I love the enthusiasm you have at The Sandman entry. You drop all the formality and let your love for the series shine through.
Excellent list with many that I agree with, I must suggest one notable missing run and that is Roy Thomas’s All-Star Squadron, especially issues 1-36.
The Wolfman/Perez New Teen Titans era got me through Jr. and Senior High school!!! Sandman and Shade the Changing Man gave me my dose of weirdness!!! Some of these I'll have to check out! I also really loved Green Lantern's "Blackest Night"
I know what you mean. Even though I started reading comics in the early 99s, my first run was Stan Lee’s Spider-Man. I didn’t know it was decades old by then. Later, when I discovered Sandman, it felt like growing up. If you haven’t read it, I would like to suggest Robinson’s Starman and Ennis’s Hitman. They are precious gems and not enough people know about them.
This video gives a lot of great idea for future omnibus. Just found your channel and had to comment on how much I love it, and appreciate the hard work in the vids.

Awesome and comprehensive DC list. It’s wild that DC collected editions department have not published that many of these in either Omnibus or Absolutes editions. So many great runs that are deserving.
I loved seing the Legion being so well represented - nothing lately, unfortunately.
Chuck Dixon's Green Arrow run belongs on this list, too. As does Peter Toamasi's Green Lantern Corps.

I love this channel
the list is great, but i wouldn’t have included Sandman, it isn’t really a run, Gaiman didn’t come in to replace someone else and improved eveything, he created this comic from the ground up and had a beginning and an end, it’s more akin to a independent comic or a manga really.
I'm planning on working my way through this list, so thank you! I've read a lot more Marvel but I do love DC and want to read the best. The only run I think deserves to be here that I can think of is the Batgirl of Burnside run by Brenden Fletcher and Cameron Stewart, I think that's an excellent run.
Also, what about stories done by multiple writers? I haven't read it but I know a lot of people consider 52 to be a really good series from DC.

Hey, awesome vid. I think you missed adding other titles to the Byrne entry hewrote for Superman, while doing the core series, like Adventures of Superman, World of Krypton and some of his Action Comics. Also Shadow of the Bat issues to Batman section by Alan Grant.
True, but there was only so much space and I didn't want to overwhelm people with too much text. I'm working on a video focused on limited series, which will hopefully cover some of these gaps. Appreciate the feedback.

I love Morrison's and Waid's JLA series, though I have to give credit to the 2000's series from Brad Meltzer and Dwayne McDuffle as they were pretty underrated series and mediocre. I stopped reading Post-Crisis series once we got to Justice League: Rise and Fall and moved onto Darkseid War and Scott Snyder's JLA from Rebirth.
I actually love the Brad Meltzer run. Only reason they are not mentioned is because it was only a 12 issue run and not eligible here. The problem is it was followed by possibly the worst phase of the series. I also resisted the Johns’ reboot because the very idea of the New 52 pissed me off. But once I read it, I had to admit it was quite good.
Would you recommend reading the Cary Bates Superman/Action Comics stuff along with the Elliot S Maggin material? Or just read Maggin's issues?
I don’t think they have aged very well, and I’m not the biggest fan of 1970s Superman. They are not bad, they just don’t rank among the best in my opinion. But if you enjoy Bates’s Flash ou his Justice League, chances are you’ll like it.
Is the Hex series continuation of the Fleisher Jonah Hex run worth reading? Where he goes to the future after Crisis?
I read it once a long time ago and never bothered returning to it. It’s not that it’s bad, it’s that it was cancelled before a proper conclusion, I think. I certainly don’t think it’s essential reading, but if you enjoyed Fleisher’s 70s run, you’ll probably like it too.
DCeased is great but it's not finished yet. Can't wait for the final volume.
Have you read and would you recommend the rest of Dennis O'Neil's Green Lantern run post Neal Adams? Issue 90 onward?
They are not my favorite. Obviously there’s the loss of quality in the artwork, which is expected, but there’s also a return to more traditional heroics without the social commentary. Though they kept the numbering, there’s actually a gap of a few years between these issues - the series went on hiatus and the O’Neil/Adams run concluded in backup stories in the Flash series. When GL 90 came about, the moment of the original run seemed to have passed.

@@suicidalkangarooz I hope to post a Green Lantern video within the next weeks… other than the O’Neill/Adams run, and the occasional special edition, I strongly recommend the entire Geoff Johns run on the character.
@@comicbelief Oh yeah, I mean I'm planning on reading everything you've put in your 3 DC videos, probably with the individual DC characters videos too, I've already read the pre-1970 issues you've entered in your videos so far.
For Marvel I've already been going through a reading order where I'm planning on reading pretty much every main universe Marvel story. I've already gone through 1961-1972.
Hey, @Comic Belief, what made you like Waid's "Flash" run? I just finished "Born to Run" and got the omnibus, but I'm wondering if it was a mistake.
Waid updated the character, created the Speed Force, introduced characters like Impulse… not every story is a home run, but Waid created to modern Flash

