this man can literally write bangers in every genre
He's vastly overqualified but needs to cover at least ONE Grateful Dead song 🧐
And he does this every week
not sure about the more simplistic genres, like punk, grunge or sludge metal to name a few
this man is too advanced for simplicity
Sausages?
At this point I'm not convinced he's a man, likely a government conspiracy to splice human DNA with bass. It's the only plausible explanation
I admire how your channel keeps being about music and not steering towards memes and laughs, and still is entertaining as hell.
that'a why I left Davie (who brought me here) long time ago !
@@stevensonjr no lie, but i seriously think charles is better than davie . the guy is massively flexible
@@stevensonjr unfortunately me too... davie got a bit too carried away
I don’t mind Davie himself or his videos for that matter (he’s definitely a great bassist too), but his fanbase is a bit annoying imo
Well, he did have a meme phase, mainly when collaborating with Davie504, but yeah I'm glad Charles found his own style.
I am 100% interested in an entire album of nothing but Charles doing crazy prog-metal solo bass stuff. Every time I come back and watch Charles he's outdone himself again!
I would want to see two things on the album: an actual drummer, and interlude tracks between songs that are just the music teacher character.
Yes please.
@@jamcam9 oh hell yea
An he's such a natural, down to earth person, and have a great sense of humor
listen to even brewers “Alone”
Charles is the only person who could challenge the devil to a Bass Off and win
johnny???
The Devil Went Down to Berthoud
The problem is the devil plays guitar and just thinks that means he can play bass...
I mean the devil's a fiddle player, so I can understand why he'd lose in a face off.
I saw Les Claypool do this, it was a documentary.
Combining Heavy DJENT riffs and masterful tapping notes, now That's what I call a *MASTERPIECE!*
The Omnific
@@reneebear3641 That name works... I just want Charles to make more of this, and that theme works
@@tehllama42
No look it up
@@tehllama42 it’s a band of three bassists that play basically what you described
If Meshuggah and Ayreon met...
Proggy, djenty, and actually metal as hell. This is absolutely fantastic. That little solo section towards the end is *chef's kiss*
After that initial riff, I want to see a collab between you and Tosin Abasi.
That would be fun!!
Or at least a "When Animals As Leaders Only Gives You 1 Minute to Audition" video. Would be stoked to see a collab.
He is the missing bass player of AAL
Thank you guys for introducing me to AAL!
I didn’t even know 🤷🏻♂️
@@micahgreer7748 It's a great feeling, finding something new and excellent. Like our boy Charles here, or AAL. Plini, Mestis, Arch Echo, and Wide Eyes are easy recommendations if you want to explore more instrumental metal.
That first riff is such a monster, i love that kind of stuff
You write amazing metal. I bet alot of us fans are metalheads at heart so please do more!
this man can play in the style of ichika, polyphia and animals as leaders effortlessly, while always being himself at the same time
Sounds as prog and chunky as Animals as Leaders.
Perfect combo, great work here👌
That could 100% be an animals as leaders riff
That was my comment almost exactly!
💯
Great minds think alike. He could slap his way into that lineup
Great minds think alike. He could slap his way into that lineup
There’s not enough bass driven metal bands, we need more
Classical music at it's finest
That single string riff in the middle had a very epic Dream Theater vibe. Well done! 🤘🏻
the genre that can stop this man's inspiration is yet to be created
midwest emo can kill anyones musical will
@@clouds7705yeah, I'm a general lover of emo and midwest emo just has no fun to it
What the actual hell is "midwest emo" ?
@@Pure_KodiakWILD_Power awful music is what it is
@@Pure_KodiakWILD_Power literal trash
Bro...I don't even know what to say. The things you write and play are just unparalleled levels of cool and astonishing. Keep it up, Charles. We need this more than you know.
I love this channel. The pure variety found in the music makes it so that I can't get bored of the content. Awesome one, once more!
Your profile picture tells me you have a fine taste in music.
I'm also here to voice my appreciation for Haken
the playing is outstanding, the note choices are stellar.
