, such a electrical. YOU work each of the main systems with their coaching.
#2 Don’t buy a bunch of stuff to load up your Travato. Buy as you go and load a few things from your residence.
#3 Stay overnight in your driveway for a few nights, single night at first, and a consecutive 48 hours the next time to get a feel for all systems, including toilet, shower and sink
#4 Test your electrical system running with solar and generator with AC and test your propane system for cooking, heat, and hot ware.
@@gosmall.livelarge Thank YOU so much! Very helpful and look forward to much more content as I begin my Travato Journey
Thank you Scott, one topic I didn’t see is the spare tire and tools to change. Where are they kept.
Does it even come with the tools or does Ram give a can of tire fix. Like some high end cars have today.
Thank you.
Have a great day. 👌
No spare tire on a Winnebago Travato 59G. Running with luck 🍀
Maybe they gave u a spray can of tire fix.
We travel with a cat, in our Casita travel trailer. Litter box location constantly changing for us.
Happy vanniversary, Scott! Excellent "Year in Review" video. How about a discussion of the pros and cons of an extended warranty?
Just getting an understanding of that product so stay tuned. Same with roadside assistance! Good to hear from you Colorme. Been a while. Was getting worried about you!
@@gosmall.livelarge Thank you, Scott. My busy season was wrapping up through mid-October and I've been working on one of my rentals since.
Great video, can you please send link for the front window shades? Thx
This is the link to the video I made 3 years ago. Hope this helps. still adore that blind system
You convinced me, I bought a GL NPF edition. If you are looking for another demo, I'd be interested in seeing how you make the bed.
Wow Robert!1 that is so exciting. Thrilled to know I had a little bit to do with you grabbing your RV freedom
Hi Scott, Can you tell me is there storage inside the bench by the sliding door and could it be removed totally? Thanks!
No storage Todd in the jump seat. Prior to 2022, the Travato 59G contains the water tank and the 59GL contains Volta gear including inverter/charger. 2022 model year elimated that jump seat
The peeling off business is ridiculous. Thanks for lots of info and notes for me to jot down.
LOL on the number of warning labels. WARNING, drive this vehicle may kill you and others LOL
@@gosmall.livelarge Excellent tips, thank you as always!
Love how you have made the interior decorating yours! Question, how many days in the past year do you think you lived in it?
Full time since Oct 2019. So probably about 280 days
Thanks for your thoughtful comment Iaronis :)
Did you ever consider getting a travel trailer? I'm going back and forth between a van or trailer, especially since I already have a newer truck.
Take care
Thx for sharing. Your Roadtrek has treated you well?
Good luck!
@@notanomad9320 hauling construction supplies, have to admit that wasn't a use-case I had thought of LOL
It shouldn’t be difficult to hook up a recirculating pump under the shower and to filter, then re-use the same water to take longer showers.
Interesting idea. Thanks for commenting BR
Go Small. Live Large! - search on RUclips: hour shower.
12months 15k miles is for the coach, as far as promaster chassis goes what's its bumper to bumper and powertrain warranty?
Hi Mike. I think the Promaster warranty was 36,000 or 3 years. With 4 years of ownership and 100,000+ miles I am on my own dime at this point
Where did you get the map? In order to ensure you can fit under bridges/tunnels what resource(s) do you use to map out your travel? Thank you
Hey TL... though I use Apple Maps 99% of the time, I carry a Rand McNally paper atlas map book tithing to help me see the bigger picture than a digital map.
I assume you know the 2020.5 has sumo spring standard. Stay tuned for my shower filter mod soon to be released.
Yes addition of sumo as standard is recent addition. I’m happy about that. Necesssry
How convenient is the TV location? Seems to be optimally viewable from the front seats.
That position works. Or from jumpseat on the sliding door. Or from bed when the dinette is converted, whether full conversion or partial.
Hi Scott just wounded is that a camera bag pack or a laptop bag looks vintage but modern . Keep up the good work
Howdy
Scott thanks. So those places you counted is that a book of campsites and if it is where can I get one for my brother as a gift.
He just purchased a 2022 Travato GL.
Thanks again.
Congrats on your brother purch of Travato GL. States counted were where I visited. I don’t have a book of places I camped. Great idea though!
Scott I need to find the video where I saw you counting the states or campsites.
So people like me would rather hold a large book in my hands and read about it then to look on a tablet or computer.
Thank. John Houli. Houlihan
I wonder if AAA club of AMERICA HAS SUCH A BOOK.
Scott, good morning from the east coast. The gas now $4.35 a gallon how are you handling the difference from $2.00.
Continuing as normal
Hi Scott. Love your channel. Hey, where do you get your oil change for your Travato when in Illinois?
Wouldn't a 5 gallon milspec water can take up less area on the floor?
Interesting idea. Got me thinking. Shekhar. I found a 6 gallon (twice as much water as my 3 jugs) in an Igloo brand water container that might fit in the same location in about the same amount of space. I will investigate and report back. Thanks for the thought
Screens on the inside of the windows, as well as on the back door would be ideal.
great points !
What u think about 2021 winnebago Solis 59P? My girlfriend and I already choose 2020 winnebago revel in our mind.
I like them both. Very different rigs with different "purposes". You will want to do your homework carefully. Ram vs Sprinter is just one obvious huge difference.
How comfortable is that bench seat?
Very comfortable as a seat and as a bed! Need a tiny pillow to use as lumbar support though
I have this same RV and the shower drain always clogs! How do I fix this?
yeah, it is a issue. 59G shower drain fix… remove the white drain cover. remove the screen filter housed inside the drain cover. replace the drain cover. get cheese cloth and cut into 6x6 inch square. place cheese cloth over the drain cover tucking edges down around drain cover to hold it Place. purchase a a peerless stainless steel drain cover to place over the entire drain. that allows filter shower water to be pumped out without clogging during your shower. replace the cheese cloth about every 3 showers depending how dirty it becomes. clean the secondary filter under the galley cabinet about every 7-10 showers.
or get this device to simply replace the existing drain cover available through my gosmalllivelarge.com/shop

Did you mention how the heating system works (battery or propane)?
Have shown in other videos how the Truma furnace works. Check with one out, ruclips.net/video/K1mkANAw3uU/видео.html
Hi Scott, is the bed wide enough for two adults, I’m 5’7, 180lbs and wifey is 4’11, 115 lbs? Thanks.
I think as you describe the size you will be ok, assuming neither of you move much during the night and don’t mind being cozy. To my eye, the trade-off of having more restricted sleep make up for havin the “four room” living space.
That European video is one of my favorites.
What is the name of your spiral book with the states on the map.
Rand McNally road atlas. If you haven’t seen it i did a video about you questions.. MAP vs APP Best for Route Planning❓ WHAT’S UP WEDNESDAY!?
