I’ve spent my whole life trying to find meaning in a world that some times seemed completely bereft of it. In my journey, I happened upon a number of Chardin’s writings, and they were a revelation. One of my criticisms of communities of faith is that they discourage humans from using their, let’s say God-given, powers of perception and reflection to make sense of a world where we’re born only to die. This man made a valiant effort to do just that. And in many ways, I believe he succeeded. Sadly, the church attacks him here and had attacked him throughout his life. And they did so in a way that was antithetical to Christ’s teachings. I’d recommend anyone reading this to read Chardin’s writings, they are truly inspiring and may well help you to find the deeper purposes of our lives.

Pierre Teilhard de Chardin SJ (1 May 1881 - 10 April 1955) was a French idealist philosopher and Jesuit priest who trained as a paleontologist and geologist and took part in the discovery of Peking Man. He conceived the vitalist idea of the Omega Point (a maximum level of complexity and consciousness towards which he believed the universe was evolving), and he developed Vladimir Vernadsky's concept of noosphere. Although a monitum was issued in regard to some of Teilhard's ideas, he has been posthumously praised by Pope Benedict XVI and other eminent Catholic figures, and his theological teachings were cited by Pope Francis in the 2015 encyclical, Laudato si'. The response to his writings by evolutionary biologists has been, with some exceptions, decidedly negative, although recently some have written more positively about Teilhard's ideas.
Well, evolutionary biologists focus on science, so they have not much to say about Christ as the Omega Point. As a priest and a scientist, Teilhard had a lot to say.
Anyone who thinks Teilhard was possessed by an evil spirit, has really not read his words, nor understood his project, nor contemplated its actual meaning. He did not profess, nor was he 'obsessed' with evolutionism. To assert that he wanted a 'pantheistic God' that was just part of creation, is utter falsity and lie. He distinguished his thought from pantheism and other forms of monism at _every_ stage. He constantly spoke about God as the transcendental end towards which everything in creation is tending (he called this Omega, in reference to Christ's words: I am the Alpha and Omega, the beginning and end of all that exists). But while God is the _goal_ of the series, He also absolutely _transcends_ the series. Thus we are confronted with a mystery of a material creation that depends on the Creator for its divinization (theosis) at every point, _and yet_ it is called to act and suffer to that end. Everything is drawing closer to the personal center of the Universe _which is Christ Himself._ We Christians experience that most fully when we understand ourselves as "persons in Christ." For Teilhard, the universe 'evolves' in this direction of personhood, reflection, human coreflection, greater levels of union that all point toward and culminate in Christ. Just take a moment and marvel at how many aspects of the universe (physics, chemistry, biology, thought, etc.) are encompassed and centralized and synthesized just in our own person! Christ's person is the greatest encompassment of every level of reality, hence the 'goal' of evolution, even though at the same time _only Christ can give Himself._ But we already have this gift! We are already members of the mystical Body who are called to collaborate, work with other human beings, above all, _love,_ in order to grow the mystical body to include everyone and everything, to advance this work of centralization and personalization in Christ. It is the Christian journey of love and sacrifice for all, and we are to use "all our heart, all our mind, all our soul, and all our strength" to love--in other words, _every_ dimension of who we are, because God wishes to be known, loved, and felt in all. Teilhard's theology is about how everything in the world is moving toward that point where God will be "all in all," and how we participate in that movement through our energetic activity, our love, and our suffering diminishments (e.g. illness, death). But he did not mean that the world 'evolves' into God or the world 'becomes God' somehow. On the contrary: the decisive moment is when the world turns-around or turns-inward, indeed _dies;_ when it becomes something totally other (new heaven and new earth). The idea is just like how it is in our individual lives. We have to pray, fast, do works of mercy, etc., in order to be ready or _capable_ of receiving grace, but none of our efforts produce grace--it is always God's initiative. Well, so too is the entire universe in a process of evolving toward the right _conditions_ under which Christ may manifest himself and the divine transfiguration take