Haha the clip of you riding it barely put all back together really captures that excitement of a project build. Sounds good! I had a cb550 four, was such a fun fast bike.. some reason I sold it then last year got the itch again, ended up picking up a brutally neglected cb350 twin. Been one hell of a project but finally getting it to a pretty good place. Your vids really capture that process. No sound quite like vintage Honda’s.. Keep up the good work!
The Honda CB500/4 was a weapon mate. I owned a 1973 model back in the 70's and I could get a top speed of 200 KPH from it and it handled like a dream. Sadly I got wiped out by a car trying to overtake a truck without looking first,Kind of screwed my life from there onwards but I loved that bike.BTW I still ride today.
I had a Honda CB550-4 when I was in high school , love it. I actually put a dirt bike tire on the rear and rip the trails and every back road I could find. I also road it to the senior prom party when I was a sophomore.. it was legendary.
9:52 " AND WHO DOES LIKE EXTRA POWER RIGHT!?" god I laughed so hard hahaha, love your content mason I got high expectations for a sweet cafe racer rebuild of this cb500 they have gorgeous lines and a frame just for that
Hey man, I really like the videos. You’re one of the RUclipsrs that I watch that inspired me to start making my own videos. I thought that you had to be super experienced to make videos that people watch but you’re learning stuff ass you go probably just like a lot of your viewers and it’s just super cool
Great vids by the way. These pre 80's Hondas are going up in price starting with the CB350 twin, then 350 four, then 500 series, then the 750 , top price the Ko sandcast CB750 . In Australia the one you picked up for $350 in same condition would sell for about USD3K +, so great deal. The CB750 K1 to K6 around USD10K plus with the Sand cast (some people call them KO but not entirely true) are going for over USD 20 - 30K. I recommend everyone to keep your 70's Hondas, great investment - and don't modify them drastically - a little OK. With all the trouble pulling and working on carbs, why didn't you just get new float bowl gaskets while you were shopping for jets- small price... and yes, Ebay have sets of vacuum gauges cheap- good workshop tool. Anything with two or more carbs need the flaps adjusted by Vacuum gauge to make sure they are all sucking in same air. On Honda multi carbs really easy to connect, adjust ...While you have them off also connect throttle cable and sight the slides and make sure they are all relatively close to each other - adjust if required. Last thing- agree with other post, always change the timing chain if you don't know the service history- just like a car. If they break , well, good by top end. Cheers and keep up the good vids...
Great videos by the way. I've been working on a 1980 gs550e Suzuki. I can't seem to get the carburetors in sync. It's all stock. When I cleaned them I messed with the butterfly's and fuel screw, how many turns out should I be at?now I can't seem to get it synced correctly. Was wondering if I should go to airpod, if I do, what size jet should I use.
I hate to mention it.... but I think your float bowls are on wrong. The left two should be on the right and vice-versa. The drain screws should face out, not in. But I guess you'll start the next video taking the carbs off anyway, as is tradition. :)
Could you PLEASE help me find a great deal like you always seem to do lol. You inspire me to want to do this, except I don't have the knowledge to do it lol.
I bought a 75 cb750 for $100 (not running) but if you have some mechanical inclination and a manual you should be able to fix one of these old cb's for cheap. Obviously the more you look into things the more money you'll spend. I have at least $1500 into my $100 cb750.
You STILL didn't seat the carburetors all the way on to the intake boots. And 130 main jets are not 3 sizes larger. They go in increments of 5 so you have gone 6 sizes
I get you're just going for a short ride, but please, put some gloves on. Really distracts from the video wondering if the next shot is of you degloved. :(
GoldGuy Nah. Just saying term is wayyyy over used. Working in a car rest I shop myself A restoration is technically returning back to original condition and removing and renewing every single component and every nut and bolt. This word gets thrown around so much online I am not dogging you one bit. Enjoy every video. Just saying for guys that don’t know the real term of a restoration
Carbs need to be sync'd, adjust the valves and points, and you'll pick up the top end. Good job so far. Keep it up :-}
Go with 115/120 main jets (130 is too big), adjust the valves and sync the carbs and you'll gain more top end. Love your vids btw
Great to see a bike like the ones I rode in the 70s and early 80s.

That’s sweet with the original pipes. I had one of these in 1972 after I came home from the service

I learned motorcycle repair and maintenance basics here. Thanks for such great content
check out classic octane if you want to see how things are superposed to be done
or johnnysvintagemotorcycle
It's fascinating to know that there are so many different itty bitty parts to make something run.
Please don’t paint this one. The patina looks nice on camera at least. Just do a big detail job
I like how the sticky tachometer needle is slowly freeing up as you ride XD
I've would have cleaned out the emulsion tubes and set the float level while doing the carbs. Cool video
john914 I second this
@@nickmattbrewcrew Personally id put a new gasket on the float bowl too
Maybe pick some belly button lint and chew off an old fingernail or something

This honda CB500 restoration is quite good.I also restore a little newer bike Suzuki GSXR 1000 K1.

Those pipes sound great nice job pal
I just picked me up a 1982 Suzuki gs1100g bike has so much power, runs just need cosmetic work
You gotta check the valves and points. Also, like other people have said, just detail it really well. Don't respray the tank etc.
the fuel up sound 😂😂
If your interested. I put some universal c channel crime trim on my Cb550four over the weld seam under the gas tank. Maybe you could use the trick
Aren't the drain plugs supposed to point outwards, so you can reach them?
Just got my kx125, im so excited
Amazing job! Keep it up! The bike is a beauty😍

It's a keeper😁😁👍👍
Sounds great
can you shim the stock needles in those old plunger style carbs? that would help too. Happy to see you being able to ride it.
Update on the NA/T subie?

WHO DOESNT LOVE EXTRA POWER hahahaha
What year is the bike?
Needs a 4into1 painted in heat proof red
Could you PLEASE help me find a great deal like you always seem to do lol. You inspire me to want to do this, except I don't have the knowledge to do it lol.
You build knowledge while doing it
Keep an eye on facebook market place, there are some smokin deals on there. Good luck and happy hunting!

You need a buell
They are fun
Pretty cool, there is another guy that has some awesome build videos on old bikes kentuckyyankee does anyone watch that guy?
Have you done an oil and filter change yet?..strip and rebuild brakes with fresh fluid too..cover the basics and PLEASE wear gloves.
GoldGuy knows what he's doing, bro.
Lacking in top end power? Wut?? You used 1/3 of the tach... Concentrate.
Forget the electrics and put an m.unit blue motogadget computer in there.
Why tease us with the video and then make us wait to watch it
It's called a premiere! I'm trying to build hype for my new video
