Brilliant times as a rail enthusiast bringing back some memories of the good old days.

Videos like these are the nearest thing we have to time travel to the past. Great great memories, much missed. 👍

Superb quality for 1980s, especially the sound. The days of coal and freedom to travel without being watched and monitored by CCTV cameras everywhere. They weren't happy times for many, including myself, but "real" work still paid in those days - if you were willing and able of course...

The appearance of 37407, with the Eastfield Scottie dog needs explaining. On 23rd January 1989, class 156 sprinters took over from class 37/4s on the Scotrail west highland line passenger services. On 24th January, 37407/8/22 were transferred from Eastfield to Cardiff Canton. Indeed 37408/22 reached Crewe on 25th January. These three 37/4s were required by Provincial to haul loco hauled rakes on the Cardiff - Liverpool/Manchester corridor, whilst the class 155s were out of service, for door faults. The 156 we see early in the video at Cardiff Central was also a temporary 155 substitute.

Many thanks, I knew that 37407 had been recently transferred to Canton but I didn't know the precise details of the move

Yet more excellent work there sir, a couple of rarities too, 37357 and 37059 with the plates on they didnt last that long, and is anyone turned into looking at those loco hauled rakes thinking how comfortable they would be to have a nice long journey on instead of the bubbish we all have to endure now?

It's always seemed to be windy at Cardiff C whenever I've been there 🤔

That is true, its a pity that the brewery has shut now, the smell of the hops was always familiar to Cardiff

12:15was pretty neat; Class 37-hauled ballast train passes doubleheaded Class 37s on iron ore empties, then just as that one goes out of sight another one appears on a coal train!