place. It took billions of years for earth, life on earth, and humanity to evolve to such a point that conditions were ripe (but not 'sufficient') for Christ to be born, be heard, understood, and followed by at least a few. We have Him and the Eucharist as the pledge that _matter_ and _spirit_ can be united into one--and already are united (see also the Transfiguration, hypostatic union, etc.). This is a mysterious union no doubt, effected entirely by God, but nonetheless one where it is _on earth as it is in heaven_ and increasingly so since Christ. We are called to participate in this, called to communion in Christ through works of love as the highest reality. Teilhard's vision is perhaps best understood as taking that line of the Lord's prayer seriously as _what God is doing:_ he wants God to be on earth as he is in heaven. It is a matter of aspiring for the union of God and Man to become total and spread out over the whole cosmos, so that it is "not I who live, but Christ who lives in me." That is the gift we receive at the altar each day, and our Eucharistic gift is meant to spread out and "eucharistize" the whole world! Quidquid patimur, Christus agit Quidquid agimus, Christus agitur --Teilhard de Chardin Anyhow, please go read _The Divine Milieu._ Read it closely and meditate on it. I think you will find on every page the highest Christic inspiration. I assure you, you'll find no dark spirits, but a very reasoned and impassioned plea for how Christianity can _combat_ the ideologies of materialism, utopianism, evolutionism, and so on. Seriously folks! You are lambasting a guy whose express mission was to prove that Christianity is still the _best option_ out there, despite all the advances in science and technology and so on. He is a Catholic priest! He's on your side! At the very least, stop turning someone you don't understand into your enemy, or you are seriously risking the sin of bearing false witness. If the Church continues to operate in this spirit of refusal to understand anything except hagiographical pap, it will continue to dwindle in numbers and atrophy in spiritual force. I suggest _The Religion of Teilhard de Chardin_ by Henri de Lubac for the real story.
Pax vobiscum to you all. Does anyone know the name of this priest? What order? Or Diocese?. I would like to know who his Bishop is. The reasons for wanting to know are as follows. This homily seems to be heavy on bitter anger, light on actual understanding of the content of Chardin's writings. Just one small example among many: the assertion that Teilhard was a pantheist. This is just absurd. If the speaker can make such a big error in something so basic, it rather casts doubt on the veracity of the rest of this "homily"/ rant. Indeed, he ascribes to Chardin many of the things we would rightly find appalling when he never espoused such things. It feels like a gross, unfair distortion of this Catholic mystic. This either comes from ignorance of the subject matter, or just good old blind prejudice in an attempt to make the facts fit his own agenda. The speaker should remember what the great St Francis De Sales said: " one can catch more flies with honey than with vinegar." Unless he too is deemed by the speaker to be worthy of hell as he does with Chardin? There is little of the love of Christ here, and much of the resonance of the Evil One. Lumen Christi vobiscum semper!
Thank you Father-I had no idea what an odd Duck de Chardin was. It certainly sounds like he was in contact with something from the nether regions! How could a Jesuit priest have embraced such a dangerous belief ? I fully agree-the biggest danger we as Americans and Catholics face, is the inability of the government to speak the truth!
Honestly, his speech makes me want to learn more about Chardin. I do not like the ideas of the man speaking. If he is so against Chardin, I would like to hear more from the other side.
The demonic always comes with a warning label. It's always there. He could not even bring itself to name it. G-Town holds this possessed man up as a Saint.

"Evolutionism" you would have been a great asset to the inquisition. Denying fact, reason and science doesn't strengthen your case it exposes it. God is truth, opposition of truth is true blasphemy. I'll pray for you and your followers. Praise God.
This priest has some good points, but he’s lost and indoctrinated on gods mercy and justice. Clearly driven by a fiery whip of fear wielded by his own hand. Poor man. Of course there are those in heaven outside the church, a good god would not damn generations of men just because they didn’t conform to the Catholic interpretation of truth. How sad to worship such a vengeful spirit so joyfully.
I read de Chardin for decades. All I remember is the Omega Point for confusing humanity; It's all is quite forgettable, not even good fiction. Globalism before climate change.
