Radio Rodent exactly! Props to the whole team over at SpaceX and Tesla too! They work so hard to make the most incredible creations and innovations of the century
Radio Rodent The way I see it. What makes Elon Musk so great comes from a plethora of abilities. From his talent selection to his management styles. From his ability to inspire to his leadership. From his can do attitude to his let’s think this through mentality. All the way to his problem solving mind. To say Elon is just the money is the same as saying I don’t actually know anything about this man. On another important note. One man made commercial aviation a reality. One man, ELON MUSK made self driving cars and practical electric vehicles a reality. One man, Albert Einstein changed physics as we know it kicking off the nuclear age in the process. To say one man cannot accomplish something because it’s too big or complex is a falsehood. One man can, it just has to be the right man to do it.

@N S well we are kind of all made of star stuff. nothing in this world isn't. just think about it for a second. Earth is star a ball of dense star dust and we're just moving piles of star dust essentially.
@N S Except Hydrogen and some other light stuff, most of the metal in your cell come from supernovae or other stellar explosions. Yes, it has been on this lovely planet for some time, but it comes from the stars.

If anyone wants to know the reason as to why the dragon capsule has the red and green coloured lights, I have took the time to write out a detailed reason which explains everything. Just a quick heads up - it is quite a long read. But I guarantee you will be fascinated by the end of it! :)
It all stems back to 19th century admiralty. So we will need to start at the beginning as to why those colours were chosen for boats...
Two different colours were needed for collision avoidance at night; by observing the colours, the course of ships relative to the observer could be predicted. Due to the lack of resources and materials available at the time, only primary colours in cast glass were easiest to manufacture.
The reason that red was chosen for the port side is because stevedoring (docking/unloading) was done on that side, and when done at night the red light protected the dockers’ night vision. It also gave rise to the term "red light district" because of the sailors social habits upon hitting port.
The starboard light had to be a contrasting colour. Blue could be achieved easily using cobalt, but blue didn’t carry very well in poor visibility conditions at sea because water vapour and spray attenuates this colour. Also, in the days of kerosene or candle lamps, most of the colour generated was in the red end of the spectrum while blue sits at the opposite end. Bearing in mind that glass filters out colour wavelengths so going for blue would leave you with little light.
Green sits in the middle of the spectrum and is the first colour we get to moving away from the red end that can be clearly distinguished from red. This increased the amount of light available to pass through the filter leaving a brighter light. Green was also easy to achieve as glass tends to be naturally green anyway. Glass is also easily coloured green using copper compounds, and it also carries well in poor visibility. So, red and green it was.
Moving forward a generation of long haul vessels - aircraft were invented. Aircraft also required navigational lights so they simply adopted the established lighting practice for ships. Afterall, why go through the effort of creating an entirely new system when there's a perfectly good one already in place?
Finally we move onto our third and present generation of long haul vessels - spaceships. Yet again these have adopted the same lighting practice for obvious reasons. The most fascinating part about all of this, is that when we become a space fairing civilisation in hundreds of years time, people will be taught about how their spacecraft lighting system has survived over three generations of vessels, and dates back to ancient 19th century earth-based admiralty. Truly a mind boggling thought indeed!
welp there goes a brain cell
*BIG BRAIN MOMENT*
Trains copied this system as well(for signaling the lines, instead of the vehicle), and it was taken from rail to be used for road traffic lights.
Fascinating read!
thanks for spending the time to share this with us.
when automation is a default I think red/green lighting will be obsolete but cool historical info!
