  • Fallow Deer of the New Forest filmed during September and October 2014 - the deer are filmed at very close range due to some careful stalking and good camouflage - if you go to the Forest - please pack back out what you take in and keep the disruption to the wildlife to a minimum - enjoy the film and thanks for watching.

    I'm an elderly New Zealander who has been a fallow enthusiast since 1957. Earlier in life I lived/worked in London and spent much time with the Richmond park fallow. Ten years later I was farming English park fallow in hard antler, in the Wairarapa. Hunted every herd of fallow in N.Z., then over the last 9 years I've photo'd the live mature bucks (English park stock) of world standard. Two fallow books and many magazine articles. I guess you could say that fallow have been my whole life. I'd just like to say that I consider this film to be of very top class. I have watched it several times.

      Wow - that's praise indeed - thankyou very much Howard - they're one of my favourites - I'm very lucky living in the Forest as I have all five species of deer right on my doorstep as well as a huge variety of other wildlife - you might like a look at Paulas page as most of our wildlife footage is on there - hers is Paulasheba100 and there's everything from hedgehog rescue, deer, beavers, otters, lions and bull sharks - thank you again for your very kind words and enjoy your photography - cheers - Dale

    Wow... some beauties captured here... you’d like it here mate, you could literally sit on our deck and watch them... they’re a bit more blasé here... and the elk... friggin massive but now the springs arrived they’ll head back up high.
    Some fairly decent racks on some of them too.

    Thanks Larry - it was a lot of hard work to get that close but well worth it - the hardest part was editing to decide what went in - we had so much good stuff we made two films and the other ones on Paulas page - paulasheba100 if you want to see along with some of our other stuff on otters, kingfishers and even beavers ! Thank you for your comment - not sure why but not many people say if they like these or not which is a bit disheartening - its always good to be appreciated so thanks again

    Great footage guys - am a keen Wildlife enthusiast but not done the rut before - do you always stay behind lofs & trees to keep out of harms way when in camo gear ...?

    • @seaflyfisher
      @seaflyfisher  Год назад +1

      Hi Simon, thanks for that, no, we very often sit between the roots of trees or just alongside the base of trees - deer only see in black and white so as long as you sit still and downwind of them they don't know that you're there, we've even had them kick the tripod legs on their way by without realising that you're there. Most of our wildlife footage is on Paulas page (Paulasheba100) and on Reds and Fallow Rutting Season 2019, I was sat on a wide flat bank against the fern line, listening to reds roaring behind me. The stag got closer and closer until he was right behind me, close enough to hear him breathing, he came down to my left and cautiously came out onto the grass ride about ten feet from me and stopped right in front of me at about ten feet away. The following day I had the same again but from the right and you can see both of them looking at me but completely unphased - they couldn't see me, but, they could hear the zoom motor as I had to zoom out to fit them in the frame even though we'd have to strain to hear it. Interesting footage and a great experience, I was born in the Forest and been doing this since I was a kid, it's a great hobby but wherever possible I like to get in and out unseen and to get my filming done undetected so as not to disturb the animals.

      @@seaflyfisher i did a talk on wildlife photography last week and more and more i talk about "ethical photography" ; stalking, luring etc and the benefits of getting in/out of their world without intruding on it. Nothing like photographing an animal just doing what it was built to do versus on teh verge of fleeing! Better for me and for them :-) thx 4 tips - appreciate you sharing.

      The white deer are great to see, the ordinary brown Fallow are beautiful but probably the most common animal in the Forest so to see either the white or black ones is something a bit special and really makes your day 🙂

    hi,can you tell me something about your technical equipment ?

    • @seaflyfisher
      @seaflyfisher  6 лет назад +1

      luigi leone - Hi Luigi - nothing special I use a Canon video camera because it has a 30 times optical zoom on it (most others are 10 times) so you get better clarity and quality - I always try to use a tripod wherever possible for steadier shots and everything is covered in camo tape - we always try to film without disturbing the animals so stalking right up close is the most important thing to get shots like this - the white buck was filmed for fifteen minutes at fifty feet away until he left and he had no idea I was there - when I filmed the huge brown buck in the same place he fell asleep right in front of me and I had to wait 20 minutes until he woke up and moved off before I could get out without disturbing him :-)

    I wish people didn’t hunt them

    • @seaflyfisher
      @seaflyfisher  4 года назад

      Sadly, they're very destructive and would destroy the Forest if they weren't controlled - they have no natural predators and are prolific breeders - I'm very anti hunting but accept that the Forestry guys cull them as humanely as possible