Using Falsehoods about Father Teilhard doesn't help the arguments in this video. The good part of this sermon is that indeed Teilhard can be a dangerous influence to those who have an immature spirituality or are intellectually not up to the task of reading his sometimes difficult language and concepts. Of course, even Holy Mary, Mother of God can be misused by haters of Christianity. And even self-declared Christians have misused other mystics, even John of the Cross. I wonder what the motivation was for this video. Is this just another ideological-based mouthpiece ranting to his disciples to get them worked up? If so, this video is a complete success, as Teilhard is the perfect straw-man for demi-gods of the right and provides some low-hanging fruit for such a garbled lecturer.
Antonio....you're talking nonsense. God is ALL POWERFUL. By the power of His will He can do anything. He does not need tools or props or some kind of ridiculous theories to create anything. You clearly do not understand the concept of GOD. From Him all things have come. He needs nothing or noone. Do you seriously believe that God needed the process of evolution to create all of creation???? That's not only dumb, it's grossly illogical too. So...where did this evolution thing come from? Did God create it? Has it always existed? Clearly it has not because science has already proved that the universe is not eternal and that there was a moment when it came into being. When this happened, 3 things came into being. I bet you have no idea what they are. TIME. SPACE. MATTER. If God can create these things in and instant....what need has He of a theory so idiotic as evolution to create all else after creating the universe. Think about it more logically and you'll see you're wrong. God bless.
@@alann7077 Hi. Thanks for your answer. Evolution is not a theory, it is a proven FACT. So the the question is how can you close your eyes to God's creation and deny it? By that token you can say the Earth is FLAT and why should I need to calculate it's radius? Denying evolution is denying God and His work. Why do you need to deny it? This is the illogical action my friend. If you close your eyes to reality and deny science showing God's actions but you do that defending God, then you are totally illogical, my friend. The Catholic Church has accepted evolution long time ago. The Bible is NOT a literal book, we know that for sure. Again, closing your eyes to Evolution is closing your eyes to God. Why?
@@alann7077 Yes, God is infinitely powerful, so God can create the universe in ANY WAY GOD WANTS. It is OBVIOUS that evolution is a FACT. The question is how can anybody, who says he/she believes in God, not believe in God's creation?
@@antoniomolina3867 there isn't a single piece of scientific evidence which proves without doubt that evolution is a FACT. Evolution is nothing more than a bunch of assumptions which have no basis in fact. That is not science...that is guess work. Let's for a moment jump to the time when there was just one form of living organism. Today we have countless forms and species and...many kinds. Where did they all come from? Let's assume for the sake of discussion that the first organism was an ant. Where pray tell did an elephant come from??? Not to mention you and I. Evolution is all about MUTATION. No more than that. The finches on the Galapagos islands proved that. In the end what we had were...FINCHES (bird kind). Evolution has no answer to all the different KINDS of organisms in existence. Out of one kind of animal, only the SAME kind can come from. You agree right? What the Church might have accepted in terms of evolution is light years away from the garbage that comes from Richard Dawkins and his ilk. His GD book is worthy of being burnt in a bonfire. Yet even he admitted publically in an interview..and not just once..that he cannot prove God's non-existence. Yet every time he opens his mouth he speaks as though he can and has. He compares the uncreated and True God to created idols of various cultures throughout history, such as thor, etc. If he had HARD EVIDENCE that evolution was a FACT...he would have no need to try to convert people to his own religion...atheism....the BELIEF that there is no God. As for the Bible...science has proved its accuracy. The Writing of the Bible is not man's work. The Bible isn't even a BOOK. The Bible is in fact a library of 73 books written over a period of centuries by way of God choosing and inspiring individuals to write HIS WORD. When it is properly read, we can see that how well connected are texts which have been written many decades apart by people far apart from each other. So to return to evolution... If life began with one exceedingly simple organism...how did you and I come about?! After all changes of KIND are impossible; dogs create dogs..cats cats...etc. God bless
@@alann7077 Hi. You make it very easy for me to respond to your long message. In Google, there are right now 1.18 billion documents on evolution. Since you say there is NO SCIENTIFIC FACT WHATSOEVER, I assume you have read, studied, debated, and proved wrong all those docs and opinions in favor, and also proved right all those (like yours) against it. I do envy your capacity to study 1.18 billion docs so you can make affirmations that clear :-) I have selected just ONE of those docs: www.scientificamerican.com/article/15-answers-to-creationist/ Please be so kind as to scientifically demonstrate that it is wrong. I won't use derogatory words (like GARBAGE) towards your opinion but if you are unable to prove this single example wrong, I will need to conclude that you simply don't want to use your brain (given to you by God through EVOLUTION). So you are negating God. I am a Christian and a man of science (yes, both) so I am not interested in bad language. Please, show me the scientific arguments AGAINST this simple (very simple) document. I would be hugely disappointed if you are unable to do it. So go ahead, PROVE IT FALSE. Otherwise, I will think you are just about noise and not a seeker of Truth, and God, to me, is NOT noise. I am waiting...
