    I have heard that you do not want to change the transmission fluid if you haven't changed it in 100,000 miles. This is due to microscopic metal shavings from the transmission being in the fluid. Granted, the typical way most auto mechanics change the transmission fluid is to suck the fluid out of the dipstick hole, which then sucks all of those metal shavings into the transmission. When the engine is started with the new fluid, the shavings shred the transmission.
    This does look like a safer way to deter that from happening, since you are draining the fluid from the bottom of the pan as opposed to sucking it out the top from the dipstick hole.

      With full synthetic 60k to 80k is doable but with standard fluid 40k is more recommendable considering these transmissions do not have a serviceable filter. l've switched over to synthetic on all of the fluids.

    Hey mate, thanks for this awsome video. i had one question. i own a 07 model Liana (asian market) auto m16 engine non vvti 1.6. it has done 165k kilometers. the fluid is pretty black. the mechanics here suggest changing the whole gear box instead of changing fluid, according to them they say the transmission won't work the clutch won't bite etc because it has done 165k kilometers and the fluid is bad now. did you encounter any thing like that mate? any gear slip issues or something? what do you recommend me? the gear has no noise. its running smooth.

    I'm still new to this & this could be a stupid question.. Does this method get all of the oil out of the gears? In other words, was that a complete system flush?
    I have a 2012 w/ a CVT & I know I need different fluid. I've done a lot of work from your videos & I'm just about to go the transmission. To the best of your knowledge will this work for my vehicle or will I need a different method, I've had people tell me I'll need some sort of pump. It's difficult getting info in the US on these vehicles since there's no local dealership. Any info would help. Godbless.

      For the CVT unit it is just "drain & fill". The CVT unit in the SX4 and the Kizashi are having some problems after 100,000 miles but most likely the damage is being done well before they reach 100,000 miles so for CVT preferably change the CVT fluid every 30k to 40k miles. Check out LubeGard CVT fluid.

    i just take it out via the dip stick with my manual pump. Take about 4 quarts and that's what i put back in. Did not know i had to do the return line tho.

    • @JA-rn5qv
      @JA-rn5qv 3 года назад

      You don't have to do the return line. You can get the same results by using your method and just change it out 3 times in a row (drive it a bit in between each new batch) and then by the time you are done with your 3rd batch, your tranny will have 90% new fluid. l suggest you go with synthetic fluid (such as Valvoline MaxLife) or if you do decide to use standard fluid instead of synthetic then throw in a bottle of LubeGard Automatic Transmission Fluid Protectant. That's assuming you have the 4-spd Automatic. Different stuff is used for the CVT version

    Some UK Automatic Transmission Specialists quote around GBP 200 to do this. They seem to want to remove & strip the auto box at the same time. Suzuki UK confirm fluid change should be at 99 000 miles. Where can l get one of those narrow necked funnels please? What are the symptoms of transmission fluid change needed? Excellent demo! What do you mean saying at the end "after 20 litres of oil"? Transmission is supposed to have capacity of 7.5L according to manual.
    Also, you removed less than 5 litres in first stage (drain plug) and another 2L with engine running...
    What is the 20L you mentioned?? Confused....

    • @JA-rn5qv

      There is a metal filter screen, but it's not easily accessible and would have to remove transmission to get to it. That is why it is better to change transmission fluid regularly rather than wait for it to start getting burned.

      I just did this in my 2003 aerio sx. It's a different transmission. I have the automatic 4 speed with overdrive. The drain plug is actually a plug held in by a retaining ring clip. Also the hose to connect was on the driver's side of the radiator. I only used two gallons, and My gas mileage went from 30mpg to 40mpg average.
      The transmission filter is in between the engine and the transmission. You will have to remove the transmission to replace the filter.
      I did not replace the filter.

      No the SX4 has an internal metal screen (not a changeable filter) which is not serviceable. The only way to get to the metal screen is to completely remove the transmission so that's why it's important to keep the trans fluid clean and change often.

      @@john9516 yeah I know, my aerio has it inside the transmission so to get it out, I have to literally take the tranny out just to replace it. Horrible design, I rather have it be a PITA like the Honda Odyssey AT filter, atleast I can actually replace it, oh well.

    Hi! My daughter got a little problem today. When on "D"rive, the SX4 2007 automatic transmission start to move back. She tried three time, and nothing change. She then stop the engine and removed the key, called me, restarted the engine and tried again. Everything went back to normal. Anybody with a 2007 SX4 got the same problem?
    Oil level is perfect. No "Check Engine".

    • @JA-rn5qv
      @JA-rn5qv 3 года назад

      That would not be affected by engine oil level and would not trip a check engine code, it sounds transmission related. To be safe, definitely get a complete transmission fluid replacement done at a reputable transmission shop and have them refill with synthetic fluid. Problem could be the shift linkage that has come loose. Have the transmission shop check that while they are doing the fluid exchange. Faulty speed sensor can also cause similar issue, computer glitch, or some times the transmission solenoid.

    • @Paint0nBrush
      @Paint0nBrush 5 лет назад

      Okay so I just did this in my 2003 aerio sx. It's a different transmission. I have the automatic 4 speed with overdrive. The drain plug is actually a plug held in by a retaining ring clip. Also the hose to connect was on the driver's side of the radiator.
      Other than that it is the same procedure.
      I only used two gallons. It was still mostly opaque dark red, however my gas mileage went from 30mpg to 40mpg average. There was no vibrations anymore as well.

    • @Paint0nBrush
      @Paint0nBrush 5 лет назад +1

      The filter is sandwiched between the transmission and engine. In order to access the filter, you must "drop" the transmission.

    • @JA-rn5qv
      @JA-rn5qv 3 года назад

      @@Paint0nBrush Same as with the SX4 which is why it's a very good idea to stay ahead on trans fluid changes. People who wait for the fluid to get burnt and sludgy with the non-serviceable trans filter are just asking for trouble. Change fluid out every 40K miles, use synthetic fluid and your Aerio/SX4 will love you and MPG's will stay good too. l had a 2006 Aerio premium with a manual (before l traded in for an SX4) and my roommate had a 2004 Aerio with the 4-spd Auto/Overdrive. Overdrive was nice for road trips! l wish Suzuki would have kept that trans for the SX4 as well.

    • @JA-rn5qv
      @JA-rn5qv 3 года назад +1

      You only change timing chain if there is an issue. Timing chain is lifetime of the engine. Most important thing for timing chain is change your oil frequently and better if you use synthetic. Time chain durability is completely dependent on your oil

    • @volvosweden
      @volvosweden  5 лет назад +1

      If you di it properly in Transmission shop then you can use less fluid to completely change the oil.
      In my case it's different. I dont use special machine to effectively flush the fluid. That's why it takes so much oil.

    • @JA-rn5qv
      @JA-rn5qv 3 года назад

      Hay un filtro tipo metal (permanente) incorporado dentro de la transmision, entonces no se le cambia. La unica manera de acesarlo es de remover la transmision y desarmar al casco. Por eso es preferible adelantarse con el cambio de aceite de transmision, entre cada 30 mil o maximo de 60 mil millas y usar aceite sintetico.
