  • The True Story of ‘Shady Bag Bill’ (Words & Music by Charles R. Gray)
Well, Upstate New York is where I cut my teeth
In the Adirondacks tween the dogwood trees and creeks
And goddamn I tell we had
Some of the finest weed in the land
I still remember it all to this day
Like an old film through a smokey haze
So let me take you back, to this one time
When things were running low, you know, pretty dam dry
It was a hot and sticky Saturday
Deep into the summer of ’89
Yeah, my normal guy was high and dry
So I asked my friend if he’d take a ride
    For me
Well, he came back with a sack that was pretty fucking slim
And I asked what the hell is that, you know more than a pinch is a sin
He said I don’t what to tell ya man
    That’s all the motherfucker had
I said, I don’t know what the fuck man
But that’s the shadiest bag I ever done had
I was standing there with Chris, Tracy, and Jim
Thinking to myself that this was all way too grim
And then it dawned on me
    That I just
    Bought
    The shadiest
    Bag
    In history
Now I didn’t say this before, but I will say it now
The fella that got me that shady bag, his name was Bill
And right there and then I looked at him and said man
    That’s your new name
It’s been around 30 years since then
But to this day even still
    Everyone knows
    Shady Bag Bill
    Oh Shady Bag
    I hope you’re doing well
    Shady Bag
    Only time will tell
    Shady Bag
    Shady Bag
    Shady Bag Bill
Now I don’t tell this story out of anger or spite
Cause we all ate some blotter and later on that night
We kicked back some brewskis and even found
    Some hash
I still remember it all to this day
Like an old film through a smokey haze
And there’s so much more to tell about those days back then
Like the infamous porno tape of Julie and ahem (cough)
Or the time I got arrested crossing back in
From snowy weeknight party with a bunch of Canadians
But that shady bag still holds a spot
    Somewhere close to the top
    Of all of them
Yeah, I was standing there with Fur, Tracy, and Jim
Thinking to myself that this was all too grim
And then it dawned on me
    That I just
    Bought
    The shadiest
    Bag
    In history
It’s been around 30 years since then
But to this day even still
    Everyone knows
    Shady Bag Bill
    Oh Shady Bag
    I hope you’re doing well
    Shady Bag
    Only time will tell
    Shady Bag
    Shady Bag
    Shady Bag Bill