I do not see the relevance of comparing a saint with a great philosopher/scientist of the calibre of Theilard. Evolution is a fact And Chardin succeeded in reconciling faith in God, specifically Christ, and science, FUNDAMENTALISTS, wake up and smell the coffee.
Evolution is a FACT, proven, tested, corroborated, etc. It is right here. If you believe God is the Creator, then you need to accept His creation. Denying evolution is like denying gravity. What Teilhard tried to do is to RECONCILE evolution into Christianity. What he said is that evolution shows a TEMPORARY PATHWAY WHERE ALL THINGS TEND TO CHRIST, and he called that final destination THE OMEGA POINT. You can quote the Bible back and forth, and I can do the same, but that doesn't change the fact that GRAVITY EXISTS, AS EVOLUTION EXISTS. Now, the question is WHAT DO YOU DO WITH THIS REALITY GOD GAVE US? DENY IT?
I can understand a Catholic reconciliation with evolution but to pin scientific theories as fact gives way too much credit to human beings who open science up to revision all the time if evidence, or predominant biases, support it. Gravity is a law of nature, created by God and demonstrated by our direct human experience. Macro evolution is a theory (perhaps well supported, but not concrete) and it is not relatable to our direct human experience. Whales don't turn into cows in our lifetime so we rely on scientific interpretation of geology and even the fossil record is debated by scientists constantly. To equate a theory like evolution to a physical law like gravity is not scientific and to ground one's faith in such a misunderstanding is problematic.
@@user-gs4oi1fm4l With all due respect, you do not understand how evolution works. No, whales won't become cows BECAUSE THEY ARE TWO DIFFERENT SPECIES EVOLVING IN PARALLEL AND FOLLOWING TWO DIFFERENT EVOLUTIONARY PATHWAYS. Please, read and educate yourself, read about both genetic diversity and NATURAL SELECTION (this last part anti-evolutionists always forget). So, in, say, five hundred million years, whales will have evolved to something and cows to something different. Of course there are details we still need to study about evolution, as it happens with gravity too, but I don't see you jumping off a window yelling gravity is just a theory. People deny evolution because they want to interpret the Bible literally, which then brings them to a dead end. Evolution not only is real, it is so real that YOU have it written IN YOUR DNA, Sequence it and compare it with the DNA of the rest of living beings (with an already sequenced genome, of course), and IMMEDIATELY, you will have THE EVOLUTIONARY TREE OF LIFE ON EARTH. To me, the genius of Teilhard is to conceptualize evolution as a cosmic approach to the Omega point, which is Christ. From a Catholic perspective, that (to me) reconciles God with Man and Nature (or Cosmos).
@@user-gs4oi1fm4l Hi. Perhaps I didn't, in that case, I do apologize. But you said To equate a theory like evolution to a physical law like gravity is not scientific and to ground one's faith in such a misunderstanding is problematic." And I disagree. You see the effects of gravity immediately, yes, but you also see the effects of evolution immediately, in you, plants, bacteria, etc. There are aspects of gravity we still have to figure out, for example, we have been taught it is a force, but modern physics says it is NOT a force, etc. My only point is that Teilhard was the first one reconciling evolution and God.

