This is very cool, Luca. I've just tried creating a podcast in Norwegian, but what it does, it creates a podcast in Norwegian with heavy swedish accent , pronunciation and cadence lol
This is fascinating! And scary to me as a voice actor a little because the AI voices are getting more natural sounding. As a learning tool, this is really cool!
I tried it with Russian and the first audio was complete gibberish, on the second try I got audio in English, but like you said Luca, it is at its early stage and will likely be very useful also for Russian in the future.
Mille grazie, Luca. Molto utile! I was actually quite surprised that the entire functionality was available in German except for the podcast. This trick for the prompting is really nice. Cheers! This is all simply insane. When I discovered the podcast function from NotebookLM three weeks ago I couldn't believe it.
And I had thought Microsoft Edge reading articles, books and pages in various languages with AI voices is a game changer, but this seems even better! Thanks for this! Looking forward to more languages included inside NotebookLM!
Thanks for sharing the strict Luca I really wanted to use notebook LM for language learning but didn't know where to start. This is a great resource and thank you so much for this. Hope you can Bring more of these picks and trips using AI and share it with us.
I wanted to try generating Japanese podcast with it using the same input as you did (just replacing Italian to Japanese). First I used a Hungarian news video from youtube, then a Japanese wikipedia page, but both times it generated the podcast in a (at least for me) gibberish language. I mean it was apsolutely not Japanese, it sounded maybe a little like Chinese, but I'm not sure if it was any real language.
@@LucaLampariello I quickly tried it with Croatian last night, and it sounded like a mix of Croatian and Japanese (it was weird), a few hours ago (over 12 hours later) I tried it again, and the Japanese sound in it had disappeared, so I'm taking that as a sign that the AI is slowly learning how to pronounce the Croatian language (fingers crossed).
Cool tool and very usefull. Bud is it already good with recognising and inplmenenting pitch accent in example Japanese? Or doesnt it support that kind of details already? like to hear.
I frequently use AI to learn my first new language, and I'm grateful to be starting now rather than five years later. As AI advances, learning a language may become less necessary, and I would miss out on the joy of this journey.

Lampariello, I'm learning english and I can understand the entire context of your videos without subtitles, but I still usually use subtitles for native content. Do you recommend that I fully immerse myself by watching native content without subtitles or still use subtitles?
I watch native content the first time with subtitles in my native language (english), a second time with subtitles in the language I'm learning (pausing to take notes of words or phrases that I think I'd use), and a third time without any subtitles to see how much I can understand. Depending on how that goes, I may or may not rewatch the video the following day.
In my humble opinion, subtitles is a fantastic tool to understand what you are watching, so use them as much as you want! To this day, I still always watch movies, RUclips videos or documentaries with subtitles (no matter the language).
That's pretty cool for people who can't read for the life of them and only absorb information from audio materials. If you want to simply dumb down a text to match your level, I'm pretty sure other text-based ML tools already do that. Not super sure what to use this tool for, tbh
Agreed! I believe that reading is still the best way to absorb information, but why not reading AND listening to podcasts? One thing does not exclude the other
@ I guess you’re right, but I still think it mostly benefits those who are auditory learners. Unfortunately for me (and people like me), I advance in leaps and bounds when I read, even way above my level, but I can totally spin my wheels for months when I mostly listen and watch (and expect to get something out of it, that is). To me, the best use of audio and video materials is training one's listening comprehension and, indirectly, speaking. But I do know people who acquire information better from TV shows than from books
The tech is really impressive and cool, but to be honest, I still don't find the idea of listening to artificial people appealing, even if it's great for learning my target language. Maybe there's some kind of mental hurdle I need to overcome, or it might just never click the same way. Great content though, Luca!
Well, I tried to make a Korean podcast and it came out in English. (edit) I tried making a podcast in Spanish and it came out in English. Are you sure this isn't just English only?
@@LucaLampariello I appreciate the follow up. I tried copying your prompt: Create a podcast at my level (A2) in Korean and Create a podcast at my level (A2) in Spanish. I then tried using Papago to translate your prompt into Korean and entered that. The result was an English podcast. The voice quality is amazing. You get two people geeking out over my stupid video game I like as if it's the most interesting thing in the world. They misunderstand a few points in the article I copied into it but I'm in shock at how amazing they sound. But only in English.
@@LucaLampariello I don't know if this maters but I tried using Korean source material instead of English and managed to get gibberish as a result. At least it wasn't English. It sounded like two aliens talking to each other lol.
I used it on the very first day and worked just fine but the days after it wouldn't make podcasts in other languages except in English, is anyone having the same issue? Any recommendation? (I obviously tried to personnalise it by writing to speak only in French for example)
And thats how language learning is now almost redundant... The only thing to learn languages will be the brain benefits... Anyone will communicate with anyone. And i made this translation with AI...
Would you trust a doctor using machines/software to communicate with you or if he's speaking your language? Would you trust your romantic partner speaking to you with a translator tool or would prefer to use the same language?
@@SubatomicParticleX I highly doubt it, communication goes beyond words, the inflections of the language, the pairing of facial expressions, body language with verbal language etc, make it a unique experience, for transactional purposes (buying and selling), software and systems might help a lot
@@LucaLampariello it is great for sure but it wont be relevant. When the meta/google glasses and their AI chips will be perfected, you ll see translation subtitles live or bubbles 💭 above their head like in games. You could speak with anyone!

I just uploadad a short PDF about the Latin subjunctive (in German). And they made it sound like the most interesting topic in the world! 😀
Amazing ain't it? 🤭
I just tried it in Russian and it came out with some hilarious sounding gibberish. Sounded like an alien language invented for a sci-fi film.
Amazing! Thanks for sharing Luca.
Is it posible to get the transcripts of the conversation?
I use a tool called Macwhisper to create these transcripts but you also have some FREE tools like Descript.
What a sick tool! thank you so much for keep inspiring me to achive my linguistic goals that way