@@MastermindAXL Johns is actually my favorite Flash run. I find Waid’s run very important but uneven. You might want to pick and choose what you read. My recommendations are in the Flash video. Johns’ run, on the other hand, should be read in its entirety.
@@comicbelief Wait, really??? Oh, shoot. So, you don't put your favorites in these videos?
@@MastermindAXL I do. You actually caught a very specific exception to that. I was so close to picking Jonhs’ Flash as the best one, but Waid’s run is more essential to the character and Johns was already well represented in my top ten, so I chose Waid. It’s like this: Waid will give you a better character arc, his contribution to the Flash mythos is far greater than Johns’. But Waid’s drops in quality as it goes. While Johns is a better storyteller and the artwork is more engaging. I was on the fence all the way to posting the video.
Have you read or would you recommend the original Booster Gold run? I see JLI here.
I’m not a huge fan of Dan Jurgens. I think Booster only becomes interesting when he joins the League. To me, his best solo stories come in the 52 limited series after Infinite Crisis and in his solo series right after that.
Checking in again to ask if you've read Jerry Ordway's Power of Shazam? Another run I've seen some love for online in my recent studying up on comics.
I think I’ve read scattered issues of it. I’m just not a big fan of Captain Marvel/Shazam. It always reads as a 1950s comics. To me, his best stories are Judd Winick’s Trials, the New 52 reboot by Geoff Johns, and his appearances in teams like JLA and JSA. And of course Kingdom Come.
In the 70s, as DC absorbed the character, his co-creator C. C. Beck actually fought against any attempt to update him in any way. He wanted for the stories to keep the original feel. Ordway might have been the first real attempt to change that. I just don’t recall it as very successful

Any love for Cary Bates' Captain Atom? I've seen people praise it online.
I barely remember it, to tell you the truth. When I think of the 1980s Captain Atom, I mostly think of the Justice League. But I’m bound to have read it. Best I can say is that it didn’t make an impression.
Did you miss the Steve Englehart and Archie Goodwin runs on Batman? Or the Jim Starlin Batman run? Or Morrison on Doom Patrol? Or did I miss the last one?
Morrison’s Doom Patrol is in there. On the 4:58 mark. Englehart’s and Starlin’s Batman runs were not included for being too short.
Have you read or liked any Fourth World related runs after Jack Kirby? I've started going through this list and I'm on the Cary Bates Flash run, but so far Fourth World is my favorite run so far. Are none of rubs other writers have done with those characters, like Gerry Conway, Steve Englehart, or Walt Simonson, as good?
The closest thing to a good post-Kirby New Gods run was a brief series in the 90s by John Byrne and Walt Simonson, but it didn’t last very long. The New Gods have a lot of false starts but always fail to win over readers. The best stories are limited series like Cosmic Odyssey or Tom King’s brilliant take on Mister Miracle, and the occasional guest appearance on other series, like Justice League. Of course, Darkseid is DC’s go-to cosmic menace, but to the point that he doesn’t stand out much.
@Comic Belief Yeah Tom King's Mister Miracle is a masterpiece. It's such a shame there's never been a classic ongoing after Kirby with these characters. Such a huge collection of wonderful characters and ideas that go underutilized. The DC universe would be better off having these characters playing a bigger role in it. I'd love to see more of villains like Mantis and Glorious Godfrey along with Darkseid.
@@suicidalkangarooz I agree. DC has a lot of underused characters, while the biggest get all the spotlight. But this was true about the JSA at one point, until it wasn’t. So we never know
@Comic Belief If only enough people read comics nowadays for smaller characters to have an audience. When Simon Spurrier's highly acclaimed John Constantine run couldn't survive more than 12 issues for a character that previously had a 300 year comic series, it makes me worried for characters like that. Vertigo was so good for comics.
@@suicidalkangarooz I don’t think we’ll ever see a series reach the three-digit number again. It’s just the way it is now. But things aren’t so bleak. There has been a move towards creator-owned comics that was unthinkable two decades ago. The creative force in the industry shifted to Image and smaller publishers. The characters are less iconic, they don’t invoke the same nostalgia, but it’s good to know that creators get their fair share for the works.
How did you read so many comics ? It's almost like you have read every comic ever.
Well, you start when you are ten years old and you keep going for decades. 😂 I do have some trouble spots. I don’t know manga very well, my pre-Crisis DC is very selective. But it’s not that hard. You could a short run on a weekend. I’ve been studying my Moon Knight lately and the fact is that the character doesn’t have that many stories. His video is bound to be a short one.

No way new 52 Batman is the best modern run.
I’ve used “modern” to mean 21st century. Of the last 22 years, the main contenders for best Batman run would be Morrison and Snyder. I, for one, favor the latter. Have in mind that we are discussing long runs. Miller was fundamental to the character but never had a run. The same can be said about Azzarello and others.
@@comicbelief I was thinking Morrison. The New 52 ( with a few exceptions) was a blight on humanity, in my opinion.
@@jerryjohnso8674 There are two and only two redeemable things in the New 52. Snyder’s Batman and Azzarello’s Wonder Woman. I thought you meant Morrison’s run. The guy can be a genius, but to me his Batman was a mixed bag. I love the early stuff, love Grayson’s Batman. But R.I.P., and the return, not so much. Anyway, different strokes, I guess. May the great debate continue. 🙂