This guy reminding me of First Fragments bassist. Being that good, and doing what you do across all these genres and styles is mindblowing every time.
Love the old classical character playing this one. 🤣
It felt like it needed his crazy vibes 🤣
that low tuned metal slapping to melodic tapping transition was awesome
that needs to be a full song. shit slaps hard
I'm so happy you are fleshing the tracks out with full instrumentation these days. Epic track that any band would be lucky to have written.
It isn’t just that you make doing this stuff look easy - you do, of course, somehow - it’s that you look like you’re having more fun doing it than should be legal anywhere on this planet. While you perform.
Bringing the flawless technique is one thing. Inspired composition is yet another. But presenting it with a sly twinkle in your eye makes it special.
For me, anyway.
This is absolutely insane I wasn't expecting the madness right from the get go 😂. I love it when you play metal!
Gave me kind of Animals as Leaders kinda vibe. Great piece of work by the way! Nice transitions)
This is probably on the top 3 djentiest riffs I've heard in my life. You'd usually expect a guitarist to write djent riffs, but Charles is once again proving bassists aren't the slacks guitarists think they are. Charles never ceases to amaze me.
Imagine how awesome Symphony X:s Sea of Lies would sound with bass like this. Especially the guitar solo... mind blowing stuff
I think I've figured out why your music sounds so much more complicated than everything else... It's not only your flawless play style in these tracks you make, but it's the Japanese style chrord progressions that you incorporate into everything you write. Anime-esque. Good stuff.
Good lord.. That was absolutely incredible. Some of my favorite work of yours. Great piece, let alone a random video!
Love it man
I’m a jazz musician but a metal head at Heart so this spoke to me. 🤘🏽
Wow!! Incredible, how does Charles manage to create an original banger every time. Like how is he so good in many rhythmic and stylistic varieties. His harmonics are insane, his talent is that of a virtuoso. If I were to choose top 100 best bassist of all time I’d choose Charles to be up in that list. Good day to you sir!
Wow this is seriously amazing I'm so glad you are getting the subscribers, and recognition you deserve. Best bass player in the world in my opinion. Keep up the good work!!!
Incredible! Absolutely off the hook!! Thanks for another great video Charles. I think you're one of the biggest reasons I even watch RUclips. I hope to see you here on the West Coast in the US next time you come
bro i know clearly this is hard to play but now writing something like this is something completely beyond comprehension. Thank you for giving me such mind-blowing experiences Charles! It really inspires me to keep learning more about the bass.
omg we need many albums of this
Dude I just can’t get over how good you are…god if I could turn back time and give some of this a try but years of construction has basically destroyed my hands.. I can play but it’s all pretty basic stuff.. but watching you is a huge uplift.. thank you for all the hard work.. hope all is well…
Drop G# is such a good tuning. The contortionist and hath are probably my favorite bands that write some songs in that tuning
G# is an amazing tuning, but once you go lower than G, there's no going back...
I feel lucky to see your channel, so fantastic in how you play bass.
What a DJENT banger ! Keep goin' whith those
I'm speechless, I've always looked for this. This is the potential of bass. Bass rocks, and it's especially evident in songs like Breed, Sabotage, and Bulls on Parade, Dragula...
You really inspire me to work on my guitar playing! You're like the embodiment of technique not being in the way of feeling! What a bass hero!
I demand a whole album of this. PLEASE
Splendid.
Incredible composition and playing!
I’m not a metal fan at all but I’ll listen to anything Charles puts out
I’m curious to see what the behind-the-scenes look like. Watching you write, play, and record these amazing pieces would be really cool 🤘
@Charles_berthoud3249 👈🤡
More juxtaposed metal music with classical aesthetic please.
Also, what an absolute banger!
Used to hate metal but it’s slowly become my favourite genre over the heard
you seriously gotta create an album containing every genre you can think of, it would be legendary!
Would really like to hear more stuff like this, some seriously excellent playing
Everyone’s like he can make a banger in any genre. I see it as a complete understanding of music theory.
