DANCE TO SOLOS AND MATCHING THEM
In order for the dancers to be musical (express with their dance what the music tells them) in a solo (in which, in principle, the dancers will not know what will be played), different facts must be given such as, at least:
1- the musician playing the solo must use the swing language and coherence (evolution of tensions, patterns, closure of phrases...)
2- dancers must know and be used to the specific language of swing
3- dancers must be in tune with the music that is playing
4- dancers must translate, instantly, with some anticipation, coordinated with the partner and with grace what they think will happen in the music, based on what the musician's solo and the accompaniment that sustains it coherently proposes to them .
These factors are present in this video and the result is as if the dancers knew the solo beforehand, had prepared a choreography for it and were now playing it for us.
How good the band (Swing Shot Sextet) is, the soloist (Samuel Marthe) and Bianca Locatelli and Nils Andrén!
