Great video, enjoyable as usual!! 👍🏻 Great idea to put the snubber bridle at the end of the bowsprit, never thought about it but it makes total sense! How do you like it? Might have to change my set up now 😇
This is a tired and true way to secure the snubbers. I got the Idea from the Pardey's. Bowsprits can fail but usually its from impact or from rot/lack of maintenance . If you trust your sprit enough to keep the rig up then you should be more than trusting of it for a snubber. It should be noted this setup actually consists of three points of stopping the chain. The main 1/2'' 12' three stand snubber connects to the kranze iron, a second short 2' 1/2'' three stand snubber connected to the sampson post with a chain hook, then the tooth lock built into the muir windlass. During hurricanes/tropical storms we deploy a 35' 5/8'' three stand storm snubber to the main kranze connection. During the last tropical storm loads stayed low, boat held strait due to the center pull line and this setup has no chafe problems, ever. It also Reduces bucking as the connection to the boat is at the end of a large lever arm. Of corse use what ever system you feel comfortable with.
@@SailingVesselPrism I just finished fixing our bowsprit (thank god I did, I have some gnarly pics of before and after) so I feel pretty confident on it being up to par! I’m going to give it a try altough would love to see more pics?! Maybe you guys can do a small 5 minute video (that will take you 20 hours to film and process 🤯) but it would be pretty interesting……or maybe you could do a write up……or you could do nothing 😅 I’m sure there’s plenty of info on it out there!! Either way, thanks for this video 👍🏻🍻
Looking at Steve's review the Viking 10 is the best in that specific substrate - i.e. software mud holding and veer it's the best. And is pretty good for most others. In my mind the actual vessel the anchor is holding must play a role in the anchor's performance. However Steve's tests are by far the most comprehensive I've seen.
Just out of curiosity what do you have against Ronka/Manson/Mantis style anchors? Practical Sail have done anchor testing in Monterey CA and in the Chesapeake. In both location the Ronka/Manson/Mantis have out performed others. If I remember right Danforth got 3rd or 2nd. Even Steve likes Ronka/Manson/Mantis style. I understand you want to keep the anchor on the bowsprit which is coinvent for changing anchorage often. But for those days come up with a jury rig to make it work for the day and when you make passages put it down below. I've been told by finding a storing your anchor central in the boat will reduce rocking motion. But I haven't been in a situation to confirm that it's worth the effort. The Mantis is really the top dog in below deck storage.
I noticed you are not using the Mantus Swivel. was that to make anchor swap easy or have you changed your mind on getting it. I've been on the fence about swivels for a few years now but that was the one I liked. On a side note I too went threw a SS stage. I think everyone does at a some point. It's just so damn sexy looking.
We have moved on to a fatty knees 8. We don't have a video on it but the procedure is the same. We lift it with the job halyard, lay it down on the fordeck then we spin it upsidedown with Shannon lifting the front and Jon lifting the back.
A goodbye and a big thank you to our followers beeing a part of our journey wold have been nice. To many RUclips channels just stop like this. I think I is rude. We as creators have a responsibility to our audience. A thank you and goodbye is a minimum, or we take a brake and leave the channel open because we might be back sometime when life allow us. Love the rigorous test and very detailed discussion. Would like more like this!
Miss this HC sailing. These boats are magnificent. Cheerio!

I was thinking snubber on the end of the bowsprit is a bad idea. Boats have had their bowsprits ripped off in bad weather.

Good your guys being back :) you made a whole video over the Mantus Anchor Swivel ? Left it behind ??

Do you still use the Walker bay 8 as a tender? Do you have a video showing how you recover it back on to Prism?

Long time, no hear. Hope you guys are okay.
Also, I’m in the market for a new chain, where did you guys end up getting yours? 🤯

Wonder whatever happened to their boat
Still got it! currently in Trinidad.
sarca excel definitely
Im not a fan of plow anchors in mud, they plow through the mud like its pulled by a tractor.
try a bruce!