That tapping section always makes me goosebooms
Your bass is beyond beautiful. And so is your playing 🎉
Thanks!
im here for that magnificent hair e
I love your playing because it is exactly what I is going on in my bass head.
cant believe bethoven plays djent
He definitely would if he were still around 🤣
The solo bass intro is lowkey awesome (IMO the best part)
I wish I had only 10% of your talent 😅 Nice job !!!!
put in 10% of the work then
Fabulous! You are the best youtuber! Thanks for all the incredible musical entertainment.
멋진 연주, 최고입니다~^^
Finally an answer to the question: but can he djent?
The first few seconds sound like an Animals as Leaders riff, then Mozart comes in, then Knights of Cynodia, back to Animals as Leaders, plus a bit of Polyphia... À track to make Shazam become mad!
So much amazingness in oly two minutes
This just got better and better and better and better and better!
Sounded like it came off a liquid tension experiment album. But you are the entire band. Well done
sure as shit has those dream theater vibes to it, but far more djent/metalcore ish on the dirt lol
Just incredible Charles 🤘🏼😈🤘🏼
Glad you're doing costumes and jokes again. Always thought you were hilarious.
Oh my goodness! Those strings were so loose! But the tone? *mwuah* chefs kiss.
Need a studio tour plz!!! What’s the gear my man…great stuff as always! Your the best I’ve ever heard…what a banger!!!
I need an album of this Charles! Please.
The wig and intro with the tea into immediate head banging got a big laugh out of me. Amazing as usual!
Wow man, I want a whole album of this. That Schecter is sounding amazing.
The little finger sticking out on a coffee mug was just the very start of great things that followed ;-)
Who can you possibly look up to as a bassist because you sir, are god tier. I’ve never seen anything like it on a bass.
You never cease to amaze dude. I formally request a full album of this right here PLEEEEEASE! Well done!
Solo reminded me Ryan Martinie's mixed technique of tap-slapping
Schecter Stiletto Studios are fantastic basses. This bass has been my go-to for years.
Man, you're a monster playing, simply awesome!!!
That riff is actually sick af
It sounds like a boss battle theme, especially at 1:20
We did not deserve that beautiful melodic tapping part that somehow fit the HEAVY theme! I guess I'll keep waiting for you to finally outdo yourself. Might take a looooong time
Wow. Of all your videos, I think I enjoyed this one the most.
Absolutely love this
That video got me into a Protest The Hero vibe! Loved it!
Perfect tune to start my day!
immediately started laughing gracias
Sikth were the first modern recognizable band to use this low tuning (on some songs) and the low G# tuning in E flat (D#) standard can be referred to as the Sikth tuning. The birth of the modern (more prog based) djent sound (Not referring to the first wave with Meshuggah.) Kind of sounds like them.
Bloody Ell that was fast! Sir Chucky did it again. Nice! 🤘👍
lol you out-Myung'd John Myung with that one. J/K Myung's writing is pure him, but I do love that you kind of hang in the melodic zone he does with that.
lol, nice, that's a good mashup of Meshuggah + Dream Theater + the iconic Charles tapping in there. That's totally something like that you need to play on the next Shred colab man!!! That was Heavy AF but still melodic and totally surprising tempo-wise as it should be.
Spiffing indeed.
Damn! He's the whole Liquid Tension band by himself!
The filthy riff that brings the song in reminds me of Blotted Science, it slays harrddd
Just couldn't resist the urge to do all "do-dilly-do" in the middle there could ya?
Ludwig has never been before so close to pure nature of "classic" music. GJ!
Excellent jam Charles
Holy crap. I need an album of this.
The whole piece is fire. But 0:32 is one of the best damn thing I’ve heard in my life, especially in between those sick low heavy tones
With these chops, writing skills, and on-stage experience, I wonder, I honestly wonder, why haven’t you got hired by big acts? You are mindblowing
He doesn't need them.
Yes more of this please
00:23 Confirmed medieval metal stare down. 🤟
THAT'S an awesome piece of music my friend.
