Great video, I remember renting this, not knowing anything and being blown away. The gritty reality and the rough world it shows you visually sucks you in. It's one of the better and underappreciated cop films.
I enjoyed Rush with Jason and Jennifer Jason Leigh as well.
I didn’t realize he had made The Grey, and Boss Level too, some of my favorite movies are coincidentally his. I’ll never forget seeing Narc on Netflix and thinking “oh Ray Liotta is in a movie I haven’t seen” and mindlessly hitting play and talking to my girlfriend, then the opening sequence took me and I watched it twice, I was so engrossed in this movie and blown away that I hadn’t heard more about it.
@@danielwhite1233 I’ve still gotta check out Boss Level, I’ve heard it’s a lot of fun. Carnahan seems to get great work out of Frank Grillo, another underrated actor like Patric
@@WildFlicksis the 4k release worthy? Also what did u love about this movie the most?

Saw this in the theater. Was completely blown away and to this day I have no idea why nobody has seen it. I'd say it's still in my top 10 favorite movies of all time. It really put Joe Carnahan on the map for me, it's too bad he never surpassed this, and in fact the rest of his filmography is mostly terrible. I still watch NARC every few years.
Nice analysis - For me, Narc is one of the more overlooked films from this century so far.
Released at a time when it was still sorta 'cool' to make gritty Indies, it is still shocking to hear of the troubles it had merely making it to the theaters (not that that's an easy endeavor).
The (as you put it) "Ace performances" are a standout - Liotta's best performance for me, and Patric channeling his old man's (Jason Miller) reserved acting style in the middle of his character's mania is a sight for sure.
Thank you for giving some love to this forgotten gem - Hopefully we can all see it in the theater again one day
Another underrated move with Jason Patric was Rush (and Jenffier Jason Leigh maybe?) terrific movie.
This is an incredibly underrated movie!! Havent seen this in years and now this reaction vid makes me want to see it again.
Patric's leading man performances from this era in 'Narc,' 'Rush' (oscar-worthy), 'Geronimo,' 'Lost Boys,' and 'The Beast' really place him firmly as a strong contender for most underrated actor of his generation along with Barry Pepper in 'Knockaround Guys,' 'The Snow Walker,' 'Like Dandelion Dust' (oscar-worthy) and 'Three Burials.' Both of them also proved to equally be great detail-oriented supporting character actors outside of their leading man performances, they could really do it all.
Don't forget "Rush."
@@Ymirson999 His oscar-worthy performance, who could forget that!
Remember getting this at Blockbuster. Yes Blockbuster. Never even heard of it. Saw Liotta and Patrick were in it and gave it a shot. Hidden gem.
I remember serving it at Blockbuster! It was a fairly popular rental, from what I remember.
I never understood why Jason Patrick never broke. He's an outstanding acter. "Rush" is one of the best performances by any acter ever.
Likewise criminally underrated as an actor
I think he’s known as being somewhat difficult to work with.
@@nicks8026 yeah I heard that too that he's a bit of a premadonna.
@@nicks8026 If he was on that set Ray Liotta would have addressed it very quickly.
Love Rush.
Glad people are still talking about this film. A solid crime drama more people should see
Always loved this movie, and was always baffled by it not being a hit!
Had the pleasure to see this in theaters in Austin, TX completely randomly when it first came out.
this movie is one of the most rock solid and pointed feel bad movies i've ever seen. the vibes are *rancid* and that fucking rules
Great vid man, I have always loved the gritty neo noir crime dramas. This was a reminder to re-watch Narc, keep up the great work man!
You are my favourite essayist on this platform for genre film, keep up the good work.
The opening is fucking insane an absolute 11/10.
Great video. I only saw this movie because of William Friedkin’s emphatic praise for the director
just saw this one yesterday, good shit, and way too underrated
I remember watching the beginning chase scene with my dad as a kid and thinking wtf 😮
I remember the scene when liotta walks into a crime scene where a guy self deleted, sees the body in the bathtub and laughs. Thought that was a great touch, says so much about the character and his daily world
Yeah the idiot used a pump shotgun as a weed pipe and forgot there was a shell in the breach.
@@Ironbird-q4f lmao
I haven’t seen this in so long
Fuck yeah subbed up
So in a way, we can kind of attribute Paramount agreeing to come onboard with theatrical distribution to Penelope Cruz! Lol Great mini-exploration of an underrated gem so appreciate the upload. This and also The Grey and Copshop are 3 straight up Carnahan masterpieces in my opinion.
I’ve also always really enjoyed Smokin’ Aces, despite some flaws. Was surprised to find out it’s become one of Terrence Malick’s favourite films!
@@WildFlicks Smokin' Aces I need to rewatch as it's been a while but I definitely remember enjoying it, didn't know it had Malick's endorsement so that's awesome!
Great video zacharias
Thank you Benjamin
I've loved this film since it came out but every time I get someone to watch it with me they don't like it. I don't know if that means it's just not a good film or I just have friends with no taste, but I stand by it; it's a great piece of film making. And Busta Rhymes is in it - if you would expect a platinum selling music artist to turn up in a movie when he's incredibly famous then this isn't the movie you'd expect them to be in.
Amazing movie. Absolutely superb.
Very underrated movie
Gotta say I was disappointed in this film. I loved Ray Lotta in everything, but the story just wasn't good enough for the quality of the actors. Imo
Great video! I make videos giving dope film recommendations and I now I want to watch this! Subscribed!
