4:19 THE FOURTH BULLET POINT. THIS. I’M ALL ABOUT AKITO AND I HATE WHEN PEOPLE ACT LIKE HE DOES THE COMPLETE OPPOSITE OF THAT. THE MISCHARACTERIZATION OF AKITO MAKES MY BLOOD BOIL.
As a Mizuki fan I will try to explain why I like them, warning for me being a huge ranter: First of they're sort of impossible to hate? They're in the middle ground between being too prickly and being too overbearing, I know some people think characters like Minori or the WxS cast are annoying and ones like Mafuyu, Ena, Akito are mean (I disagree heavily on all these btw). But Mizuki just falls into that area of being both cheery and teasing but also falls into these more 'sedated' attitudes every so often and has more social skills and restraint than some of the other hyper characters. They're just hard to dislike even if you don't LOVE them. For me it's the sheer nuance of their character- I mean don't get me wrong lots of PJSK characters have good nuance, but Mizuki their struggles in the main story sort of remain a mystery, befitting of how their things is keeping secrets. That paradox of wanting to stay with your friends yet wanting to keep them at an arms length, and the faking your smile and struggling with those moments were you break after things seemed to be going well. And how their story pans out is so different compared to others? Most event stories have the set up and then the problem and then the resolution, but Mizuki's is a train of "WE'RE SOLVING NOTHING!!!" and yet it feels like you ARE getting somewhere. Another thing to note is they, again, do that thing where they fall into the middle ground. Characters like Mafuyu pull in certain people (like me) who LIVE for that internal conflict and layered character and HUGE struggles, but she doesn't hit right for people who prefer characters more along the lines of someone they'd want to befriend. And ones like Ichika are super sweet and can definitely be up there for people drawn to the likeable ones you'd like to meet real life, but maybe not as much for people searching for more conflict and dark topics. Mizuki, however, is both very likeable and cute- I mean look at their cards they're so silly- but also delves into those darker topics. The cards really showcase this I think- on one hand you have the ones where they're being silly and the cheerful one getting the group together, dragging people along and going shopping and teasing Akito. And then you have the cards where they have a breakdown in front of a mirror while being Mafuyu-ified and smile sadly on a train. A very balanced character that's easy to like and hard to hate. I have a personal reason why I LOVE Mizuki but that's a whole different rant on it's own so... I'll save that for if you haven't gotten tired of my ridiculous paragraphs.

What they do is have even Nightcord, the people Mizuki's very close friends with, also not be in on the secret. Because they don't want others to know. AND HELL THAT'S RELATABLE- So many times I just haaveee a sneaking suspicion perhaps a few of my friends wouldn't mind. But I'm too scared to try, because if it goes wrong then what happens then? AND EVEN IF IT DOESN'T GO WRONG, which is actually confronted in the Lower One's Eyes event, what would happen? To quote ID Smile "Hey could we stay this way, just like this?" Maybe it'd go right. Maybe they wouldn't care. But who am I to know that, and who am I to even know if them still accepting me wouldn't change things? Mizuki finally has something after many years of being an outcast and extremely unhappy with their life, and they're too scared to throw off this careful balance they've finally got by telling a secret even if it won't be received negatively. HELLA RELATABLE AND NUANCED. Mizuki's just so nuanced and such a NEW topic I haven't seen before. Like, pretending you're fine? Seen it. Outcast from society? Oh, in every story. Scared of change? Also seen it. But all of them tied together seamlessly? All of them with more nuance like being scared of change not because 'change bad' in your eyes but you're just too afraid of leaving the 'happy ending' you finally made. LIKE AGHHH I'VE JUST NEVER SEEN SOMEONE LIKE MIZUKI AND I LOVE THEM TO DEATH. ok i'll leave you alone now lmao i ranted too much
