How many unique patterns does it have? I say "patterns" instead of "states" because the particular colors do not matter.

I has 4 patterns for permutation, (solved, one move away, two moves away and diagonal swap) and i believe 6 patterns of "rings" orientation, so I believe there are 24 patterns total

Yes but never really got to designing it. Pieces in the middle would be cubes probably
