  • Pekka Hautamäki is a professional handcrafter who is specialiced in piilu hewing. This type of hewing is a very old method to improve the moisture resistance of wooden log. In this video he tells how to use broad axe in this work and which kind of axe is needed for best result.

    Jotakin noista piilu kirveistä kuitenkin unohtui sanoa. Toista nurkkaahan ei tuolla mallilla voi veistää, mikäli vartta ei saa käännettyä toisinpäin.

      Pitää osata veistää molemmilta käsiltä. Ei vartta tarvitse vaihdella mihinkään.

      +john holmes Hi John and thank you for your question. What mr. Hautamäki is doing here is an old way to tread wooden surface. It is a bit difficult to compare planeing machine and piilu-hewing. But if we wait a hundred years we know the difference. In this picture there's a wall that was made with an axe in 1902.
