Alicent's misunderstanding of Viserys' last words literally had nothing to do with Aegon being on the throne. It would've happened regardless and was being plotted since Aegon's birth.
Hmmm I remember that alicent was crucial to the plan tho, she had influence over Sir Criston and over Aemond. It was after her reassurance that Otto perked up and made things happen. Don't forget Alicent was the one who won that rat race after aegon, she had the upperhand then. She could easily have hidden him, since Aegon himself didn't want to be king.
@@GustavoCardoso95 she wasn’t crucial to Aegon becoming king she was crucial for aegon to send terms to rhaenyra. Otto was still going to put aegon as king it’s only because Alicent heard king v “last wish” that rhaenyra n her kids weren’t killed outright. If Alicent wasn’t there Otto would probably imprisoned Alicent since she probably wouldn’t go along with the usurpation.
Yes, the throne would've been usurped regardless, but Alicent played an instrumental role in how things played out. She defied Otto by finding Aegon first and persuading him to spare Rhaenyra. And only hours before, she warmed up to the idea of reconciling with Rhaenyra completely. Had she known what Viserys really meant earlier or from the beginning, there's no telling how she could've affected events.
@@thedifferent14 Exactly. People are really undermining the huge role that Alicet played in Aegon accepting the role. If she had been on Rhaenyras's side, Otto's plan would have failed.
One detail that fans forgot is that council and Otto placed Aegon Targaryen on the throne. Alicent learns that after Viserys' death, they wanted his son as king. Viserys's last words are irrelevant to them, they only matters to Alicent and Rhaenyra.
Alicent always knew Otto sought to put Aegon on the throne. In Season 1 Episode 3 after the hunt, he says specifically 'the road is uncertain but the end is clear, Aegon will be king. You must guide Viserys towards reason, he'll never find it on his own' and he reaffirms that to her in episode 7 after the gathering in the hall of the nine, after she lashed out at Rhaenyra. "What that rogue Aemond has done in winning Vhagar to our side. The boy was right. It's worth a thousand times the price he paid." So the idea she had no clue what her father was up to, is just ludicrous tbh
@@vargr2089 My read is that Alicent is more than anything lying to herself. It's just this silly excuse that she uses to excert herself from the coup. Like Aemond points out, she conspired to usurp the throne and they blames everyone else
Brackens and Blackwoods did not need a Targaryen civil war to fight one another. They would have fought over the color of the grass, and still draw swords.
But that doesn't matter because without Queen Alicent, it wouldn't have been possible. She made it possible. Alicent wouldn't have taken this path if she hadn't lost her trust in Rhaenyra: 1X4 "I swear this to you on the memory of my mother" In the end, you can't really find one person responsible for this tragedy. They all messed it up.

that's the thing about seasmoke, not having a rider around but feeling that theirs is alive means it wants its rider but cant have one because they know leanor is alive and probably is hoping he will return
Someone pointed out that Tyrion had the Hands insignia on his armor at the battle of The Blackwater. It was in a chain like Cristin’s. But Tyrion wore it better.
A Kingsguard has been Hand of the King before. Ser Ryam Redwyne was Lord Commander of the Kingsguard before Ser Harrold Westerling. He lasted only one year was replaced by Prince Baelon, Viserys and Daemon’s father.
I doubt we'll see Aemond at Harrenhal until next seasons finale, as 'The Battle Above the Gods Eye' almost certainly won't be happening as early as this season. That likely means Ser Criston won't be advancing onto Harrenhal either. It was surprising that the show brought Daemon there this early in the prelude to all out war, as we still have SO MUCH to cover before we see Daemon/Caraxes vs Aemond/Vhagar, namely the Battle at Rook's Rest and events at the Riverlands. I fear the finale of this season will still be equally as exciting and heartbreaking, as what is to come in season 3 💔 To be honest the entire Dance of the Dragons is nothing but tragedy 😢 I loved GoT (excluding the last season, and especially the finale) but the showrunners no longer having the books to guide them was of monumental detriment to it's quality and conclusion. The beautiful thing about HotD is that it's all mostly based on ONE book (Fire & Blood), as well as a novella (Princess and the Queen) and a the novelette (The Rogue Prince), all of which have long since been finished. So we all know where it's going and how it will be wrapped up. ....but that doesn't make it any less exciting or terrifying. Buckle up, folks.
It's true that there has been a Lord Commander of the Kingsguard as Hand before, we actually see him in the very first episode of HotD, Ryam Redwyne, he is dead by the time of the second episode tho which is why Criston is chosen to fill the empty Kingsguard slot.
she is one of the best characters but they keep using her to push forward some weird scenes man. It feels like scenes that were forcefully inserted in the story for shock value or for Emma and Olivia cook to have a scene together
Not really there's tons of original Targaryen name's this is just how mid evil Europe worked people reused names all the time it's not a Targaryen exclusive thing .
No, it should not be Rhaena - she is Tragryen, not Velaryon. Joffrey is legally Velaryon so seat should goes to him, unless more fit candidate is found (which Rhaena is not, as she is equally incompetent as her stepbrother).
Alicent heard what she wanted to hear the night Viserys died. She wanted the position and just heard the name aegon, and immediately thinks that Viserys wants her son to be the successor. All Visery's life he always said that Rhaenyra is his heir to the throne and defended her every time. Even the morning before he died, he didnt want to take the milk of the poppy so he could have a clear mind, walk to the throne felt and go through all that pain just to defend luke as the heir to driftmark to further affirm Rhaenyra's inheritance and then Alicent The Hypocrite thinks Viserys suddenly changes his mind that same night.
