    On the hex having the two middle motors failing also results in a crash! That's because you then have 2 CW on the left and 2 CCW on the right. The momentum-eqation doesn't fit anymore...

    Yeah, I agree that hex is more reliable due to the redundant motors, which is important thing for long range. However, if the reliability is the selling point, then the VTX, RC links better be more reliable with diversity antennas. Additionally, I doubt how well betaflight can handle motor failure in the middle of flight.

  • @daveopie1234
    @daveopie1234 3 года назад

    I would very much like to see a video of this drone flying on 5 motors. I'm sure thrust, pitch, and roll will be OK, but how well can it yaw? With only 2 remaining motors spinning in the same direction as the dead motor, separated by 120 degrees, can it yaw smoothly in both directions? This would decide if, upon motor failure, the pilot would have to land (which at least he/she could do safely) or is able to yaw towards home and fly back to the launch spot.

  • @sganzerlag
    @sganzerlag 3 года назад

    Dave, I think the hex will be capable of flight if one motor fails. BF should be able to handle that. However, I also believe that it will lose the ability to yaw left and right. When one motor fails, BF will essentially power down the reciprocal motor. Then the four remaining motors will be in a configuration such that yaw control will be very marginal or nonexistent. Basically, you will be able to descend for a soft and vertical landing, but with no ability to yaw left or right.

    • @PropsOutProductions
      @PropsOutProductions 3 года назад

      What would stop it from just behaving like a quadcopter after powering down the second motor?

      Which makes sense, but would if it would be possible for BF to recognize that one motor's down and power down the other, wouldn't it also be possible to reverse the directions of certain motors to emulate a quadcopter? Or would that be too dependent on which ESC/ESC firmware is being used?

      I see this. "Diatone Mamba 2204 1450kv motor" and "HYPERLITE 2204-1722KV HV EDITION" at Pyrodrone.
      wouldn't a 6s lith-Ion spend most of its time around 4s Lipo voltages?
      16.8-14v for 4s Lipo.
      26.2 -15v for 6s Lith-Ion
      Use betaflight Power limit to get the KV you want... for when voltage is above ~17v
      that and 6s would help with amp draw which the Lith Ion doesn't like?
