The frame rate is that way because the graphics are so good and so detailed. But when I played this stage, I NEVER died because of frame rate. This is a really fun stage, my second favorite day stage right behind Rooftop Run.
The unleashed project mod is very good and brings some improvements from the sonic generations engine, but it still isnt the real sonic unleashed, its just missing the true feel, plus the night doge sections.
I played the xbox 360 version of the game. I was referring to the parts that bring the speed to complete halt. For example, there is a section where a gate needs to opened by a special button that needs to be pound on three times before proceeding. With the controls of the game, I find it difficult to slow down and properly hit that button. Every time I got to that part, I had to abruptly stop, defeat the enemies, then hit the button. Also there was some bugs near the start of the level where I was flung into the water for no discernible reason. Not every game is perfect. I just liked how this version of the level was made compared to the 360 release.

Months-late reply, but meh. Yes, this is a DLC stage. You've probably played the original which is why you say remember it. But the 1-2 means it's a Hard Mode version of the stage which can only be accessed by obtaining the DLC.
It needs a reboot with more day levels. And have tails replaced Chip so that you can see how the hub residence respond to you after saving the world. Or the option to make your own sonic level for online players to enjoy like LBP
woah I just noticed this why is the level different cause I have this game for ps3 but most definitely at the end of this level the big ring was not at that area it was by the part after you come off the long ass railing

Unleashed was on the verge of Amazing Classic and then Werehog levels, ugh. Sonic Unleashed should have been the day levels and then put an updated version of the Action fields from the Adventure series. Please stop trying to reinvent the wheel. Forces was ok but my goodness it could have been truly epic given what they were trying to accomplish with the story. Oh well, there's always next game.
