Smaller the area for supplementary feeding the more stress on stock especially for ones that are younger and new.

One thing that might be beneficial to make your new feed trough more sturdy to withstand the bison's rough and tumble ways is to put some 2×4 "x" braces from the top of one leg down to the bottom of the other and vice versa. That's if they seem determined to tear it up. This is not a criticism, you did a great job. It's an idea how to make it really tough to tear up. Those beast can tear up virtually anything they set their minds to.

Yes, I noticed that you only had one bolt holding the four by four in place. It is correct to have braces on the the four by fours all the way around for added strength. Minimum two screws each end for each brace. Coating it with linseed oil will make last longer. That treated wook lasts forever. I built a heavy duty picnic out of treated 2"X 6" pine 20 years ago and it's still standing after all these years. I bolted the legs and use screws on the top. Very duable. Just brace it up and it'll be fine. Drilling a pilot hole each time might make it easier. Make sure the drill bit is smaller than the screw. Do you think Bison eat Alfalfa? I know horses love it. Just thought I'd ask. Always good to see you and the Bison out and about. A true bison farmer you are. Do they require salt and vitamin blocks? Till next time.

I thought it was an excellent feeder!
The cockleburrs are a real pain. I don't know about large animals but the stickers in smaller animals can get stuck in their throat which sometimes block their food or the food can push the burr on down to the animals lung and cause a really big probem. Spraying the burrs DO NOT work for me. I have a burner that runs on propane (Harbor Freight) and I burn them up and then rake and shovel the dirt. Goathead stickers are just as bad. Just an FYI