Quidquid patimur, Christus agit
Quidquid agimus, Christus agitur
--Teilhard de Chardin
Anyhow, please go read _The Divine Milieu._ Read it closely and meditate on it.

Everybody is always somebody’s heretic.
Mass Media Versus the Mass!
O boy , that Barron is many times on the error side, let’s pray for that misled soul
Thank you Father-I had no idea what an odd Duck de Chardin was. It certainly sounds like he was in contact with something from the nether regions! How could a Jesuit priest have embraced such a dangerous belief ? I fully agree-the biggest danger we as Americans and Catholics face, is the inability of the government to speak the truth!
there's 2 types of people who disagree with teilhard; people who haven't read Teilhard and people who haven't understood Teilhard.
dont@me
oh! boy! mouthful of truth there! there's one truth all the rest is lies!
Can’t believe pope Benedict XVI is somehow influenced by Chardin.
How so?
Why you are crating division in our beloved Church, Chardin was a true priest and guardian of the sacraments and spoke with the truth.
Honestly, his speech makes me want to learn more about Chardin. I do not like the ideas of the man speaking. If he is so against Chardin, I would like to hear more from the other side.
Chardin's ideas were revolutionary. Look up Richard Rohr, he's a great admirer of him.
Theilard was a great mind
A bigot for speaking truth?! That word is thrown around quite easily now.
The demonic always comes with a warning label. It's always there.
He could not even bring itself to name it.
G-Town holds this possessed man up as a Saint.
Teilhard de Chardin was a Doody-Head.
That's priceless.
Teilhard de Chardin was the greatest mind in the recent centuries of Catholicism.
Praise father Chardin!
You keep praising "the thing" and you'll soon be joining it...down below.
May God above have mercy on you and give you Grace to see how wrong you are..before it's too late.
Your a Doody head!
Is Mammon, the Spirit of the World, the name of a demon: and is this the demon that possesed Chardin?
"Evolutionism" you would have been a great asset to the inquisition. Denying fact, reason and science doesn't strengthen your case it exposes it. God is truth, opposition of truth is true blasphemy. I'll pray for you and your followers. Praise God.
Only a nutcase would expect to hear truth on You Tube💡😂
This priest has some good points, but he’s lost and indoctrinated on gods mercy and justice. Clearly driven by a fiery whip of fear wielded by his own hand. Poor man. Of course there are those in heaven outside the church, a good god would not damn generations of men just because they didn’t conform to the Catholic interpretation of truth. How sad to worship such a vengeful spirit so joyfully.
Teihard de Chardin is awsome...the substance of the universe is love....
Fr. Richard Rohr is good too..
I read de Chardin for decades. All I remember is the Omega Point for confusing humanity;
It's all is quite forgettable, not even good fiction. Globalism before climate change.
Hahahaha...unfair....
What makes him such a "low hanging fruit" I wonder.
You are so high and mighty, no wonder Satan has you by the Balls!!!!!!!!!!!!
By the way Teilhard is retarded compared to the brilliant Writings of pre conciliar church.
Evolution is a FACT, and if you believe God created this universe, then it was through evolution. By denying evolution, your are DENYING GOD.
I do envy your capacity to study 1.18 billion docs so you can make affirmations that clear :-)
I have selected just ONE of those docs:
www.scientificamerican.com/article/15-answers-to-creationist/
Please be so kind as to scientifically demonstrate that it is wrong.
He was every bit as poor of a theologian as he was a poor naturalist
I do not see the relevance of comparing a saint with a great philosopher/scientist of the calibre of Theilard. Evolution is a fact And Chardin succeeded in reconciling faith in God, specifically Christ, and science, FUNDAMENTALISTS, wake up and smell the coffee.
evolution is a theory....
Hey genius, evolution is not a fact! Chardin was diabolically possessed. Read his letters to his sister. You are a moron!
I read chard 40 yrs ago and thought him a wack-job, and I still do!
DENY IT?
Ok Boomer.
@@antoniomolina3867 I don't think you understood what I was getting at with my comment
Chardin was right a lot of things like Christians and Muslims they've got same GOD they do no doubt about it.
